Does Garrin have a torch to light the pyre?
I think he does. If so:
Garrin blesses the body of his friend. He is about to begin his benediction, but realizes mid-syllable that Roan, son of Rune was not one for fine words. He was a man of action, of blood and sweat, and if necessary, of fire.

Garrin lights the pyre, praying for the soul of his companion.

Obviously Garrin takes any useful items like rope, oil, or rations off the body before burning it.

The Hall of Heroes (31), Fourth Tier of the Great Pyramid
Lost City of Khemsa, Forgotten Kingdom of Verulia, Great Eastern Desert, the World of Hyboria
Day Three. Late Morning. 15th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia

Pious Garrin of Argos silently prays for the soul of Roan, son of Rune. Then he sets the bonfire ablaze.

Within the roaring flames, the Vanir barbarian joins the honored dead of this hall of heroes.

Garrin and Mako reflect upon the belongings of Roan that they had set aside. All that remains of his life is a half filled waterskin, smoked giant scorpion meat, torches, a pouch of gold pieces, a knife taken off the corpse of Shevata the Sly, a hand ax, a sprig of wolfsbane, a hunting spear, a greatsword of tempered Vanir steel, and a masterful battle ax (+1?) harvested from the Cult of Sutekh genocide on Tier Three.

The masked sorcerer Amethu continues following the inscribed walls that now flicker with the yellow light of the barbarian's funeral pyre.

Image

He finds no secret passages yet.

Mountainous Kiri slams his immense frame into the door in the eastern wall. The gigantic Easterner can't budge it. Lithe Zahra the amazon asks him to step back. She examines the door, lowers her shoulder and breaks it down as Kiri looks on.

It opens onto an ancient corridor, richly embellished with themes of death and of life everlasting.

The empty hallway ventures deeper into the tombs; east and then south. (see map)

Meanwhile, Zahra's departure had plunged the bone crypt into shadow. Loche gets a torch alight and watches as Xorzen pours his water into the sacred obsidian font whose hieroglyphs venerate mighty Xuthalhotep, pharaoh of pharaohs.

In the font of the dead, Xorzen's water doesn't reflect the torchlight. Its surface is smooth and still as black onyx.

Kiri blinks, looks down at his body, them back up at Zahara retreating down the hallway. ”Hmmm,” he says and shrugs. He then pokes his head inside the door and looks around. ”Careful, Zahara,” he says. ”See anything?”

Wondering if he has just imbued his water with some magical properties, the quiet monk looks at Loche from behind his mask. He dips his flask back into the font to try to recover some of the dark water, keeping a sharp eye on the pile of bones as he does so.

Zahra

Obviously, I just finished the job...

I see nothing dangerous- yet. But I suggest we wait and watch this door until others of the crew can join us.

Zahra stands in the doorway, facing into the corridor. She has her mace still in hand, and appears ready to wait forever, if needs be.

As respectfully as he can, Garrin gathers up the bones of Roan, son of Rune in a sack or something if he has one (?). "You will be buried under the sky, Roan, son of Rune. You shall not be left in this accursed place." He places the remains of his friend, carefully, in his pack.

Of Roan's belongings, Garrin takes the torches, waterskin, and scorpion meat.

The grisly task done, Garrin joins his companions in exploring this vast chamber. He also checks the remains of his enemies, in particular the general, for any items of value.

The Hall of Heroes (31), Fourth Tier of the Great Pyramid
Lost City of Khemsa, Forgotten Kingdom of Verulia, Great Eastern Desert, the World of Hyboria
Day Three. Midday. 15th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia

In the sundered bone crypt, as Loche and the skulls of countless dead men look on, Xorzen of Osorus continues his necromantic alchemy. The pale acolyte dips his flask into the icy jet elixir, recovering his water back from the mysterious font of the dead.

Meanwhile, Roan burns.

In time, his body is consumed by the hungry flames. Black smoke sifts into the vents ingeniously woven within the motifs near the ceiling by the ancient architects of the Great Pyramid. Outside, the sweet smell of cooked human flesh is once more carried on the wind.

Once they are cooled, Garrin of Argos reverently gathers the fire blackened bones of his friend and stores them in the barbarian's pack in accordance with his dying wishes (+33 lbs to encumbrance). The paladin explores the remains of the other felled warriors, finding helms, shields, swords, bows, arrows and spears of ancient Verulian design. The son of Atlantis removes his gauntlet and retrieves a stone amulet of the All Seeing Eye from around the broken neck of the dead battalion's general.

Image

Enigmatic Amethu continues walking the perimeter of this towering hall that memorializes the victorious dead of lost Verulia. The masked wizard still finds no hidden portals secreted among the ornate hieroglyphs.

Kiri and Zahra stand waiting in the open doorway of a new passage embellished with ancient murals of the gods readying Xuthalhotep for eternal life.

No fresh new horror comes screaming out of the corridor's timeless shadows. Yet.

Kiri will make no move to explore the new hallway until the others make their way over. ”Zahra found a new hallway.” he says. ”Anyone interested in taking a look? We should stick together. Loche, where’s that pole of yours?”

Xorzen steps back from the font, storing the black water away for later. He answers the peculiar sounding thief as best he can.

"I know not what it is, nor what it might do. Though, in this hall of death, I doubt any good......do...... do you think we should try drinking some of it?"

Mako:

Out of Roan's possessions not taken he adds to his pack the pouch of gold, knife taken off the corpse of Shevata the Sly, a hand ax, and sprig of wolfsbane to be buried with the warrior. "Not to worry warrior I will make sure you have a purse of coin to pay the boatsman and weapons for protection on your journey." He then looks to Garrin as he holds aloft the amulet. "I don't have any such incantations that will reveal it's secrets. Amethu?"

Amethu pauses in his search of the walls. His interest in his search is quickly eclipsed by the idea of a new magical item. Gliding over to the amulet he examines the shape, the markings, possible intent. With no readily apparent answers of it's possible purpose, he holds his hands over the amulet and, with a word from under his mask, "apokaluptó" probes the ether for possible indications of the item's magical pedigree...

In the labyrinthine tomb of dusty and engraved cyclopean walls, the crypt raiders have repelled the first wave of half-living guardians that stand between them and the fabled treasure of the Pharaoh of Pharaohs. Their aim is to wield those ensorcelled artifacts against Zargoth, self-styled demon god of the post apocalyptic ruins of the lost city.

Amethu of Uthoth locates another shut portal, hidden only by the shadows in the vast chamber's northeast corner. (see map) The masked sorcerer joins his fellow Verulian and sworn enemy, Zahra the amazon, who stands at the broken door to another corridor into elder times.

Then Amethu harkens to Garrin and inspects a charm the Atlantean recovered from the massacre of bones and splintered shields. The grand magus weaves an ancient incantation and his mystical awareness expands within his mind's eye.

Amethu is granted arcane and oblique understanding. He learns the Amulet of the All-Seeing Eye was a gift given by Xuthalhotep to his favorite general, countless ages ago. The ancient charm bestows insight upon the wearer. (+1 to Wisdom)

Meanwhile, in the chamber of carefully stacked bones and skulls...

...Loche the Pict tests the obsidian bowl by dropping his bone dagger into it. He watches breathlessly for some reaction.

Nothing happens.

Xorzen of Osorus wonders aloud if they should drink of the font of the dead.

Xorzen decides to not partake of the black liquid. He moves to the stacks of bones, looking them over carefully, trying to find any evidence of something out of place. He tries to peer behind them, to see if they cover anything along the wall.

Looking back to the thief, he nods towards the opening.

"We should rejoin the group. Perhaps I can talk the amazon into trying some of the liquid."

He heads towards the others.
