Jenny thinks for a moment. So we have to take out the choppers before the dam, right? Otherwise we'll just be driftwood full of holes on the river.

How about we load up the trucks, then drive closer to the landing field to save some time.

Saul- Listen to Jenny's idea. It would be easier. But I believe we to scout the area first to see what there security is like.

In the woods/stream near the intersection of Route 93 and the Big Lost River not far from Chilly, Idaho; approx. Noon to 3 PM, Thursday, 18 June, 1987

The band of freedom-fighters load up the two Broncos with the explosives, det-cord and plungers, all the oars, the RPG and RPKs and tie a canoe to each vehicle's roof. They then re-bury/camouflage the rest of the cache and get into the two loaded Broncos; Billy and Jenny in one with the former behind the wheel and Raffy and Saul in the other with Cabrera of COURSE behind the wheel....

They travel the dirt road and fairly quickly come to where it intersects with Route 93; they quietly move the Broncos into the woods off the side of the road and move quietly to the intersection; the only noise being the Stream that runs parallel to the dirt road babbling next to them. They soon soon come up to the intersection of the major highway which runs perpendicular to the road and the stream that branches off of it. The base of the mountains rise up on the other side of the road, making a majestic sight in the mid-afternoon day....

Saul takes the lead and quickly using some binoculars sees that a detachment of Soviets lies down both directions of the road. To the North, towards Chilly and the helicopter base, an 8 wheeled BTR armored personnel carrier lies along the road with a squad of soldiers lounging around; clearly forming an impromptu road-barrier. The BTR was armed with a turret that mounted both a medium machine gun AND a 14.5mm 'heavy machine gun' that was really more of a small automatic cannon and the vehicle could carry a squad of 8 troops along with its 2 or 3 man crew. To the South the more formidable sight of a pair of T-72 tanks were parked on either side of the road, one with a turret pointing towards the South, the other North towards Saul's view. Each tank had a 3 man crew and was armed with a 125mm Main Cannon; a 12.7mm Heavy machine gun on the top of the turret and a 7.62mm Medium machine gun mounted co-axially in the turret as well.

Moving back to the others, 'Slick Silver' tells them the situation and studies the map. The Big Lost River flowed North to South into the Mackay Resevoir, directly north of the Dam they needed to blow; about 10 clicks away. It also ran to the base of the plateau that Chilly and its Helo base sat on top of; though that would require paddling upstream 2 or 3 kilometers away and then making the climb to the top. There WAS a dirt road that led up to the little town as well, but it was past the BTR blockade....

The obvious ways to get to Chilly and the Helicopters were too attempt to take out the BTR blockade and drive there.....try to sneak around the blockade by walking/climbing....or paddle the canoes up that way....perhaps at night...

*Notes: If there's anything from the Widow's knees you wanted to bring along that I didn't mention, please let me know.....also, I finally got around to updating character sheets to reflect that no one is wounded and that everyone has 2 Hero Points

Saul We have 3 options. Option 1 We ambush the BTR and squad of 8 men hoping that they do not radio the two tanks up the road. Option 2 We ambush or sneak in and take out the 2 T-72 tanks and there 3 man crews. Option 3 We paddle upstream to the Helo's doing our mission and leaving these enemies at our back on our retreat.

Jenny

"I'm tired. Tired of running and hiding from these bastards."Jenny is visibly upset and angry. "Those tanks can take out the BTR, right? But the BTR would have problems with the tanks?"

Jenny is shaking slightly as she suggests "I vote we take the tanks. Maybe use one to take out the BTR."

Jenny takes a deep breath and seems to calm down a bit. A bit red-faced, she says "I don't know, it's all too much. Maybe we just stick with the plan and go to the helicopters."

"Helicopters, Tanks, all the same. They all stop without lubrication." Raffy says, "Let's go deal with the Tanks first."

Raffy responds, "All I need is five minutes to get underneath them and do the deed, but them they do need to start the engines eventually in order to for the damage to be done."

In the woods/stream near the intersection of Route 93 and the Big Lost River not far from Chilly, Idaho; approx. 3:30 PM, Thursday, 18 June, 1987

Saul slowly and carefully leads the others back thru the woods and down to where the pair of T-72 tanks sit parked; though the hum of the engines is audible and lets everyone know that the tanks are ready to move/act at a moment's notice. The top hatches are open and a pair of bored Soviet tankers stand there, occasionally chatting in Russian and looking around with binoculars. Makarov pistols in shoulder holsters are visible on their chests; and after a few minutes, one of them gets up and a different Russian tanker climbs up and out of the tank and rushes over to the side of the road AWAY from the group to relieve himself, getting some good-natured razzing from his fellows, before he rushes back over and clambers back into the tank.

Studying the situation, it seems rather tricky to figure out how to best attempt to take out the tanks with no-one noticing. The tanks are a good 20 or so yards away from the tree-line; meaning a sprint and/or crawl to get to them would have to be VERY carefully timed. They COULD be engaged with shooting at the people standing with their torsos and heads out of the tanks...but that leaves the problem of how to take out the others in the tank before they could seal the tank off. Perhaps an RPG to the rear of the tank with the turret facing AWAY from the party could yield dividends....but the other tank would be facing them....

The more Saul thought about it, the more he realized that it would probably be best to wait for nightfall to either make an attack on the tanks; or move back to a position in between the tanks and the BTR and either walk/crawl or use the canoes to paddle by in the stream that flows under the road and into the River on the opposite side. The canoes wouldn't make much noise...they'd travel UNDER the road where the tanks/BTR were and though they'd have to paddle upstream; it might be quicker than trying to walk/hike up the steep side of the mountains to Chilly....

Plus, it dawned on Saul that the Soviet units lying along the road would be in the middle of the flooded area if the Dam is blown up; probably washing them away or at the very least, ensuring they'd be more than a little impaired at any attempt to engage them during the escape attempt....

What would the companions choose to do.....

Saul- As he continues to think about taking the separate groups. I think it best that we wait to travel up the creek at night. We remove the tank teams than take out the other group with one of the tanks.

Raffy agrees, "With the engines running, I got a plan, a monkey wrench, hammer and a chisel, and it's over inside of three minutes. Let's just wait and I'll sneak up and under,"

Jenny

Jenny seems a bit nervous, but there is no tremor in her voice. "Ok. Let's do it. We wait until night, then strike."

Raffy take a break and gathers a few tools before he sets out at twilight. He gets close, staying under cover observing the behavior of the guards. "I'm thinking once the engine dies on one, the others will come to investigate. We hit 'em then, then right to taking out their other position."

Billy Barstowe

Billy tries to keep his nerves in check, while waiting for night and the attack on the tanks to commence.
