Chapter 7: In Search of the Pharaoh's Tomb
Re: Chapter 7: In Search of the Pharaoh's Tomb
Amethu is silent, but he makes his agreement with the others known by slowly looking away, in contempt, from the sand-room.

Re: Chapter 7: In Search of the Pharaoh's Tomb
With his head down, Loche reflects:
Let us lea thaim tae thair peace. Thay kin save countless bides servin` as a monument tae th' deedly nature o' this steid.
Translation: Let us leave them to their peace. They can save countless lives serving as a monument to the deadly nature of this place.
He quietly joins the others in respectfully walking away.

Re: Chapter 7: In Search of the Pharaoh's Tomb
"You gettin' hungry, Cimmerian?" asks Roan, Son of Rune, giving Arthfael a long look. "Plenty to eat now that the sand has receded. Feel free to help yourself while the rest o' us try to find Zargoth and put an end to his sorry ass."
Spitting on the floor, the Vanir follows Garrin down the corridor.

The Hall of The Serpent. Third Tier of the Great Pyramid
Lost City of Khemsa, Forgotten Kingdom of Verulia, Great Eastern Desert, the World of Hyboria
Day Two. Late afternoon. 14th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia
None of the explorers take the bait. They leave the tempting treasure in the open jaws of a deathtrap; in the possession of its dead victims.
They tread east down the age-worn corridors of antiquity, ancient shadows parting before their advancing light.
At the feet of the cyclopean idol of Sutekh, the adventurers look south and see the monolithic portal to the revolving corridor is now shut.
They continue creeping forward on the fire opal floors until the front line risks enough of their heads to peer around the easternmost corner. They find the hallway ends at another shut door venerating Sutekh.

Zahra nods in agreement as the little man speaks his warning. "Sutekh's realm holds only death, not aid or answers. I say again, let us return to the center and choose another path."

Garrin nods. "Agreed," he says. "Although I thought the 'serpentine' path was a clue, I will not knowingly risk more of our lives at this door unless there is no other choice. Let us return to the center."
With that, he leads the group back toward the center of the great hall.

"Maybe someone who knows what to look for could check to see if there is a trap and what its nature is before we decide our path," says Kiri, making no move to follow Garrin until a majority of the party have made their opinion known.

Day Two. Late afternoon. 14th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia
The magical illumination of Mako's staff is eclipsed by shadow as the conjurer's wondrous enchantment expires.
Most of the explorers of the Great Pyramid fear another trap. They retrace their steps back to the rotating hallway. But the massive stone door to that peerless marvel of engineering is shut.
They press the lone hieroglyphic button to summon the corridor. No rumble grinds deep beneath their feet. No door yawns open before them. They press the button again. Nothing happens.
Amethu and Zahra are shocked. They know that their sects, the magi and the amazons, regularly monitor the rotating corridor, using it as a defensive barrier as much as a conveyance. They have no memory of the venerable device of the ancient architects having ever been broken.
To the northeast, Loche complies with Kiri's request and searches the new door for traps with nimble, expert fingers. The Pict thief reports his assessment, "She's clean."

Re: Chapter 7: In Search of the Pharaoh's Tomb
Kiri walks to the intersection in front of the statue, examining the ceiling as he goes. He always forgets to examine the ceiling. You never know what could be lurking up there.
"The thei... er... trap expert says it's clean," he says to those gathered down the hall. "Um... what are you guys doing?"

Re: Chapter 7: In Search of the Pharaoh's Tomb
Zahra is glad that her helm hides the widening of her eyes, and hopes no one--especially not that haughty hawk-mask--hears the sharp intake of her breath, in shock at the failure of the revolving corridor.
"Those sounds we heard, after the sand trap..." she says slowly. "Somehow, it must have altered the mechanism." She feels icy tendrils of fear caressing her spine, and wills them away. "It would seem we have little choice but to face the other door."

Mako:
As the light fades from Mako's staff the Khitan artifice taps the end of his staff onto the ground trying to extend the light life with no avail.
"Lights gone. Door won't open. We seem to be trapped in this chamber. Perhaps the god are sending us a message to rest?"

Xorzen shakes his head when the door doesn't open. He moves back to the statue, looking around it for any hidden levers that might activate the door again.
If nothing can be spotted from the ground, and he can find decent hand and footholds, he begins to climb up to search the elevated areas.
Climb Walls [1d100] = 88 (86%) nice start

Quiet Amethu thinks to himself: Perhaps some malign dweomer has sealed us in. He expends a detect magic on the great door.

Day Two. Late afternoon. 14th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia
At Kiri's request, Loche the Pict deftly verifies the mysterious door to be free of traps. Kiri the Kambujan informs the others, who stand before the sealed portal of the inoperative revolving corridor.
Zahra of Sekhmet swallows her surprise and fear at the ancient engine's failure and says, "It would seem we have little choice but to face the other door."
Mako the Khitan counters that they might need to rest.
Amethu of Uthoth weaves a subtle spell to discern if any insidious, sorcerous machinations have ensnared them. The wizard sees that none have.
Xorzen of Osorus searches the stone statue of Sutekh for hidden release levers secreted by the devious architects of the Great Pyramid. Finding none, he scales a wall adorned with carvings of the god of death.
Suddenly, Xorzen looses his grip and falls to the fire opal floor, sprawled in a heap at the feet of the graven image of Sutekh. (-2hp) Fortunately, he is not seriously harmed.
But the explorers are faced with the decision of what to do next.
