[Promotion] new free issue of the Mjölnir RPG fanzine

#1 Post by Nordbo »

Inspired by early White Dwarf plus the s-f and punk fanzine explosion, Sweden's first RPG fanzine Mjölnir was launched in 1980. At first heavily AD&D-biased, the fanzine also covered Traveller & Runequest. Six print issues were published (in Swedish) between 1980 and 1982.

And now, it's back - and free! The latest issue, No. 7, is available in both Swedish and English, and contains:
  • A sneak preview of En Ö i Etern, Sweden's first sword & planet module for the D&D-compatible Svärd & Svartkonst RPG
  • Special feature: The story of Wizard, Sweden's first ever Fantasy/games store, instrumental in bringing AD&D to Sweden
  • "Hobbits in space" - A comprehensive AD&D<---->OSR game compatibilty cross-check chart
  • Gearcore - "magic items" for SF games
  • Yellow Submarine theme:
  • Monsters and creatures from Yellow Submarine adapted for Mutant Future
  • Interview with fantasy illustrator Joyce Hargreaves (who worked as an animator on Yellow Submarine)
  • The Smithy - magic items for AD&D and related games
  • The Wizard's hat - AD&D/OSR news items
  • Wilderness encounters for the Swedish RPG Blood & Bronze
  • Pool of the Standing Stones Revisited - quirky, combat-free remix of classic White Dwarf AD&D module
  • Board game review
  • Orion - Traveller section
  • Ads for Swedish OSR games and the upcoming new edition of Runequest
Welcome to download your free PDF copy at: http://mjolnirfanzine.yolasite.com
(where you may also download all previous issues for free - but they're in Swedish)

And now, issue 8 is here - full of old school (and new school) material for fantasy and SF gamers:

• Sneak preview: Ki Khanga - roleplaying in Africa
• Spa Vapid - an eclectic, rule-less health resort rpg milieu
• The Palace of the Akkadian Emissary - exclusive (and OSR-adaptable) adventure for Blood & Bronze
• The Scientist - an alternative Career for classic Traveller
• Tunguska - a permafrost adventure for AD&D 1e and compatibles

and much, much more.

This magazine is good stuff, and has an interesting little AD&D adventure in it's pages this issue.

Thanks!
--Ron--
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Issue 9 of the old school RPG fanzine Mjölnir from Sweden is out now! In the latest issue you'll find:

• A vintage AD&D 1e adventure (from 1981, never before published)
• An alternative class for AD&D 1e: The Agitator (suitable for E g City State-type campaigns)
• review of RuneQuest Quickstart
• Chinese monsters for AD&D/OSRIC/Clones
• Scenarios for rule-less settings
• a specially written breakneck solo game set in outer space

and more.

Download your free PDF in English, here:

- where you may also find the Swedish language version, which contains even more exclusive content, for the Swedish RPGs Dunder & Drakar, and Svärd & Svartkonst.

ANOTHER 1E module -- Ronnie is happy!
I can't wait to read it.

The Agitator was an interesting class. Thanks for posting and for adding to the quality OSR, and free, material out there!
