I hear you. Buying a house in the spring/early summer is always a mess. In Ithaca there are always bidding wars, leading people to buying homes out of their actual price range.

Good luck!

Thanks.

I am all too familiar with bidding wars. I got involved in one on the property we are technically under contract with, and ended up paying just over list value. The house last night, while not significantly less money than the first property, would have saved us a LOT of money per month (e.g. lower taxes, lower association fee, plus it was within walking distance of a train station so we could have potentially downsized to a one car family). Knowing this, we were prepared to offer well over their asking price, and presented our offer with an escalation clause -- knowing they already had two offers (they actually had three), we went in at full ask, and told them we would beat any offer they could prove they received by $1,000.

They're actually concerned that the house won't appraise for enough to cover the offer they did accept, so our willingness to offer even more money wasn't really a factor. Sadly.

We officially walked away from house we had an offer on, so we're back at square one. Things are going to be rough for a while, but I will do my best to keep up.

good luck. House buying/selling is certainly stressful enough, even when things go smoothly.

Oh, man. That sucks all around. We just closed the sale of our house today, so I heard your story and shuddered to think about what would have happened had it turned out there had been a critter in our attic we didn't know about. I'd definitely think twice as a buyer, though. We walked away from a house several years ago because of the electrical wiring. Quotes from our inspector: "No professional has touched the electrical in this house for at least 30 years" and "I'm surprised it hasn't burned down yet." We ran from that one and got the house we just sold. We liked it.

Good luck finding a new place.

Thanks, guys, and congratulations on selling your house, Zhym.

Moving is one of my least favorite things (ever), but our plans involve settling down for probably the next ten years (until the youngest graduates high school), so this will be the last time for a long time. Unfortunately, we're staying here in Illinois.

Anyway, about the game, is everyone ready to leave town?
Or is there still any unfinished business?

Okay, unless I hear otherwise:
  • I will fast-forward until the 26th, when the armor everyone ordered will be ready. We won't role-play that out, I'll just wrap it up in an intro during my next update.
  • I will return the group to the tree cave.

Any objections or last minute business?

I have updated the "footer" in my update post with what I believe are the most updated information (e.g. new armor, memorized spells, etc...). Please validate, and make sure your character sheets are also up-to-date.

It seems so. So far, I have heard anything otherwise.

Did everyone who got new armor roll a 1? That's hilarious.

We should head back for a refitting. The proprietor obviously was overwhelmed by the order, hired inexperienced people and botched the job. We should have consulted Angie's List, or something.

Update: Okay, so we successfully entered into contract on a home last night/earlier today, which should help with at least some of the odd hours and stress levels. Now the actual packing can formally begin, but I don't see this causing too many issues in my ability to update the game, as I suspect a majority of it will be done over the weekends, and not at night. The home inspection (which blew up our last deal), is slated for Thursday morning, so fingers crossed.

Anyway, hopefully things can get back to "normal" around here... at least until the second week of August when we're scheduled to close and actually move in.
