Price of Freedom: Player Characters

#1 Post by max_vale »

Okay, I'll be posting all the characters in this thread, but here's a list of the skills and the attributes to which they're assigned. Remember, if a character doesn't have points listed in a skill they can still use it at the Default level...which is the attribute....i.e. if Joe Schmo has DEX: 3D, but doesn't have the Guns skill listed....he uses Guns at 3D (the DEX score). Many of the skills in D6 are VERY broad....and if you want to try something that's not listed, ask me and I'll try to figure out which attribute the skill falls under.

DEX: Guns; Brawling Parry; Dodge; Launcher Weapons; Missile Weapons; Melee Weapons; Melee Parry; Musical Instruments; Thrown Weapons

KNO: Bureaucracy; Cultures; Languages; Medicine; Academics (Music, History, Etc.); Streetwise; Survival; Tactics; Technology

MECH: Animal Handling/Riding; Navigation; Driving; Piloting; Radios; Gunnery; Ordinance; Sailing

PER: Bargain; Con; Gambling; Hide/Sneak; Leadership; Performance; Persuasion; Search

STR: Brawling; Climbing/Jumping; Lifting; Stamina; Swimming; Running

TECH: Aircraft Repair; Boat/Ship Repair; Demolition; Electronics; Equipment Repair; Car Repair; Computer Operation; Computer Repair; Security

Guns: Covers everything from Pistols to Light Machineguns. Cannons, Missile launchers mounted on planes, etc. will use the Gunnery skill.

Launcher Weapons: Covers grenade launchers, rocket launchers, Hand-held SAMs, etc.

Missile Weapons: Covers Bows, Crossbows, Harpoon guns, etc.

Thrown Weapons: This covers throwing Knives, Shurikens ('Ninja stars'), Grenades, etc.

Gunnery: This covers Tank cannons, Helicopter Chain guns, Naval Guns, Mortars, etc.

Ordinance: This covers Bombs, Missiles, Rocket Pods, etc.

Security: This covers both installing security measures AND defeating said measures.

Performance: This is for Singing, Dancing, Acting, etc.

Note: Most repair skills can also cover construction....to a degree.

Hair: Brown

Attributes and Skills:

DEX: 3D (Guns: 4d, B. Parry: 4D, Musical Instruments: 4D)
KNOW: 3D (Music: 5D)
MECH: 3D (Driving: 4D)
PER:3D+1 (Persuasion: 4D; Performance (singing): 5D+1)
STR: 3D (Brawling: 4D)
TECH: 2D+2 (Auto Repair: 3D)

Wound Status: Wounded (-1D to all actions)
Hero Points:

Equipment: Winchester 70 .30-06 caliber Bolt-Action Hunting Rifle; 13 Rifle Bullets; Colt 1911 .45 caliber Pistol; 3 Pistol Clips (7 rounds each); Acoustic Guitar; 1980 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck; 4 man tent; 2 Bedrolls; 10 gallon tank of gas; 0 Grenades (throwing range: 10/20/30 yards; blast radius 3/6/10 yards; damage: 7D/5D/3D)

Background: Billy was born the third and last child of Donald and Mary Barstowe of Sacramento California in 1960. He had an older brother, Donald Jr., who was 10 years older than him and has an older sister, Elizabeth who is 11 years older than him; Billy was a 'happy-accident' for his parents. His older sister went to Berkley and got a degree in Education. She is currently a teacher at a small town in Idaho. His older brother Donnie joined the Army in 1968 and was killed the following year in action in Vietnam. His mother died in a car accident in 1980; leaving Billy to only regularly see his father who lives in a small home to the north of Sacramento. His father served in the Army for 20 years and fought in Korea. He also taught Billy how to shoot and took him on several hunting trips when he was growing up, but Billy was never all that interested. Instead, Billy got into music and singing, largely thanks to his mother, who sang in the church choir. As Billy got older, he got into Rock n' Roll and briefly attended college, where he dated Jenny Ling for a little while; before he dropped out and began to make a living as a musician. Billy moved to Oakland, where he is a passionate fan of the A's baseball team; and so far he has managed to keep his head above water, but not much else. He has real talent and he has recorded a couple of singles; the best known of which (All the steel has moved to Yokohama) is a well known song among many of the dive bars and slightly more upscale restaurants in the Bay Area; but he has yet to hit the big time. When the Soviets demonstrated their 'Star Wars' capability and the President surrendered; Billy was angry. While he is apolitical; he can't believe that the country his Father served and his Brother gave his life for; would just cow tow to the Red bastards. He took his old pickup truck and drove out to his Dad's cabin in the woods of Northern California, where his father told him he planned on living. Gathering a hunting rifle and some equipment; he decided he would go track down some of his friends who he thought might take a stand against the Soviets and joining them in a resistance movement. His father gave him his old service .45 pistol and wished him luck. Billy's first port-of-call is the apartment of one of his neighbors; the scary-yet-bad-ass Saul Silverman. Billy's not sure exactly what he does for a living; but there's no doubt that THAT man knows how to fight....

Jennifer 'Jenny' Ling

Occupation: Nurse
Ethnicity/Gender: Chinese (Taiwanese) American Female
Age: 26
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 112 lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown

Attributes and Skills:

DEX: 3D+1 (Guns: 3d+2, B. Parry: 3D+2, Dodge: 3D+2)
KNOW: 3D+2 (Medicine: 5D+2, Languages: 4D+2)
MECH: 3D
PER: 3D (Bargain: 4D)
STR: 2D+2 (Brawling: 3D+2, Stamina: 3D+2)
TECH: 2D+1 (Computer Operation: 3D+1)

Wound Status: Wounded (-1D to all actions)
Hero Points:

Equipment: AKSU Carbine; One 15 round clip; Two 30 round clips; Beretta Cheetah .32 caliber Pistol; 2 clips (One with 5 rounds, One with 9 rounds); Scrubs; Med Kit; Backpack

Background: Jennifer 'Jenny' Ling was born in the city of Taipei, capital of Taiwan, in 1961 as the only child of Teng and Mei Ling; a Doctor and a School Teacher respectively. Life in Taiwan in the 60s was rather tumultuous and the Lings were happy to be able to emigrate to the States in 1970. They moved to Chinatown, San Francisco, where some relatives were living and Jenny grew up with a love of medicine inherited from her father and an ability to bargain with street vendors that she learned from her mother. Her parents, who had lived through war in China, both against the Japanese and against Communists, instilled in their daughter regular martial-arts training to be able to defend herself and a hatred and distrust for Communism. Jenny attended college at UC Davis, where she got a degree in Nursing, with a minor in Foreign Languages, and while there, she briefly dated Billy Barstowe. It was at about this time; 1981, that her parents emigrated back to Taiwan; which had become much more stable than it had been in her youth. After graduating from college, she went to work at a hospital in Oakland, and has recently become roommates with a female FBI Agent named Lisa Accardo. After several scary encounters with gang-members and other shady types walking to and from work; Lisa has taught Jenny the basics of shooting and purchased a small handgun for protection for her, which she has a license to carry. One day, Jenny thought she may have to use it when she encountered a Latino gang member, but he was wounded and pleading with her to help his brother (she was in scrubs). She went to help the brother, but found he was already dead and worked to patch up the young man (Raffy Cabrera), while also not mentioning his gang affiliation when the cops came by. Raffy was very thankful for this and has vowed that he will do anything for her if and when asked, after he recovered and left the hospital. That was barely a week ago. Now, the U.S. has surrendered and the Soviets are landing at the airports to take over. The normally quiet and apolitical Jenny surprised her roommate by stating that she intended to become a resistance member and Accardo told her to grab her things as they were driving to the apartment of a 'tough cookie' she knew who would probably be a good place to go for learning how to go about forming a resistance....

Rafael 'Raffy' Cabrera

Image

Occupation: Car Mechanic/Gang-member
Ethnicity/Gender: Mexican-American male
Age: 22
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 146 lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black

Attributes and Skills:

DEX: 3D+1 (Guns: 4D, Melee Wpns: 4D, M. Parry: 4D)
KNOW: 2D+2 (Streetwise: 4D)
MECH: 3D+1 (Driving: 4D+1)
PER: 2D+2 (Hide/Sneak: 4D+1, Con: 3D+2)
STR: 2D+2 (Brawling: 3D+2)
TECH: 3D+1 (Auto Repair: 4D+1, Security: 4D)

Wound Status:
Hero Points: 0

Equipment: Mac-10 .45 caliber Sub-machine gun; .32 caliber Revolver; 2 clips (15 rounds in one, 30 rounds in the other) for the SMG, Thirty .32 bullets for the pistol; Switchblade (Damage is STR +1, for Raffy this means 3D); Lockpicks; Automotive tool kit; Black Duffel Bag; M-16 Assault Rifle, one 15 round clip; two 30 round clips

Background: Rafael 'Raffy' Cabrera was born as the second child to parents he never knew; a Felipe and Rosita Cabrera, the former a gang member and the latter a grocery store clerk and drug addict. He had an older brother, Raul, 2 years older, who was all the family he knew for most of his life as his father was killed in a shooting when Raffy was 2 and his mother gave up both of her children for adoption when they were 11 and 9 respectively. Bouncing around in foster homes, Raul grew tough quickly, but always looked out for his little brother, ensuring that he stayed in school while he himself dropped out at 15. Raul was soon in a gang, but never stopped doing his best to make sure his brother didn't get into 'the life'; but ultimately failing when Raffy forced himself into the world after graduating high school. Even then, he made sure Raffy only did 'safe' jobs; like fixing up stolen cars or acting as the getaway driver. Raffy was picked up a couple of times, by a veteran Police SGT named Deacon Hays; who could see the good in the young man and did his best to try and 'talk some sense' into the young man. While Raffy kinda resented the treatment from his brother and the cop, he respected the SGT's advice as he had come up the hard way too and he always loved his brother and was therefore devastated when just a few weeks ago, his brother was killed by a rival gang, the 'Dead Heads' and he was wounded in the same shooting. A nurse happened to be walking by, in her scrubs as there was a hospital a couple of blocks away, and he asked her to help his brother but she sorrowfully told him that there wasn't anything she could do. She then went to work on him, helping to ensure he lived to get good treatment at the hospital and when the cops came by, she never mentioned anything about his brother and his gang affiliation and for that, he was grateful and promised that if she ever needed a favor, he'd deliver. Getting out of the hospital, he first got a few drinks in a bar, where he overheard a guy who was a pretty good singer and guitar player. He had a talk with the singer and learned his name was Billy Barstowe and Raffy couldn't help but like the guy. Over the next couple of days he caught up on current events and he doesn't think much of living under a Russian boot and he has utilized some street contacts to get some weapons and a car. He planned on getting some revenge on the Dead Heads when SGT Hays drove up and asked him if he was interested in maybe joining up with a resistance group. Raffy shrugged and got in the car with Deac who told him he was going to an old army buddy's apartment; a guy he thought would be perfect to join a resistance group with. Cabrera is fine with that as the apartment also happens to be near Dead Head territory....

Deacon 'Deac' Hays

KIA

Image

Occupation: Police Officer (Rank: Sergeant)
Ethnicity/Gender: Black Male
Age: 37
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 196 lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black

Attributes and Skills:

DEX: 3D (Guns: 5D, Dodge: 4D, B. Parry: 4D)
KNOW: 3D (Streetwise: 4D, Bureaucracy: 3D+2, Law: 4D)
MECH: 3D (Driving: 4D, Medicine: 3D+1)
PER: 3D (Search: 4D)
STR: 3D+1 (Brawling: 4D+1)
TECH: 2D+2

Wound Status: WOUNDED (-1D to all skills/attribute rolls until treated)
Hero Points: 1

Equipment: Remington 870 12-gauge Pump-action Shotgun (6 shell capacity); Smith & Wesson Model 15 .38 caliber Revolver; 12 Shotgun Shells (Buckshot); 12 bullets for the Revolver (including 6 loaded in the weapon); 2 Walkie-Talkies; 2 sets of Handcuffs; Nightstick; Police Badge; Bullet-proof Vest (+2 pips to STR to resist damage; -1 pip to all DEX skills while wearing it), Flashlight; 1981 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4 door sedan; M-16 Assault Rifle, One 17 round clip; two 30 round clips; 0 Grenade (throwing range: 10/20/30 yards; blast radius 3/6/10 yards; damage: 7D/5D/3D)

Background: Deacon Hays was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1950 to a father who worked at GM and a mother who was a part-time clerk and homemaker. He has 1 younger sister, who still lives in Detroit with his brother-in-law and niece and nephew while his parents are retired in Dearborn, Michigan. Deac was drafted into the army shortly after graduation from highschool in 1968 and fought in Vietnam, where one of his platoon mates was Saul Silverman. It was largey through Saul's guidance that Deac got through the war okay, and upon returning from the service; Hays briefly attended college at San Jose State, before dropping out and eventually becoming a policeman. Deac was married for a few years, but his job led to many fights with his wife and after 7 tumultuous years, they divorced. Hays has become a widely respected cop by both his peers and many of those he protects and occasionally arrests, as he is very fair and tends to look out for those who might otherwise be ignored or treated badly by his fellow officers. This has led to his friendship with Raffy Cabrera, who he recognizes is a good kid, despite his criminal ties. He has also assisted female FBI Agent Lisa Accardo on a case and he was impressed with her abilities and this acceptance, which most of his fellow cops and her fellow Agents were NOT giving her, has led to a friendship between the two as well. The President's surrender is NOT sitting well with the former Soldier and veteran Police SGT and he has decided to go to his old friend Saul's apartment to see about setting up a resistance group. Along the way, he sees Raffy Cabrera and asks him to join in. Something about the ready acceptance Raffy gives makes Hays suspicious of the young man's motives, but he figures as long as he's with the young man, he can look out for him….

Lisa Accardo

KIA

Image

Occupation: FBI Agent (Rank: Special Agent)
Ethnicity/Gender: Italian-American Female
Age: 31
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 133 lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown

Attributes and Skills:

DEX: 3D (Guns: 5D, Dodge: 4D)
KNOW: 3D+1 (Bureaucracy: 4D, Law: 4D+1)
MECH: 3D (Piloting: 4D)
PER: 3D (Search: 5D, Persuasion: 4D)
STR: 3D (Brawling: 4D)
TECH: 2D+2 (Aircraft Repair: 3D)

Wound Status:
Hero Points: 2

Equipment: Smith & Wesson 459 9mm Pistol; 3 clips (2 with 14 rounds; 1 with 12 rounds); Flashlight; 1987 Ford Escort Hatchback; 1 Set of Handcuffs; Badge; Bullet-proof Vest (+2 pips to STR to resist damage; -1 pip to all DEX skills while wearing it); Two 30 round M-16 clips; 1 Grenade (throwing range: 10/20/30 yards; blast radius 3/6/10 yards; damage: 7D/5D/3D)

Background: Lisa Accardo was born in 1956 as the only child of Vincenzo and Antonia Accardo; a commercial airline pilot and a homemaker. Lisa's mother died from complications after giving birth to her only child and Lisa therefore grew up without a mother. Her father was devoted to his daughter though and he never expressed anything but support for anything Lisa was interested in. She grew up with a sharp mind and an athletic disposition that many saw as 'un-lady-like', but it never deterred her father and therefore never stopped her either. Her father taughter her how to fly as a teen and Lisa holds a Private Pilot's License, though she rarely gets to use these skills any more. She became very interested in law and after graduating Suma Cum Laude from USC, she entered Law School at Standford and graduated near the top of her class. While in Law School though, she became much more interested in the 'Order' side of Law and Order and decided that she wanted to become an FBI agent. Almost everyone told her that this was a pipe dream and that being an FBI agent was no life for a 'girl'. Her father had a series of health issues at this point and in what would become thier last meeting, shortly after she graduated Law School in 1981, he encouraged her to follow her dream before passing away from heart failure and this sealed it for Lisa. She was GOING to become an FBI agent no matter what; and shortly thereafter, she did indeed enroll in the FBI Academy and pass the tough process required to become a field Agent. Soon, she was assigned to the FBI's San Fransisco office and she has mostly been utilized as little more than a 'gopher'. She soon moved into an apartment in Oakland, which she shares with a nurse named Jenny Ling. The two have become good friends and Lisa has taught Jenny a bit more about self-protection than just the martial arts skills Jenny already knew. Specifically, she taught her how to shoot and helped her pick out a small pistol for protection. Not respected by the vast bulk of her colleagues, she did manage to shut up some of them when she tracked down a kidnapper in Oakland with the help of a wise street cop named Deacon Hays who judged her strictly on her ability and not on her gender. During the case, she investigated a scary and definitely dangerous man named Saul Silverman; but soon found that he had nothing to do with the kidnapper, he was just a bad-ass military and mercenary type. It came as quite the shock to Jenny when the President of the country surrendered to the Soviets after they revealed thier 'Star Wars' technology and not about to bow down to the commies, she decided to join in the Resistance. When she brought in up to Jenny she was rather surprised at the quick willingness of her usually gentle roommate to join in as well, and the two of them haved hopped in Lisa's Ford Escort to head to Saul Silverman's as she feels he'd be a GREAT person to talk to about starting a resistance movement….

STR: 3D+2 (Brawling: 4D+2, Running: 4D+2, Stamina: 4D+2)
TECH: 3D (Demolitions: 4D, Equipment Repair: 4D)

Wound Status: Wounded (-1D to all actions; can barely move)
Hero Points:

Equipment: Uzi 9mm Submachinegun; 3 clips (32 rounds in 2 clips; 1 clip with 16 rounds); Colt Python .357 caliber Revolver; 12 rounds for the pistol (including the 6 loaded in the pistol); Survival Knife with compass (Damage: STR+2, for Saul this means: 4D+1); Fishing line and lures; Shelter halves (mini-tent) and bedroll; rations for a week; Flashlight; Dark Green Duffle bag; 0 Grenades (throwing range: 10/20/30 yards; blast radius 3/6/10 yards; damage: 7D/5D/3D); M-16 Assault Rifle; two 30 round clips

Background: Saul was born to dirt-poor parents in the Bronx, NYC in 1949 as the middle of 3 children. His parents had emigrated from Lithuanian due to the Soviet purges during Stalin's rise to power and the ever frequent attacks on Jews. His parents decided to change their name shortly after coming through Ellis Island in an attempt to sound more 'American'. Not long after arriving here in the mid 30s; his father was drafted into the Army during WW2 and he was soon back in Europe, fighting the Italians and the Nazis in the Italian campaign. Learning a hatred for Fascists and the Soviets…who his parents always felt were just fascists hiding behind communism; Saul grew up strong, smart and with world-class eye-hand coordination and reflexes. He was phenomenal in 3 different sports in high school and quite probably could have become a successful professional athlete if he wanted to, yet Saul had already made up his mind to become a soldier. Right after graduation, he enlisted and was very quickly in the thick of fighting in Vietnam. He soon discovered that he was truly a born warrior…who while he never loved killing or violence; he wasn't bothered by it either and he found that it was in combat that he most felt 'this is what I was born to do'. His exploits netted him a treasure trove of medals; a Distinguished Service Cross, 2 Silver Stars, 3 Purple Hearts, etc. as he fought for 3 straight years in 'Nam, from 1967 to 1970. This led to his nickname of 'Slick Silver'; for being so capable and sneaky in the field and he did his best to teach is craft to a number of young men he served with, including a young Deacon Hays, who he became life-long friends with. After the war, he returned to the States and to the peacetime Army, by this time a SGT; but he found peacetime life boring and unfulfilling. His last station was at the Presidio in San Fransisco and it was here that he decided to get out of Active Duty (though he remained in the National Guard) and he was soon finding work as a Mercenary; getting into action all over the globe. He will not accept missions where he targets innocents; but he has few other qualms. He has fought in Africa, Asia, South and Central America; usually against Communist or Communist-backed groups and when he's not out of the country; he's working as a bodyguard here in the States. Recently he was brought in by a capable female FBI Agent named Lisa Accardo as a person of interest in a kidnapping case, which he knew nothing about but he was impressed by her instincts and tenacity. He currenlty lives in an apartment in Oakland and one of his neighbors; a young singer named Billy Barstowe he has gotten to know and had talks with when the young man told him his Dad had been in the Army and fought in Korea and his older brother had been killed in Vietnam. Now, he's shocked that the President cowed to the Soviets so fast, but he's not about to meekly live his life under the Soviet yoke. With his skills and arsenal, he's going to make those Reds bleed for as long as he's alive and able. To his surprise, a number of people have showed up to his apartment with much the same idea in mind….

STR: 2D+2 (Brawling: 3D, Stamina: 3D)

Background: Yojiro 'Yo' Akiyama is a native Californian of nisei descent, raised in the Imperial Valley. Until last year, he was on active duty in the US Army as a 13F [Artillery Forward Observer]. In his 4 years, he did a tour in Korea [NOT a fun time for someone who so looked so obviously Japanese] and a tour with the 7th Infantry Div. [Light] at Ft. Ord. After his discharge, he tried to return to the family farm, but was too restless to really give it or college a go. He tried bumming around working odd jobs, but current events left him very concerned. He began to take some precautions, although not enough, by assembling a 'go bag' and investing in a Ruger Mini-14 and some range time. Spending time at the range got him into contact with several survivalist types who had no intention of passively rolling over to a Soviet takeover. Yo wholeheartedly agrees, having seen what a Soviet style society looks like on the other side of the DMZ.
