Village People:

Rexlin binds his wounds and breaks the tribal spears across his good knee. 'Gin' Van de Poel drags the three bodies into the bush and covers them under loose branches. He pockets the large conch into his duffel bag and adds the long thin mollusc necklace to his collection of wearable trinkets. Holden takes up smoking and pouches the tobacco and pipe. Siggard sits Face down on a nearby stone and lays out for him some powder and pistol shot, going through some slow repetitive motions and words. Face eager to please in the hope of a banana reward (though not of the jellified hag type), patiently sits and chatters accordingly. He dextrously pops in a bullet and powder and then excitedly at being given a new toy jumps on a high branch and begins to wave the pistol around. Pointing it at master Siggard and then to Holden, back and forth between the crew and then sucks the pistol like a lollipop, all the while an itchy trigger finger poised...

Face pistol fire [1d20-5] = 6-5 = 1 a pistol shot fires into the air scattering a flock of nesting starlings and scaring the capuchin into climbing further up the tree, dropping the pistol at Siggards feet. I think the lesson is over for another day. :) The monkey finally climbs down the tree and shamefully hides himself in the backpack roost. The guys continue to warily trek the path towards the native village.(cue a d6 roll for every turn). After an hours slow trek, you find that at several points each of you step on or shake of your boots a small writhing mass of slithering snakes. They hiss and put out forked tongues to taste the air and the smell of the forest floor is 'heady' as if you walked into a high pollen count. Looking about you note every bush and tree is covered all over, like the branches are sprouting snakes. The floor to an ankle depth is covered in a giant shoal of snakes. You are in the middle of an orgy of mating snakes.actions please

Back at the plaza:...

Captain Lazarus fires his pistol at a native seeking to breach the barricade, hitting another native in the chest, the man falls to the over the grain sacks and then takes a several wounds from the farmers who bash him mercilessly with sharpened hoes. Some musket fire goes off and the area begins to fill with the drifting smoke of gunpowder. Two of the farmers get hit by flint headed arrows and the native warriors continue to press their melee. Grimwald is locked in a hand to hand combat with one of the natives who face each other with like gladiators in a square. Zoggrot is faced with the boneheaded warrior who clutches one of the larger carved bones strung around his torso and gestures in a 'stop' motion. (please give me a save vs spells please, if successful you may continue to melee).

Pocc can attack freely though no one is within arms length. You hear Lucille shout "they are trying to breach the windows." There is some commotion and a window breaks and shutters get ripped off the outside wall of the manse kitchen. The voice of Padre Claude is heard,"No, No, you mustn't",. Iggway is upstairs in the manse attic. The noise of melee and the native activity gets louder. You can hear screams and shouts and tribal cursing going on. The woman cover the younger children's ears with their hands and one or two draw small bladed daggers to watch the stairs should intruders come up.

Elijah
in the chapel sees the teenage boys manfully repel a wave of native warriors from entering through the broken windows. The two sisters continue with blessings and Geoffrey has his sights on another group of natives below who hammer at the chapel door. One drops dead from his accurate gunfire, his musket quickly reloaded and exchanged by Pascale who peers over the belfry edge.(Geoffrey you can see some of the natives carry small ladders and begin to run across the open ground as to reinforce the first wave of attackers).

next actions and verbals please. some PM's have been sent

The Plaza People:

Geoffrey plugs away, downing one of the ladder carriers. The ladder is quickly picked another who all run to the chapel wall. They brace the ladders firmly on the ground and native bowmen begin to climb up to gain access to the church roof. Pascale spots some of the natives climbing the knotted rope dangling from the belfry. She hacks one with a sword, piercing his throat as he sticks a head above the parapet ledge and sends him crashing to the door threshold below. She hacks the rope through to stop others climbing up as a trio of spears once again clatter ding-dong off the bell.

Zoggrot gets engaged with a native who spots him after slaying the bonehead shaman. After a flurry of attacks the native is beheaded and the half-orc slinks away to seek cover in a patch of deeply rutted ground.

Elijah tries to make sense of information overload from the chapel. With the sisters Blessing prayer chanted, the youths at the broken windows fend off the natives trying to climb through. The front door is sturdy enough to withstand the hammering from outside. The runner boy returns to Elijah clutching two small corked urns which he says contains lamp oil from the store. The sisters Cecillia and Beatrix cover the baptistery and the pool of Holy Water. the half dozen farmer women and twice that in younger children shield behind the broken pews.

Pocc keeps quiet about the revelations he heard from the injured man and seeks out a posse of snakes to help fortify the besieged of the plaza.

Iggway in the attic of the manse faces a dilemma about her course of action after being faced with a boy, manacled to a bed to restrain him as he suffers the effects of 'the pox' which so ravaged the native population.

next actions please and you may share any revelations found out in the open forum.

Zoggrot looks for another opportunity to pounce from behind.

Boarding axe (THAC0 20): [1d20+1] = 12+1 = 13. Dmg: [1d6+3] = 5+3 = 8/[1d4+3] = 1+3 = 4 (SM/L)

Roll doesn't +4 to-hit or or double damage for backstab.

Siggard curses at his monkey and assures the others that he won't try any more training on this trip. :?

Once seeing the disgusting accumulation of snakes, he begins to wonder just how bad this plague really is. He tries not to think about it too much, trying to gauge the others reactions.

"I for one fancy finding a better route around this area. These greaves won't save us from snakes dropping from the trees!"

Rexlin

Curses loudly taking cover when the monkey begins playing with his new toy. "Monkey with a gun! Monkey with a gun! This is how the world ends!" He is happy to not find and new holes in himself when the shot is fired. Slowly he gets up and sees everyone is fine and sighs with relief. "If I weren't so thankful to be out of that net, I'd skin that monkey, Siggard!"

When they come to the snakes he sneers at the sight. "We don't have time for this... Any way we can make them scatter without getting bit? Burn some oil or something?" Sighing but nodding to Siggard. "I agree with you. We might have to go around."

Old Eli, sea priest:

Stunned at what he's learned, and wholly uncertain as to its ramifications, the scarecrow prophet glares at the sisters who had said too much. "What is 'the pox?' Tell me!" he growls. "For the sake of these innocents put in danger by ye damned secret."

After hearing their answer, Elijah prays that Poseidon hold him in the small of his hand and protect him from harm in what he is about to do next.

Village People:

After the fun and games with Face and a loaded pistol...

"Military man, got his armour on,
Monkey machine with a loaded gun,
paying his dues on a foreign shore,
just another day playing games of war.

This is the end of the Military Man."

'Gin' Van de Poel breaks out in a rocking rythym of the late 80,s using a leafy branch as a electric fired lute. (bonus xp to the character who can name the group from one of their classics albums..)

In the forest of snakes the group walk through the undergrowth which moves and writhes in swathes. Their flickering light showing them wading ankle deep through a swarm of mating garter snakes. A couple of torches get struck, and bunching up they try to clear a path through the wriggling orgy. Snake pheromones glisten like pollen in the dusk air, the sound of hissing and swishing everywhere. Clearing a path is slow work, at each step the flaming torches are wafted across the floor in front and behind the file, the snakes instinctively impassioned mostly react by moving swiftly away though a few fanged maws angrily snap at hands and feet. Van de Poel lets out a shout of pain as a garter nips his hand causing him to drop the torch. the firebrand is snuffed out by an amorous mass of snakes chasing females, eager enough to fertilise their eggs above the danger of burning their skins. The bite is bloody but the pirate shakes off any lasting effects. After several tense minutes the group clear the snakes and continue forward.

garter snakes [1d20] = 8 [1d20] = 5 [1d20] = 5 [1d20] = 20
saving throw [1d20] = 20

The group sense that they have almost come to the end of the trail. Many footprints cut across the path between the saddle of the two hills here. Old native beads dropped on the floor and a bit further along threads of cloth caught on some snagging vines. The village is situated in a small valley or dell, between these last two hills. The area is quite forested on all sides though you note the faint outline of mangroves off to one side, an indication of a swampier section of land. In the background the faint salt air and occasional sound of cresting waves on the surrounding reef reaches you. Off to one side in the dell you can hear a sound like some farmyard animals, goats perhaps? It has taken you the best part of three hours trekking at pace to cover the 8+miles or so. The trail has indeed be fairly straight forward and though you can not see the mission station you can see the truncated top of the largest hill on Monte Verde. Despite the evening drawing in, the village seems to be alive with noise. In the shelter of a willow copse you can take a breather and plan your moves.

Mission Stations:

Sister Iggway, realises the trauma some of the children are going through and insists on Padre Claude assisting her to heal the sick children in the attic of the manse. The padre goes up the stairs as Lucille closes up the broken kitchen windows with a sorrowful look. The natives attacking through the downstairs have been grappled by Logan, the injured farmer.

Zoggrot is able to perform his more 'sensitive skills' neatly enough, despatching one of the natives completely unaware of his presence until a disembowelling 'gutrippa' hack cleaves him in twain from chest to arse. Zoggrot sees that the natives who surround the manse have managed to grasp a hold of a torn ragged figure, dragging him free of the kitchen windows. They proceed attempt to stab and pierce him with many blows but he catches the spears and breaks them violently upon his knee. With long raking talons he claws at their torsos' inflicting long gashes but the swell of natives appear to focus upon him now and they try to herd him away from the building, his howls of pain (or joy?) contrasting starkly with the groans of pains and cheers of the warriors.

Pocc attacks a native who climbs the grain sacks, halting his progression to the manse door. Several farmers overwhelm the warrior and he is beaten bloody and unconscious. The old farmer with the musket fires at one of the archers on the chapel roof. He hits and the man tumbles down to land splattering the neatly swept tiles with his blood. For his effort, the farmer is rewarded with a retort of shafts and two bring him to his knees. Grimwald and Goldie shield Captain Lazarus in the centre of the plaza.

Pascale shakes Geoffrey,"They have gained the roof, we must sweep them off or they will rain arrows and death below. Follow me." She draws a blade and jumps down the 15'ft from the belfry tower to the chapel roof. Several archers indeed kneel on the gable to fire a rain of arrows down upon the farmers.

Elijah Crowthorne
rails at the two sisters Cecillia and Beatrix, insistent that they are keeping secrets from the party. The two nuns plead innocence repeating their responsibilities for formal duties and devotions. They believe 'the pox' was brought by the 'new wave' of ship wrecked farmers months ago and after it affected the natives because they lack immunity to such colonial disease as measles and smallpox. They have no first hand knowledge of dealing with pox victims for the natives quickly buried their folk on tribal pyres and the Padre isolated the sufferers in there farms. The women in the chapel ascertain that the ship wrecked folk mostly kept themselves to themselves. Few integrated fully, perhaps not wishing to settle on such a small island. This is a 'Gauloise Free' colony and most of those were Breton by heritage. The wise old seafarer cast a spell to give him some assurance of immunity and seeks more answers as the youths spear the natives away from the windows. Dust and cobwebs float down from the ceiling as several footsteps are heard above on the roof. By the front door, some knives are being inserted to try and pick the lock and lift the bolt to gain access to the chapel sanctuary.

actions please.

Rexlin

ooc: LOL! The Rez Band! I'm still chuckling over that one!

Rexlin holds up the set of beads left on the trail. "Getting close, lads. Check your gear, make ready." he whispers back.

As they make their way where they can get s good view, Rexlin, while surveying the situation himself ask, "Anyone see any sign of the sister or where those idles might be? Gotta be honest, looks like a hornets nest down there to me. I was hoping they'd be winding down for the night, not having a party. This makes things more difficult."

Siggard strains his eyes to see anything else that might not be obvious to the group.

"I wonder if they are gearing up to move out and help with the attack. Perhaps a well thought out plan with a loud enough diversion might clear a few of the warriors away. That might allow us to get in and out unnoticed?"

Old Eli, ancient mariner:

His storm of rage at the nuns subsides, and Eli sees he has no good choices. 'The pox' is not what it seems. He wants sorely to confront the Padre, and help Iggway who is with him right now, but he can't abandon the women and children to the natives. But if Eli's guess is right, the natives could be on the side of the angels.

Sick of guesses, the old preacher sets out for answers. Elijah walks directly into the largest fray in the chapel. Standing squarely between natives and villagers, right between their blades so that they can't attack each other without attacking him, he shouts fiercely as he holds out his worn hands in both directions of the conflict. "Stop! Hold ye weapons!"

Then, he looks into the natives' eyes and commands: "Lads! Why have ye come here? What do ye know? Tell me true an' I will believe ye. But be quick about it. I fear we haven't much time."
