Holden tilts his head towards Zoggrot smiling, "I am not opposed to taking the doppelganger with us, who knows, we could become great friends and it would be much more f.....", he pauses and looks to the dead captain, "His skin is rotting, the map is probably missing some marks and decoding it with missing marks gotta be almost impossible. But taking it as a back up isn't bad if I may say so

He stands up and comes back to the group a bit excited, Did you say they can hear minds??? Actually have the ability to read thoughts?? That's fascinating! Absolutely beautiful! Its perception of the world must be utterly different", he goes on a little mind journey of what it's like to live as a doppelganger, after a few moments he snaps out of it, Barrabas, do you know how to skin animals?

Szmodics

Not sure if gagging or even stuffing the doppelgangers mouth will stop it calling for help, the Haldane pirate wannabe will nevertheless take some loose garments and gag and bind the doppelganger as best he can. He will roll her in the stained rug and tie up the two ends, twisting them like a sweet wrapper and binding them with any sashes from the curtains. At least if she awakes, she will struggle to be free of the wrapping, hopefully until we get back on board ship. He needs also to dress his own bleeding wounds.

"Anyone fancy 'sweeping' the room for goodies while we are here?"

After rolling doppelganger up, Szmodics is ready to depart, "Holden, you carry one end if you can manage. Maybe your friend could lead us the back way out?."

Can we get info from the DM on whether the dead captain still has the map tattooed on his skin? If so, skinning the captain makes much more sense than trying to take a doppelganger captive.

Zoggrot hasn't relented from possibly cutting the thing's throat yet.

The body of De Courcey, has many marine inspired tattoo designs covering his entire body, even his shaved head. Jolly roger flags, skulls, swords, maidens and mermaids and a large Caribbean map faint but still visible on the mans' back.
The Captain came off a boat named as the Hextors' Raven, which is moored on one of the far ramshackle jetties. It is an ocean going barque, single masted with a large bowsprit and lateen sail. You have heard that De Courcey allegedly ran a trading route to Eleuthera, trading in spices and narcotics (to which he may have been addicted) with a cult of elf mages. Several of his crew have visited the Succubus in recent hours looking for him, he was known to frequently visit the place and from escorts you have learned he favoured this Catriona.

Barrabas states that he and Vargo are employed by Tarik as 'gophers'. They have been waiting downstairs in the stable block for Catriona to send for them and dispose of the body discreetly. They were going to just wrap him in an old hammock weighted with rocks and throw him off a jolly rowboat during the night. The Madam also has her own 'heavies' in this place and wards the Succubus with magics. Tarik pretty much leaves the place be saving for getting information on the various 'cummings and goings' of the ship captains who frequent the place.

By the look of the body of De Courcey, already setting into rigid pose with the onset of rigor mortis, you estimate he has been dead for several hours at least, perhaps even up to a couple of days. Comparing the artwork of the tattoo on the dead body with tattoo's on your own arms, you note that the ink of the map has a particular hue and quality, as if it burns or brands the skin in a different way to the other picturesque drawings. What brings to mind is the boasting of sailor 'Fishy' who claim natives had enchanted a tattoo upon him so he could breathe underwater.

However you can realise that skinning a man is not the same as skinning an animal. We don't have thick insulated fur or a leathery hide like cattle. People are routinely 'skinned' in torture chambers but their skin is cut and stripped in ragged pieces not usually taken as a whole canvas. That requires a skill and tools that you might not presently possess, certainly not Holdens short sword. Zoggrot could try using his artisan throwing daggers, I'll need a [5d6] dex skill roll to determine the result. Also it takes time and time my not be on your side, the prostitute that Szmodics knocked unconscious is making a furore in the corridor outside.

A pouch of 70 Bretonian gold sovereigns, the silver braid necklace with interwoven web designed filigree, a simple silver ring with a large square green jade stone set in a miniature paw, the ear ring is a heavy gold knotted rope design. A pouch of what look like small poppy seeds. The clothes are fine fabrics but no footwear, perhaps they are stashed under the bed? was taken by Szmodics in the initial search of the bathroom body and clothes.

actions next gentlemen please.

Szmodics

"Knew I should have tied her up and had some fun with her." Szmodics says about the escort girl he knocked on the head with a wooden doorstop. Brandishing a wine bottle or another heavy small club like item, he will open the door and try to knock her out again if she is unattended. Opening the door what does he see?

Szmodics, she is cussing about being roughed up and robbed by a bastard, in the corridor. No one else is about at the moment but your roll shows one of the wizard eyes moving across the ceiling. The door to the room opposite is open and she has taken a few steps down the corridor so her back is currently turned to you.

Szmodics

Will step out into the corridor as quietly as the creeping floorboards and his boots will allow, sneaking up behind the 'milf' and weighing in with a smash on the head with a bottle of plonk or whatever might be at hand to cosh the escort quiet. He will drag her back into the room, laying her upon the bed, if she is knocked out.

Holden pats Zoggort on the back, "You should go there and give it your best try at taking the captain's skin map, he snickered at the term skin map, "go by the meat if you think it's best

He turns to Barrabas, "Help me get her.....him....it on the carpet, it will look as if we are taking the captain away under Tarik's orders", he begins to roll the doppleganger up in the carpet.

The room you enter has solid oak panelling and fine brocade wallpapers decorating the walls. The room is dark with a single glazed window over looking a back courtyard and stables. A solid silk draped four poster leans against one wall, you can see one of the legs propped up by a small pile of books to keep it steady. Around the room, sparse but luxurious carved wooden furniture stand. The carpet is threadbare, stained now in yellow ichor, sports several spots of red wine and traces of candle wax walked over it. The dresser has a cheval mirror standing over a few drawers which lie open showing various ladies ware, perfumes, oils, gloss. The thin reed screen barely keeps Catriona's modesty separate from your peeking eyes.

Zoggrot despairs at the actions of the others and plans a quick escape route through the window. The window does open, a little weathered and in need of some maintenance the timber frame is rotten and the window rattles loosely in the wind. The floor you are on is about 20'ft or so above the cobbled courtyard. Another floor is above you though darkened windows and heavy drawn curtains betray little light from rooms within. The breeze catches some of the warm moist air rising up from the sauna flues. The courtyard is lit by a centre brazier giving flickering light from flaming coals. A Succubus client is 'busy' in one open stable block, mounting his escort and whipping her behind with a riding crop, several loose gold coins glint around her in the moonlight. The climb down from the window ledge and a short drop does not look too arduous if Zoggrot chose to exit that way. Two giggling Halfling escorts skip merrily across the courtyard from the sauna block, wrapped only in wet towels, they are shortly followed by the familiar dark skinned turbaned figure of Rico, who larconically leans against a wall and lights up a cigar. The courtyard has a small wire fence across two walls, separating the guest area from the wrought closed back gate. Two creatures, the size of large dogs but with unfamiliar large bat like wings hop about catching scurrying rats which scavenge among the cobbles.

Szmodics once again proves himself to be a hit with the ladies. Coshing the escort senseless for a second time. This time however he is not as fortunate to hide his deeds. The arcane wizard eye floats over to view him dragging the body inside before having the door slammed from its' sight. You may presume an alarm, even if unheard has been sounded somewhere.

Picking up the rolled up rug containing the body of the doppelganger, Szmodics and Holden lift their burden. Barabbas suggests you might be able to sneak the body out down the back stairs like he and Vargo had originally been instructed to do. He awaits for the nod from Holden before leaving the room with a dagger drawn."I can take you as far as the pier, but my allegiance is still with Tarik. What he makes of Vargos' demise I don't know, but take her away and do with her what you will." he says.

"Good luck with the body. Maybe I will see you back at the ship," says Zoggrot as he climbs out the window and starts up the side of the building to the roof. Unfortunately, his grip slips...

Climb walls (1-90=success): [1d100] = 99

D'oh! Well, with a 20' drop, that's probably the end of Zoggrot.

Holden is astonished by Zoggort's sudden exit, he muffles his laugh, You are an interesting fella! See you at the ship!

Holden nods to Barabbas, "I understand, to the pier is enough, I respect your wishes, are you going to be okay? Hope we didn't land you in too much trouble", showing actual concern towards him as they go through the hallways

Szmodics

is alarmed at Zoggrot suddenly 'jumping ship' and even more alarmed to see him crash to the floor. If he can spy Rico he will hail him pointing at Zoggrots body. Then we should try to leave.

"Holden grab one end, Barabbas, lead us to this stable exit."

) Left on negative hp and without help, you must make a successful hard [4d6] Constitution save each round or take an additional d2 ongoing damage. Once a save has been made, your character is stabilised and will remain comatose until healed or rested in a safe place (not a dungeon), regaining d3 hp for each full day of complete rest
the above is a quote from the November amended house rules.

Zoggrot climbs through the narrow window frame, ignoring the warning that the frame is rotten and stonework in disrepair. The drop to the courtyard is a short one and unfortunately for Zoggrot quicker than anticipated. What should have been an easy escape turns into a worst case scenario. Casualness or negligence turning the hand of fate against the half-orc and he slips to land awkwardly on the cobbles below. The short fall still causing him to break a collar bone and knock out a couple of teeth.

10'ft fall [1d6] = 3 Zoggrot takes -3hp.

Apologises Zhym, I traced the forum and actually you have listed your cutlass as a short sword so you could have kept yourself armed with that. I did however overlook the fact Zoggrot is a dual class character rather than a fighter so the damage you took in the doppel-Cat fight, -5hp and -4hp would have already put you unconscious in the room above. I thought you had 1hp remaining. Acting upon that Zoggrot has -2hp overall and presently knocked out in the courtyard.

Szmodics lifts the rug and the head end of the snuggled doppelganger, Holden lifting up the feet end. They follow Barabbas out of the door, turning left in the corridor and left again into the room the Tarik gophers came through. The room is bare save for a small cabinet and some dried flowers. A broken window pane , grimy with fingerprints and cobwebs lets in a little light. A narrow stairs descend, the tight corner below making progress down difficult. Legs first seems the way best to go. A muffled cry and wriggle comes from inside the coiled rug as doppel-Cat groggily awakes to consciousness.

Some commotion is in the corridor behind you. Several of the escorts gather at the top of the wide stairs and huddling point at you three, whispering. A couple of punters hurriedly vacate the front lounge and stairwell. The arcane wizard eye, seen floating above the chandelier previously and then patrolling the corridor whizzes past and zips into the helmet of the armoured statue at the end of the hallway. The visor drops down on the helmet and from its small eye slits, an eerie red oscillating glow shines out. The hollow suit of armour begins to animate and slowly emerges off its pedestal in the alcove. Gripping a two handed halberd it expertly rotates it in his gauntlets and then takes a guarded stance in the corridor. Stunted movements, like stiff robotics cause it turn and follow through the door. It points through the open door at Szmodics and a gravelly tin voice commands, "Stop and surrender to the Madam, you have committed an assault."

Outside in the courtyard, Rico reacts to Zoggrots unexpected fall by running across the cobbles and begins triaging the prone body of his comrade. (no that doesn't mean raiding his pockets!).

actions gentlemen please and for Zoggrot a [4d6] Constitution save.

Szmodics

Presumably carrying the head I am now at the top of the stairs. So seeing this armour clad automaton following and challenging us, Szmodics will fire of a bolt from his crossbow, dropping the carpet roll and head of the doppelganger on the staircase for Holden to drag , bouncing the carpet one step at a time and hopefully concussing Catriona whoever back into passivity.

Zoggrot breathes heavily on the courtyard floor, perhaps such an innocuous fall has damaged him more seriously than first thought. negative hp ongoing damage until stabilised [1d2] = 1 Zoggrot moves to -3hp

Rico unaware of the situation above only assumes such a dramatic exit means trouble is looming. Rolling the prone body of Zoggrot over, he checks for visible wounds. There are several, puncture wounds form the claws of the doppelganger. He rips up his sauna towel and hastily stuffs them over the marks and applies heavy pressure to stem the loss of blood. Stabilised but unconscious, Zoggrots fate remains uncertain. Rico looks around for any forthcoming help. The man humping in the stable block, distracted by Zoggrots sudden appearance, pulls his clothes together and departs, his kneeling escort busy gleaning the loose gold from among the scattered hay before too nervously running for the Succubus lower hallways. An aged stabled mule whinnies in the night air and the creatures on guard, untethered and roaming the fenced courtyard begin to bark and crackle, though still occupied with chasing fat rodents around.

Barabbas , looks at Holden and shrugs."I know nothing of the interior of the Succubus or how order is kept. I just 'gopher' this and 'gopher' that between Catriona and Tarik. We had orders to watch the captain from the ship and wait for the prostitute to kill him. Dispose of his body was all we were told." He continues around the stairs, "The room below is a sort of servants common room. For playing cards and having a crafty smoke." He looks around the corner and indeed in the room below finds a couple of folk sitting at an old pine table. Both are Succubus escorts weary of their night endeavours. One unpins a long 'hive' of hair and places her false blonde locks on the table Stretching lazily, she holds her high stiletto heeled shoes up, complaining noisily about the problems it gives her calf. The other is a dwarven female, busy waxing hair from short arms and chomping on some aromatic leaf. You can see she has several gold teeth and an ill fitting basque, burdgeoning at the seams.

Holden, humps the rug down the stairs, bump, bump, bump goes the head end on the steps. Each illicits a muffled noise from within. The pair look at the 'furniture removers' with surprise.

Upstairs, Szmodics gets off a critical shot. The short bolt flies truer than true and penetrates the visor of the armoured figure. The floating wizard eye, manifesting some kind of control over the automaton is struck and splattered like a soft fruit stepped upon. The oscillating red lights go out, It does not stop the creation though. Blinded, the walking armour stumbles towards the stairs, jabbing at thin air. The halberd, (still with a pair of frilly knickers attached), smashes the banister rails just above Szmodics head. It voices another warning to stop, but is clearly disorientated by losing its vision.

action for Szmodics and Holden please

Szmodics will let off another bolt at the armour figure and then hoping that the creature is blinded it will struggle to follow us downstairs.

Holden smiles acting calmly as if nothing happened, "Ahhh, sorry girls for barging in like this, my friend here truly has no manners, I tried telling him to knock first but he just slams in, he moves naturally towards the rug giving Barabbas a small nod to move with him, "Lady Catorina had a little ummm.....'incident' with a client, you know how men are, bunch of beasts who can't treat a lady right. Especially ones such as yourselves, he winks as he carries his end, "Now, if you ladies will excuse us, we have a lesson in manners to teach.
