Keebler looks for an armorer, hoping to trade his studded leather armor for banded mail. He'll also try to sell the chain and shortbow.
Assuming he can buy and sell everything he's looking to buy and sell and that Keebler can get 50% of book value for what he's selling, that'd be:

Banded mail: 85 gp
Used studded leather: -15 gp
Net cost: 60 gp

Selling:
Used chain: 15 gp
Used Shortbow: 12.5 gp
Total: 27.5 gp distributed among the group.
Total:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tippin also hopes for a place to sell things, including upgrading his ill-fitting chain armor to banded mail, but he's not sure to go about selling the thieves tools. How does one find a buyer for those things without giving the local constabulary the wrong idea about your line of work?
Then he has it—bartenders know everything!
"Anyone want to join me for a pint?" he asks. "There has to be a tavern here, right? No proper town can do without a tavern!"
With the assumptions above, that'd be 85 gp for banded -35 for used chain = 50 gp.
Canun will amble about town, looking for any established places of worship. He also looks for places to post notices, as if in a town square or the like.
Junius listens to the armorer answer, as he needs to go there himself. However, setting his gear in a room and drinking an ale does sound more urgent.
Rainey
As they walk along, Rainey will ask one of the peasant men how to find the Sheriff. Given the proximity of this place to a goblin den, there must either be an organized defense against the goblins, or they must have a serious problem with them, so it's probably worth asking.
He'll also ask where the local ... Baron (?) lives.
On the map, I can identify that white seems to be buildings. There's a church at the top of a hill. There's a bunch of tilled land to the southeast. There's a cluster of buildings/ a town square which seems to be across from a cemetery. What are all the little brown clusters? Are those the back yards of the peasant houses?
Day 3: Exploring Town
A pair of heavily armed guards intercept the group as they approach the northern gate of the new and improved Roganter. "State your business," a mustachioed human says sternly, while his companion overlooks the exchange. Satisfied with the groups' response, they don't interfere with your progress, and even agree to answer questions posed to them before passing. Rainey inquires about the Baron, and mentions the goblins, which the guards simply shrug off, but an anger can be seen in their eyes. "Sir Nevin Forwarty is... away," the first guard says of the towns leader. "He's attending the services of his assassinated younger brother," the second adds. The group can't help but make the connection -- Forwarthy was the last name of the bailiff of Avocar, Sir Dergil Forwarty, whose assassination led to your banishment. "There are two inns here," the guards share. "The Rusty Dragon and The White Deer... a group your size might have better luck at the later."
MIla, studying the locals as she enters, notices that everyone appears to be fairly well-off, with many displaying signs of affluence.
"You can also check out Savah's Armory," they add after overhearing a few of you mentioning needing an upgrade. They also give you directions to other locations where you should be able to part with your wares.
The group agrees to split up. Those not looking to buy or sell something look to secure rooms in The White Deer, while those with items to sell, or armor to upgrade, head out to the various locations the guards recommended. Everyone is to meet back at the inn once their business has been conducted.
HOUSING
The White Deer is a three story building, it's lowest level built of stone while its upper floors are composed of fine wood, and the front entrance is flanked on either side by twin deer statues of white birch. Those that enter are greeted by Belor Hemlock, the proprietor of the establishment. Private rooms, which are spacious and clean, are available for 1 gold piece per night. He mumbles something about Ameiko forcing him to keep his prices low, but he refuses to elaborate.
BUYING & SELLING
Savah, who runs the armory bearing her name, informs Keebler that, with her current workload, it will take her four days to complete a suit of banded mail -- "Fifty gold, due up front, will guarantee the work" she says. Assuming the elf agrees, she collects the down payment and has one of her assistants begin taking the necessary measurements. She agrees to buy the length of chain, but has no interest in the used suit of studded leather, but is confident they would be able to part with it at Rovanky's Tannery. She was right. "Same terms for you," she says to Tippin, regarding his armor request. "Fifty gold. Four days." she reiterates. She is willing to purchase his ill-fitting chain mail. She spies Junius who hasn't made a formal request. "Anything for you?" she asks the dwarf?
LOCAL RELIGION
Just next to The White Deer is a large cathedral that appears to be of new construction, which catches Canun's attention. Across town to the south is an open marketplace, where notices could be posted. Additionally, besides the two inns, there are a number of taverns found in Roganter as well, which might serve as good posting locations.
Zhym's assumptions are correct. All purchases can be made at book value, and all used items can be sold for 50% of book value.
Busy with RL right now so I cannot look at the book for values. AdaRue could be fine with her studded leather apron for our next delve. She's been happy to hide behind everyone else, anyhow. Would that give Junius enough cash for a better suit of armor? AdaRue would be happy to help her friends out.
Mila
While she listens to the guards she hides a bit trying to looks small when the mention of the ruling lord here is the brother of the one that took her in as a ward and whose murder they were scapegoated for.
Armory
Once she is in the Armory with the others, she will step up to the Smith and offer up her 5 daggers. "Would you consider buying these?" she ask meekly.
Tanner
She will offer the Wolf Skin. "I spend a lot of time cleaning it. Would you be interested in something like this?"
She will also inquire with both about where she may be able to sell OmDog's Spellbook and where she could possibly buy better clothing or magic supplies.
Junius asks AduRue to borrow or be gifted 35 gp to improve his armor to banded. If not, 20 for chain.
Rainey
Rainey will stop by the taverns, to see if they cater to different groups, and find out which might be better for a party (are they wary of outsiders, is there much energy, etc)
He also wants to go by the Cathedral to see about having some prayers said for our fallen comrades.
Day 3: Exploring Town
The group continues to explore the town.
HOUSING
Belor Hemlock confirms he has enough rooms available, and asks how many will ultimately be needed.
BUYING & SELLING
"Didn't you listen, son?" Savah responds, with a hint of joking in her voice, when Junius inquires about selling his leather armor. "Take that hide to Rovanky," she adds. "And take those to the smithy; maybe he could melt down the steel for something," she says to Mila about her daggers.
Stopping at the smithy first, since it's is on the way, Mila is able to sell the set of daggers for 7 gold pieces. Their business concluded, Junius, Mila, and anyone other escorts take a trip to Rovanky's Tannery, where the tanner agrees to purchase the dwarf's leather. "A fine job you did, considering the conditions," he says, admiring the wolf pelt Mila presents him with. "How's two gold?" he asks, then agrees to 3 gold pieces after negotiations complete.
Junius and others return to the armory and the dwarf places an order for the best type of armor he can afford. Savah grumbles about needing to bring on extra workers, but guarantees anyone that purchases a new set of armor that their suits will be ready in the promised four days.
INFORMATION GATHERING
Mila accompanies Rainey as the magic user puruses the various local taverns like he would a stack of books in a library. They spy several -- Cracktooth's Tavern, Fatman's Feedbag, The Hagfish, and Risa's Place -- and report back the details.
  • Cracktooth's Tavern: A particular favorite of patrons of the Sandpoint Theater, Cracktooth’s Tavern is always full after the latest show at the nearby playhouse lets out. A large stage gives actors, singers, and anyone else the opportunity to show their stuff.
  • Fatman's Feedbag: If the Hagfish is Sandpoint’s most popular tavern, Fatman’s Feedbag is its most notorious. Bar fights are common, and the Sheriff routinely has to pay a visit two or three times a week to sort them out when they grow particularly violent or loud. The majority of the clientele here are scoundrels or less-than-reputable sailors.
  • The Hagfish: One of Sandpoint’s most popular taverns, especially among fishermen and gamblers, and is also Sandpoint’s best bet for a good old-fashioned seafood meal. The Hagfish gets its name from the large glass aquarium that sits behind the bar, the home of a repellent hagfish that Jargie, the owner, affectionately calls Norah. Hanging from a nail next to Norah’s tank is a leather pouch bulging with coins: prize money for anyone who can drink down a single tankard of “water” scooped from Norah’s tank.
  • Risa's Place: Known for its spiced potatoes and cider, this tavern is a favorite of the locals if only because its out-of-the-way location ensures strangers rarely come by.
Mila draws strange looks when she inquires about selling a spellbook, but learns that Chask, at The Curious Goblin may be interested. She is directed to The Feathered Serpent or Bottled Solutions for magicial items for sale, and to Vernah's Fine Clothing, or possibly the General Store, for any clothing needs.
LOCAL RELIGION
Canun and Rainey pay a visit to the large cathedral where they pay their respect to their fallen companions. A service is being performed at the time, so little information is found out about the place, and a future visit will be required if such information is still sought.
The fire beetle gland Tippin was carrying expires as the group conducts its latest round of inquiries.
----
You guys (onlyme, AdaRue, etc...) work out the details (in the new OOC thread) of how much Junius armor is able to afford. Book prices for purchases; half book price for sales (e.g. 3 gold pieces for worn leather armor).
Is the group going to just wait in town for the four days while the armor is being crafted?
Mila
Heads to The Curious Goblin and looks inside for Chask. She will enter in quietly and carefully. She will look around to see what kind of things are inside, ever cautious of new and strange places. The one benefit of being a coward is that you are rarely surprised in a dangerous place since you consider every place a dangerous place... If he reveals himself and everything seems on the up and up she will take out the book to show him, and even offer him the cipher to read it to see what he may offer her for it. She will also be curious of what kinds of things he has for sale in his shop.
I'll avoid Canun interrupting the church service to keep the other players from getting pissed at me for getting the PCs kicked out of town.
Canun stands silently at the back of the cathedral, certainly disapproving of how poorly the service is conducted. He tries to glean which deity they are worshiping. Then he heads to buy a mule or pack horse.
Rainey
Rainey will go hang out at the Hagfish tavern, and try to find out what the Hagfish (Norah) is, and just how vile the water is and how big the pot is.
He'll then propose a drinking contest. He'll lay out 1 sp and a free drink per *shot* of the Hagfish water to *anyone* there, plus 1 gp to anyone who can drink at least one more shot of it than him. If this offer generates some interest, he'll even offer a bigger prize to whoever will drink the most. He wouldn't want to outshine the main pot, but maybe a 10 gp prize to whoever drinks the most?
The goal would be to throw some money around, maybe generate some good will. I'm not sure if these numbers are high or low for the crowd. Rainey's almost definitely going to lose a contest like this, probably pretty badly.
Day 3: Exploring Town
The group continues to explore the town.
While he silently disapproves of how the ceremony currently underway is being performed -- the celebration of a childbirth -- Canun can't help but marvel at the construction of the cathedral itself. The entire structure is built of perfectly carved stone and etched glass, unlike every other building he's seen so far which have been constructed of wood. It is truly impressive.
Tearing himself away from the distraction that is, at least in his mind, an amateurish ceremony, he notices, deeper into the grand cathedral, sunlight. Venturing further inside, he observes, at the core of both this new cathedral, is an open-air courtyard. Inside this open area is a circular stone alter, which is surrounded by a set of six standing stones. He learns, through casual observation, that these large stones are in place to serve as individual shrines dedicated to the six most commonly worshiped deities in the region: Abadar, Desna, Erastil, Gozreh, Sarenrae, and Shelyn.
  • Deities
    • Abadar (pronounced AH-bah-dar): God of cities, law, merchants, and wealth.
    • Desna (pronounced DEZ-nuh): Goddess of freedom and luck; credited with the creation of the heavens.
    • Erastil (pronounced eh-RAS-til): God of farming, hunting, and trade.
    • Gozreh (pronounced GOHZ-ray): God of weather and the sea.
    • Sarenrae (pronounced SAER-en-ray): Goddess of redemption, honesty, and healing.
    • Shelyn (pronounced SHEHL-ihn): Goddess of art, beauty, love, and music.
Before leaving, Canun also learns that this multi-denominational cathedral is run by Abstalar Zantus, a priest of Desna.
Leaving the cathedral, Canun makes his way across town to the Goblin Squash Stables. A sign above the door to a smaller building is illustrated with a painting of a lowly goblin being trampled underfoot by a horse. Off to the right, however, are the stables themselves and a covered barn. Out near the stables, a retired hunter named Daviren Hosk, whose hatred of goblins is nearly legendary in Roganter, is found efforting to pull a nail caught in the foot of one of his mules. As Canun approaches, he notices a somewhat grisly display, over the entrance to the stable’s covered barn is Daviren's collection of goblin ears: preserved and nailed to three different rafters, each bearing the goblin’s name burned into the leathery flesh — mostly because Daviren knows that writing down a goblin’s name is one of the worst things you can do to desecrate his memory.
"Can I help ya?" the grizzled man says without prying his eyes from his work.
The nail finally removed, he pats the mule on its ass. "There, good as new -- almost." he says proudly. "Fer a dozen gold, she's yours."
----
Mila approaches The Curious Goblin and notices the sign out in front of this shop shows a wide-eyed goblin reading a book nearly as tall it is. Stepping inside the small establishment, it is obvious that this bookshop, with its walls all lined with shelves, is a testament to one man’s obsession with the printed word. Behind a desk, the top of a balding head of gray hair is seen over the top of an open, leather bound book. Several comfortable-looking, cushioned reading chairs occupy much of the rest of the floor in this room. One of the chairs is occupied by a well-dressed male reading a book.
"Can I help you?" a venerable, male voice calls out. Carefully folding the leather-bound book shut and laying it gently atop the desk, Chask Haladan rises to his feet and introduces himself. "Here, lemme see," he says excitedly when Mila mentions having a book for sale. "Ahh, a book of magic." he says, somewhat dejectedly. "I like books you can actually read," he says, stepping out from behind his desk.
"Ilsorai," he says, getting the attention of his customer. "Here, this is right up your alley." he says, handing the book over to the male stranger, after Mila nods her permission. Ilsorai, headmaster over at the nearby Turandarok Academy, offers Mila 200 gold pieces in exchange for it.
----
Rainey makes his way to The Hagfish, a larger wooden building, intent on spreading some coin around and hopefully generating some good will. Before entering, the volume inside -- of overlapping conversations and laughter -- is clearly audible. The establishment, by the sounds of it, is busy! Stepping inside, he immediately spies large glass aquarium sitting behind the bar. Inside the filthy tank a long, eel-like creature is seen slithering through the muck.
A one-legged man making his way across the room towards the bar catches Rainey peering at the captive sea creature. He alters his route to slap Rainey on his back. "That there is Norah," the man boasts proudly. "She's a hagfish, for which I named me tavern." he adds, extending a hand -- and vice-like grip -- while introducing himself as Jargie Quinn, the owner. "Come, to the bar," he continues, wrapping a muscular arm around Rainey's shoulder and "dragging" him towards the bar... which, for the moment, is full. A firm swipe with his free arm knocks a passed out patron off a stool and tumbling to the ground. "Take a seat," he says authoritatively once the uproarious laughter subsides.
Seated at the bar, he's afforded a closer look at the aquarium. Due to the nature of the hagfish, and the lack of cleaning Jargie purposefully maintains within the tank, the aquarium is thick with extremely thick, slimy, and most certainly foul-tasting water. A large, bulging leather pouch hangs from a nail next to the tank, and the ceiling beams above bear a number of names carved into them. "Fer a coin," Jargie starts, "Ye can attempt to drink a mug of water for Norah's tank." he finishes with a sly grin. "When ye can't finish, yer coin goes into the pouch.... but, if ye can finish, ye get to carver yer name in the ceiling and the contents of the pouch be yers."
"What say, ye?"
Rainey puts his plans into motion and proposes a drinking contest. Slapping a silver coin on the bar, he offers it, and a free drink, per shot of Norah's water they're able to finish. "Plus a piece of gold for anyone that can finish more shots than me!"
"Interesting,"
Jargie says. "Me likes yer style, kid." When no one volunteers, he continues: "But, see. These here are me regulars. They've all tried already... and only Skeet there on the floor --" he says, indicating the still passed out drunk he previously knocked off the stool Rainey now occupies, "-- was successful. And he refuses to try it again."
Jargie grabs an empty tankard from behind the bar and holds it hovering over the slime-filled tank.
"Ye wanna try yer luck?"
Rainey
Rainey will ask Jargie "Am I going to need a bucket, or should I just puke it back into the tank...? Wait, has anyone... died doing this?"
Rainey will then buy a round for everyone, including a shot for himself, before sliding a silver over to Jargie, and nodding. "If I make it everyone drinks free tonight. Just don't let me die..."
To some extent, Rainey's just trying to spread some money around to generate a little goodwill, both in case this goes awry, and in hopes of some locals taking a shine to him/the group, of course :)
The group continues to explore the town.
Mila approaches The Curious Goblin and notices the sign out in front of this shop shows a wide-eyed goblin reading a book nearly as tall it is. Stepping inside the small establishment, it is obvious that this bookshop, with its walls all lined with shelves, is a testament to one man’s obsession with the printed word. Behind a desk, the top of a balding head of gray hair is seen over the top of an open, leather bound book. Several comfortable-looking, cushioned reading chairs occupy much of the rest of the floor in this room. One of the chairs is occupied by a well-dressed male reading a book.
"Can I help you?" a venerable, male voice calls out. Carefully folding the leather-bound book shut and laying it gently atop the desk, Chask Haladan rises to his feet and introduces himself. "Here, lemme see," he says excitedly when Mila mentions having a book for sale. "Ahh, a book of magic." he says, somewhat dejectedly. "I like books you can actually read," he says, stepping out from behind his desk.
"Ilsorai," he says, getting the attention of his customer. "Here, this is right up your alley." he says, handing the book over to the male stranger, after Mila nods her permission. Ilsorai, headmaster over at the nearby Turandarok Academy, offers Mila 200 gold pieces in exchange for it.
She is more than a little shocked and nods mutely in agreement. She would never have thought that simply putting a handful of spells into a book would make it worth so much more. She considers the idea of setting up shop and transcribing books for the rest of her life. The idea of a single day's work and a 13 gold investment making 200gp... Then she hears something that draws her attention to focus more on her newer acquaintance. "You teach magic?" she squeaks quietly, her eyebrows rising in interest. "Like, how to do it right?"
Nook deducted from inventory and 200gp happily added. ;)
She will express real interest in schooling. The little ragamuffin lights up at the idea of learning what her magical abilities really are and maybe gain some kind of edge in using it.
Day 3: Bank
With roughly an hour of sunlight remaining in the day, the group make their way to the Town Hall hoping to find a safe place to store their newfound wealth.
The majority of the ground floor of this stone, two-story building consists of a meeting hall large enough to seat most of Roganter’s adults. It is very quiet when the group arrives, with only a handful of people evident. A male adorned in yellow robes approaches the pair as they enter. "Good morning, Sirs.. and Ma'ams. How may I be of assistance?" he asks.
He invites them to follow him down a flight of stairs after learning they're interested in depositing some coins, and introduces himself as Sergee. "It's right over here," he says, leading the pair to a locked room. Producing a key from a pocket in his robes, he holds the door open for them to enter and follows them inside, locking the door again with a different key. A large vault dominates the contents of this room. "You'll receive a promissory note of your deposit, stamped with the seal of Sir Nevin Forwarty. You'll need this note to withdraw any funds deposited."
"Oh, and there's a five percent fee per deposit."
When asked about converting coins, Sergee confirms those requests can be completed for a modest 1 gold piece fee.
----
The 5% transaction fee is for the complete transaction -- if you're mixing coins, it will be the (rounded) gold piece total that is used. There is no fee to withdraw your funds, but you will need the promissory note.
I will update again the actual character plans later.
Prior to the group separating in town, AdaRue, ever the dreamy, teenage girl suggests they check the found items for magic. It isn't likely that those dirty old goblins have anything worth much, but in the stories, brave adventurers sometimes find magical things. We can do it at the inn. Where do you all want to stay, anyways?
