Re: Chapter 8: Necropolis of Eternity
After being scolded once already, Xorzen decides to keep his distance from the remaining magic items, allowing someone else to distribute them any way they see fit. The quiet monk has never coveted any possession for himself before, and he isn't about to start doing it now in front of a bunch of strangers.
He takes his rest with the others, spending most of is down time in silent contemplation. He stands when the others are ready, stretches his sore body for several minutes, and readies himself for whatever the new day is about to bring.

Re: Chapter 8: Necropolis of Eternity
"Any markings on them fancy parchments say anything about opening magicked doors?" Roan, Son of Rune asks, returning Kiri's bow with a nod of his head. He then openly stares as Zahra limbers up from her sleep.

Re: Chapter 8: Necropolis of Eternity
"It's almost as if you possessed some magical second sight, Roan. ( ) There is, in fact, a magic here for opening portals. As well as much other magic, both arcane and divine," says Kiri. "To learn it properly would take an entire day or more of quiet study, but if the way is indeed barred to us, I could attempt to cast it directly from this scroll. Though it is perhaps a bit beyond my understanding. It's hard to tell without trying."hedgeknight wrote:"Any markings on them fancy parchments say anything about opening magicked doors?" Re: Chapter 8: Necropolis of Eternity
After a moment of standing around wondering why no one is doing anything, Kiri says ”Oh,” and begins reciting the arcane language from the scroll. The sounds are unintelligible, but the feeling is one of doors, cabinets, compartments opening and revealing their contents.

Zahra
Zahra notices Roan's attention, and responds with a blank, slightly puzzled stare.

Garrin readies himself for whatever might lie beyond the door. "You have my thanks," he indicates to Kiri. He waits for the magic to open the door.

Shrine of the Entombed Dead (38), Fourth Tier of the Great Pyramid
Lost City of Khemsa, Forgotten Kingdom of Verulia, Great Eastern Desert, the World of Hyboria
Day Three. Dawn. 15th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia
Choosing to ignoring the fearsome curse engraved upon it, Kiri faces the door. The enchanter of the East intones arcane syllables of power from the massacred wizards' papyrus.
The sealed portal that blocks the explorers' path flashes bright with sorcerous energy.
Click.
Creeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaak...
Ancient hinges groan. The occult light fades. The unopenable door opens.
Cold, stale air emanates from the widening doorway.
The flames of the twin braziers that frame the door illuminate a stone-tiled chamber beyond, and a lone cyclopean pillar.
At the edge of the flickering light, the shadows silently undulate around the towering column.

Zahra
When the wizard begins his spellcasting, Zahra makes sure her helmet is in place and grips her blade a little tighter. Her movements show she's nervous about what may be behind that door.
When the door opens, she waits for the space of two breaths, then steps to the doorway to look around without entering the new chamber. She whistles, listening for the echo to try and guage the size of the room.

Garrin also enters the room, sword drawn and shield ready, alert to any danger. If he sees no immediate threats, he will ask Mitra for the guidance to detect evil within the room.

DM:
The echo of Zahra's whistle suggests a vast hall out there in the darkness.
Garrin, son of lost Atlantis, unmasks no hidden evil lurking in wait within those pitch shadows.

"We shouldn't dilly-dally here," says Kiri. "I'm not sure how long this spell will keep it open... um... now might be a good time to try out that pole." He looks to Loche as he puts the scroll carefully back in the case and prepares to go through the portal, once again hefting his shield and trident, his sword strapped to his back. "Anyone feel cursed? I don't feel anything," he adds.

Re: Chapter 8: Necropolis of Eternity
Third through the door, Roan, Son of Rune has his new axe in one hand and an unlit torch in the other. "We gonna need some light in this place," he murmurs, peering into the shadows. The Vanir kneels and quickly retrieves flint and steel, lighting the torch after a couple of strikes.
Roan stands and holds the torch aloft, attempting to drive out the shadows of the great room.

Re: Chapter 8: Necropolis of Eternity
Xorzen is pleased to be allowed to keep the ring that he tried on initially. He bows low in thanks to all around him as he slips it back on his finger.
The monk awaits his turn at entering the newly opened doorway, hoping that it is the secret cache the group seeks. He speaks with Kiri as the others enter in front of him, shaking his head no at the mans question as he looks around for something to wedge into the doorway.
"I feel no such curse, but that is a powerful spell indeed, friend. I wonder what other surprises thow will reveal to us as we delve into the heart of our underworld."

Arthfael wordlessly follows the others into the room.

Zahra
The albino Amazon steps toward the edge of the lit area, her sword in hand. <<To the northern edge, near the column>> She strains her red-tinged eyes, looking for something more solid than shadows and echoes.
A brief thought of 'protecting her sisters' crosses her mind, and she smiles, realizing that she has begun to accept this group of strange men as "sisters."

Fourth Tier of the Great Pyramid
Lost City of Khemsa, Forgotten Kingdom of Verulia, Great Eastern Desert, the World of Hyboria
Day Three. Early morning. 15th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia
The seal on the door is sundered.
Roan the barbarian gets a torch alight. From out of thin air, Mako of the East conjures more magical illumination. At Kiri's suggestion, Loche carefully prods the floor with a long pole. It takes time, but a safe path is established.
Defying the ancient curse of the Pharaoh, the explorers of the Pyramid slowly enter the great hall. Their cautious footfalls echo across the ageless tiles. The air is cold and stale. How many millennia have passed since light last parted these timeless shadows?
A row of towering pillars emerges from the receding pitch.
The hieroglyphs and images adorning the walls and columns here chronicle the peerless deeds of the great Pharaoh's army. Amethu, Xorzen and Zahra read of loyalty unfailing and glory undimmed. The three feuding Verulians are sharply reminded of a bygone age when the sects of their gods were united in purpose instead of riven into the warring factions of today.
The light reveals an ornate door set into the eastern wall but much of this vast chamber is still shrouded in darkness and mystery.

Zahra
I'd suggest we make sure this chamber is empty and _safe_ before we move on. Zahra is as polite as she can manage, knowing that she is barely more than an intruder in this group.

Xorzen stays silent and moves to the west wall. He begins checking it for any ancient secrets.
He moves north towards the door as he checks out the wall, floor, and, if he can, the ceiling as well.
