I don't know when the post was first published (probably sometime in November of 2017), but, sadly, that has almost become a reality with the introduction of the current season in 5e. Instead of four hours to level up, it's eight hours (or two, four hour long sessions). At least for tier 1 characters (levels 1-4). For tier 2 (levels 5-10), I'm pretty sure the requirement doubles -- instead of two sessions, you need four (or 16 hours).
Tier 1 requires 4 hours, Tier 2-4 is 8. But you do have the option of using slow progression, which halves your rewards, but allows you to potentially unlock more magic items, as you'll be playing more adventures.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.
