Deacon winces as he sees Lisa go down. Pulling the pin on his grenade, he throws it like a bowling ball, aiming to roll it beneath the bus to where he thinks the most Russian soldiers are standing.

"Keep up the fire! Keeps their heads down!"

Deacon will use his hero point for the grenade attack.

"NOOOOOOO!!!!"

Jenny, after seeing her roommate and friend cut down in front of her, pauses. Lisa's bravery and brashness kindled something inside of her. The scene seems to slow down and Jenny can see what she has to do.

Jenny drops into a shooting crouch behind cover, lines up her .32 and waits for someone to pop his head around the corner or above the window. She plans on shooting at two targets.

Approximately 5:00 PM, Friday, May 1st, 1987; Middle of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge; Oakland, California

Billy Barstowe works the bolt of his Winchester 70 and then pops up, takes quick aim and squeezes the trigger sending a thirty-aught-six slug high into the chest of a Soviet soldier attempting to round the corner of the stopped bus and dropping the man to the ground in an un-moving heap (Guns skill: 4D, Difficulty 12 (short range 10 and cover +2; Roll: 16). Billy lets out a feral victory cry as he drops back down behind the cover cars and works the bolt to chamber another round....

Jenny experiences a moment of 'tunnel vision' as all sounds seem to fade away and her vision narrows and sharpens to the Russian troops firing at her and her companions. Taking aim with her little Beretta .32 pistol, she breathes in and lets it out while squeezing the trigger the first time, putting a round directly between the eyes of a soldier crouching behind a shot-out window on the bus and dropping him out of sight to the bus floor in an instant. She hears her heart beat, sounding like a bass drum in her ears and takes a second breath and lets it out while switching targets and squeezing the trigger again. A soldier rounding the back corner of the bus with an assault rifle about to cut loose on the freedom fighters suddenly feels a strange sting from the left side of his chest and he looks incredulously at the small hole leaking blood on his cammies. The shot had hit him right in the heart and he staggers for a step or two before falling on his side, his weapon having never been fired (Jenny's skill with Hero Point 6D+2 reduced to 5D+2 due to 2 shots being fired; Range is Medium so Difficulty 17 for the target on the bus with a +2 for Cover; 15 for the guy rounding the corner; roll results 18 and 25!)...

Deacon suddenly feels like he's back in his long-ago Army days, practicing throwing grenades and then doing so when it counted against the 'Cong and NVA in Vietnam. His throw/roll is perfect, watching it bounce/roll to the opposite side of the bus and then explode in a cloud of shrapnel, flame, bits of cloth and blood as at least 3 or 4 guys fell to the ground, several screaming in pain while others didn't move after falling (Deacon's Thrown Weapons with Hero Point: 6D, Difficulty 15 for medium range, roll result: 22)....

Raffy dives towards Lisa's body and fights to tug the M-16 out of her cold hands and after he does so, he looks back to see at least 3 wounded Russians on the ground, writhing in pain while clutching wounds in addition to two sets of legs of non wounded soldiers; one at either end of the bus....

From underneath the bridge, Saul moves quickly and precisely placing the detonators in each charge, making sure they were ready to receive the signal that would set off the explosives. That done, he moved the remote that would trigger the charges to his front pocket and pulling out his Uzi, he moved to the ladders and began to climb to the top of the bridge and the sounds of the firefight....

With most of their opposition down on the ground either never to rise again or screaming in pain, the freedom fighters had a split second moment of feeling some savage victory fever when a trio of Russian soldiers did their best to quash it....

First, the only Russian still active on the bus rose up from where he had been crouching down and using a scoped Dragunov Sniper Rifle he fired a shot that left a bullet burn across the top of Jenny Ling's shoulder*, that had it been an inch or two lower might have meant the end for the nurse and nascent freedom fighter...

Then, a second Soviet soldier rounded the front end of the bus with what looked like a longer AK assault rifle with a bipod on the front that Saul could have told them was a RPK Light machinegun; and he cut loose a long burst that sprayed rounds along the length of the cover car that Billy, Jenny and a prone Raffy were taking cover behind. Raffy and Jenny were merely sprayed with bits and pieces of metal and glass that erupted from the cover car as it experienced the hurricane of bullet fire for no lasting damage, but poor Billy took a round in the back of the shoulder and which punched through the front of his chest, just beneath his collar bone in a painful welter of blood**....

Finally, a third Russian soldier rounded the back corner of the Bus and fired a couple of bursts from his AK that smashed into and through the cover car that Deacon was standing behind, with a round going through-and-through the meat of Deacon's left forearm***; causing the Police Sergeant to swear in pain and fury...

*Jenny was merely Grazed (LUCKY!)
**Billy was Wounded; he will be at -1D for all future actions taken (Skill rolls/Attribute rolls lowered by -1D) until treated
***Ditto for Deacon; he is Wounded as well

Raffy was fully prone and thus out of the line of fire. The M-16 is in his hands now and can be utilized this round.
Saul will be climbing the ladder this round and can enter the firefight the following round.
Note: PLENTY of Hero Points remain.....Deacon and Jenny still have 1 and Raffy and Billy have 2 each.....just thought I'd mention it!

Billy Barstowe

Billy is beginning to rethink this whole "freedom-fighter" thing, now that he has A HOLE THROUGH HIS FUCKING BODY! He hasn't been trained for something like this, and his focus on the Soviet soldiers has disappeared. He is bleeding and in pain after being shot, and that is consuming all his attention. Ripping a strip of cloth from the bottom of his shirt, he will stuff it into the hole and apply pressure. He's pretty sure he had seen someone do that on St. Elsewhere or Hill Street Blues, some tv show in the evening.

"Rifle on the bus!" Jenny shouts. She takes a quick look at Billy, sees that he's hit but still up, then takes two shots* at the RPK wielder.

Approximately 5:15 PM, Friday, May 1st, 1987; Middle of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge; Oakland, California

Her focus perfectly zeroed in, Jenny Ling popped up with her little Beretta .32 'Cheetah' pistol wrapped in a two hand grip and she pointed and fired twice, landing both shot into the torso of the Soviet soldier carrying the RPK light machine gun. The soldier slumped down, seemingly folding in half in a fall forward that had him briefly supported by the bus's bumper and then he slipped to lay unmoving on the pavement after a long moment. Jenny let out a breath she didn't even realize she was holding and savored the victory for a moment before she felt a stinging sensation in her ribs and with a whirl of sky and color, she found herself on the ground, on her back clinically diagnosing the pain in her side from what she deduced had been a rifle shot....almost certainly from the soldier on the bus. A couple of cracked, possibly broken ribs....bullet probably deflected off of them and exited the torso...which is good, 'cause otherwise I'd have a collapsed lung or possibly a badly lacerated spleen, she thought to herself in a detached manner, before hissing as the pain finally kicked in*....

Billy Barstowe attempted to staunch his wounds with a torn piece of his shirt and he almost passed out from the pain when he jammed the cloth in the bullet wound, howling out loud involuntarily as he realized quickly that he had NO IDEA what he was doing. Still, the pain helped him bring focus back to the moment and he gathered quickly that he wasn't bleeding particularly badly and he could still move fairly normally and there were still bad guys shooting at him and his friends. He looked up and saw the two cars; his truck and Deacon's Oldsmobile still idling and then he saw Jenny get shot and spin around and fall to the ground on her back. The wound was on her left side, on her ribs and she seemed to be in no immediate nature, but still...the sight of seeing the sweet, kind-hearted nurse and former girlfriend get wounded drove a spear of concern and anger into the young man that made him forget about his wounds for the moment...

Deacon, hissing in pain from his wound, trained his M-16 at the Soviet soldier at the back-end of the bus, the one that had shot him and he put a 3 round burst into the Russian's center-mass and he felt a moment of savage joy at seeing the man fall to the pavement, crying out from his injuries. The distinct CRACK of the Dragunov rifle and the sight of the spinning-to-the-ground-from-the-impact-of-the-hit Jenny drew his attention the well-covered Soviet soldier on the bus**....

Raffy took aim at a set of legs and boots that were closer to the back end of the bus and as he squeezed the soldier, the target fell to the ground, clutching wounds from one of his companions' fire and Cabrera's shots hit the body in the torso, instead of the legs. Almost immediately the man stopped writhing in pain and instead, locked into a rigid, non-moving sprawl...

On the other side of the bus, Saul carefully cleared the side of the bridge, his Uzi at the ready. He saw a sea of shot and torn-up-from-grenade-blast-and-shrapnel Russian bodies and he saw a Soviet soldier wielding an AK take a couple of hits and slump down to join his companions in the ranks of the departed. His attention though was mostly on a single Russian soldier, crouched behind the massive wheel-well of the bus with the receiver end of a radio-phone that connected to the back-pack radio on the body of a fallen Russian soldier nearby and who was yelling desperately into said receiver. Saul didn't know much Russian, but he recognized the words for 'reinforcements' and 'QUICKLY!'. Potentially of more concern was the fact that the same Russian soldier then dropped the radio-phone and picked up a loaded RPG rocket-launcher and began to move around to the front of the bus, clearly intending to the utilize the weapon against his companions. It was obvious the Soviet wasn't aware of him and Saul quickly took aim with his Uzi before he also noticed the sight of a second Russian soldier, with a rifle in his hand, moving crouched-over on board the bus, taking aim towards his friends as well....

*Jenny is Wounded....she would have been Incapacitated, but the spending of the Hero Point really helped out here!

Billy Barstowe

After seeing a woman about whom he cared for deeply at one time fall from a Russian bullet, the young musician realizes that if he can't pull himself together, he and his friends could very well all die right here. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he uses it to focus his anger and hatred towards the communist forces invading his homeland. Well, it's now or never he thinks to himself. Bringing the rifle to his shoulder, he pops up, spotting a soldier on the bus. Exhaling, he squeezes the trigger...

Billy will spend a Hero Point.

Don't mind at all. It's what I would have done anyways.

The adrenaline coursing through Deacon's vein's prevents him from feeling the pain of the gunshot would in his arm, but from previous experience he knew he would pay the price later. For now though, there were more immediate concerns to deal with...namely that Russian soldier with Dragunov. Popping up from behind cover, the ex-soldier waits for his shot...

If the soldier with the sniper rifle is visible, Deacon will take a shot. If the Russian soldier is behind cover, Deacon will wait for him to pop us before shooting. He'll use his remaining Hero Point to go for the "bullet through the forehead" head shot.

Approximately 5:15-5:17 PM, Friday, May 1st, 1987; Middle of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge; Oakland, California

Billy Barstowe, anger and adrenaline coursing through his system, pops up over the top of the shattered car he was using for cover and quickly sights down the end of his Winchester rifle. Lining up with the croched over form of the Russian sniper on the bus, he takes a breath and lets it go while squeezing the trigger, just like his Dad had taught him many years ago. The Rifle kicked into his shoulder, the round sped down the barrel, through the remnants of one of the passenger windows on the bus and into the center mass of the Soviet soldier, causing him to drop his Dragunov and stagger back and into a standing position. Billy calmly racked the bolt back, ejecting the spent cartridge and then sliding it forward, putting another roun into the chamber…

Jenny Ling carefully crawled/pulled herself over to a position where she had her back against the wheel of one of the shot-up cars they were using as cover and she she hissed in pain as he used her hand to put pressure on her bullet wound as she started to mentally go through the steps of how to handle such a wound so that it didn't get any worse….

Deacon Hays took careful aim with his M-16 at the sniper on the bus when a loud rifle shot cracked from the singer kid's position and wouldn't you know it, he hit the Russian marksman! The Soviet sniper dropped his Rifle and was half-standing as he staggered back from his wound and Hays didn't waste his opportunity…with careful aim, he put a .223 round straight into the Russian's skull and dropped him down and out of sight, permanently….

Raffy Cabrera popped up with his M-16 ready to rock-and-roll, but he didn't see any targets right away, only catching the sight of a Russian coming around the front side of the bus with a ROCKET LAUNCHER at the last second. With a curse in Spanish, he fired a burst from the assault rifle, but the unfamiliar weapon must have thrown him off as his shots sailed just wide of the Soviet soldier…

Saul Silverman saw the Russian RPG wielder start to make his way around the front of the bus, ready to put a rocket into his friends' position and he wasn't about to let that happen. Taking careful aim with his Uzi, he put a pair of bursts into the center of the man's back and the Russian stiffened up and fell in a heap to the ground. At about the same time, he saw the Russian on the bus collapse from multiple shots and not get up. It looked like all immediate threats had been dealt with….

The Bridge was suddenly shockingly quiet……nothing moved and only a few pain-filled moans could be heard from a couple of badly wounded Russian soldiers by the Freedom Fighters….

Billy Barstowe

Hearing Saul's words, Billy doesn't waste any time. He helps Jenny to her feet and gets her to the truck, helping her get into the cab. He then goes around to the driver's side, climbing behind the wheel, waiting for anyone else to get in so they can leave.

Deacon runs over and hoists Lisa's limp body to his shoulder. "Come on raffy! We don't got time for that! We need to get out the hell of here and blow this damn bridge!" He yells as he runs back to the vehicles.

Jenny smiles weakly at Billy.
"Thanks Billy. Looks like we have something else in common now: getting shot by russians on a bridge."
