Mid-Morning, 13 May 2021

Brother Mylo stands before the chapel and rings a bell, calling the attention of all the penitents, Templars, and townsfolk present. As Foxy O'Hare emerges from the door behind him, he begins to intone his words, chant-like and solemn, speaking loudly to the Chapel.

"The truth is known: Foxy O'Hare stands with no taint of the infernal, nor of evil magic or curse upon her. The Goddess have mercy and show all truth," says Brother Mylo.

"The truth is known," intone the penitents in response.

"The truth is known: Foxy O'Hare has deceived the faithful and the townfolk in fabricating tales of infernal attack and possession for the purpose of deceit and material gain. The Goddess have mercy and show all truth," says Brother Mylo.

"The truth is known," intone the penitents in response.

"The truth is known: Foxy O'Hare has intentionally sought to cultivate necromantic arts for personal use; her necromantic instruments have been taken and destroyed. The Goddess have mercy and show all truth," says Brother Mylo.

"The truth is known," intone the penitents in response.

"The truth is known: Foxy O'Hare has acted with evil intention in her heart and performed evil actions which were claimed in Eruanna's name. The Goddess have mercy and show all truth," says Brother Mylo.

"The truth is known," intone the penitents in response.

"The truth is known: Foxy O'Hare has refused contrition and confession in the eyes of the Goddess and suffers the sin of pride. She has lied and deceived the faithful, and bears the mark of a Liar until she seeks mercy, publicly, before the Goddess. The Goddess have mercy and show all truth," says Brother Mylo.

"The truth is known," intone the penitents in response.

A mystical sigil of an "L" appears spontaneously on Foxy's forehead, faintly glowing and iridescent, the mark of a Liar from the Goddess of Truth.

Brother Mylo, nods simply to Foxy and then passes through a door into the rear chambers, leaving her alone before the penitents, who stare at her with sad, pitying expressions.

Foxy O'Hare

FUCK YOUis the loud reply to the smirking Bro Mylo, as she is left escorted roughly up the aisle of the infirmary nave, Templar guard on either side. She is dressed in a simple dressing gown and nightrobe, a look not of penitent distress on her face but of anger and betrayal. As the devotees gawp and stare, Foxy takes the opportunity to climb the few steps into the makeshift pulpit where she steadies herself and launches not into a public confessional but a vengeful tirade.

Shame on you and your Templar pups that you condone to abduct a woman against her will from a place of refuge yet refuse to act when virgin maidens of Gaul are hauled off to the mercies of goblins. Treated as mere cattle to be sold into the hands of filthy necromancers, one of whose hands as he sought to slay me now lies shriveled and fleshless. A testament to the glories of Eruannas' grace and victory. A relic now buried and mourned over by Bro Mylo. He is ashamed of Eruannas victory, I say he is ashamed of the Monocs' defeat.
Breaking the laws of the heavens and nature angered both Baudh and Gwanwen, who conspired together. They confronted and captured her – Baudh put her to trial and pronounced a sentence of death for subverting justice

And now here I stand, Gwanwen Farrow and Brother Baudh who conspire together to capture me, pronouncing sentence of guilt without trial.
She waited until their acts were complete and all their worst was done, then stood and walked free
.

Let them then curse me with guilt if that is the worst of their accusations, the shame I bear now will only make my restitution more glorious. For were sin abounds , grace abounds more abundantly.

Foxy rips her dress to show the arrow, skeletal slash and goblin spear wounds.

]we keep not chapel or temple to Her Grace , for Eruannas temples are built within. These three scars, three bloody nails upon my mortal frame are testament to my faithfulness.
Hope is offered to any who are willing to bear their souls, give all they have,

I have borne my soul and have given my all. And I will wear a sign of my choosing. Brother 'Baudh' your lust for life and riches will find you out, I shall have my vindication and I shall have my revenge.

With that Foxy smashes a small glass of water into pieces and uses one of the shards to carve two lines across this L sigil, to make a blood drenched E, and using a ripped piece of night dress as a bandana to dress the wound, she leaves the chapel to return to the tavern.

Earc Orctongue

Earc arrives at the infirmary and asks to speak with Brother Mylo so that he may copy some spells into his spellbook. He offers up a piece of smoky quartz, a deep blue hunk of lapis lazuli, and a crystal of blue azurite as payment for copying the spells. As he pulls out the three semiprecious stones, he asks, "Whatever happened with that woman I helped you recover from the room at the inn?"
Dragon foot. Bamboo pole. Little mouse. Tiny boy.

Please post on your private forum about what you copy, and the price. It takes one IC day per spell-level to copy.

Milo retrieves a candle from the altar and studies you closely for a long time at your request. Finally he nods. "Your heart is good. Use them in faith.". He grants access to the materials in a private chamber for your work.

Oh, Miss O'Hare?" he answers your question. "She has been cleared of infernal suspicions and was released. It turned out to be a complex and intentional web of mundane lies and dramatic performance for other purposes."

"The truth is known," whispers a penitent near you.

Idriss

Enters the Infirmary ward with the stretcher bearing guards and approaches one if the ward sisters, "I have Miss O'Hare here. She is greviously wounded and has lost much blood. I believe you are familiar with her."

Idriss gives the priests some gold from Foxys' purse. "I'm sorry that she is in this state, she was very brave in the dangers we faced. Will this gold cover any expenses and dressings that she needs. I think she has a room covered in the inn and I will take her horse and gear over there, but the quiet here might be good for her soul.". -10gp

Brother Mylo looks over her wounds compassionately, calling nurses to disinfect and bind the grievous zombie bites and missing hunks of flesh. "I am glad you have shepherded this lost lamb and returned her to the flock. No coin is necessary for our services." He tucks the gold back in her pouch and sees her to a bed.

Idriss

Visits the Infirmary during his recuperation in Gaul. He steps into the ward chapel and lights a candle. He will politely greet the Sisters and those in devotions. After the evening absolutions performed he will approach the senior cleric.

"Brother Mylo, I see Miss O'Hare is well enough to shop around town. She is hare-brained maybe. I saw little of her feistiness though when we journeyed together. She has asked me regarding future trips though I am undecided. In truth, I feel travel and the circus in my blood. Always travelling, always seeking. I don't think. I will put roots down. Perhaps you could enlighten me more to your Templar vocation. Certainly devils and infernal machinations lie my my paths, especially if I heed the advice of Wilhelm."

"The Poor Fellows of the Temple?" replies Mylo curiously. "I will say it is a true calling, and not one meant for 'roots' or entertainment. In your travelling and seeking, did you find what you sought? Or are you still seeking to understand that purpose?" He considers Idriss thoughtfully. "It is possible that what you sought was a better purpose, and the Templars of this chapel can help you discover that through your trials. A Templar's life is also one of always travelling, always seeking, but one of deep contemplation and understanding of the force of Good against those of the evil planes. Your trials will include the deepest level of contrition in petition to Eruanna, you must face every secret of your soul, so that no dark seed of self-deceit is left as temptation to the infernal legions. You must also forswear material wealth to better serve as bulwark against temptations. Templars are expected to crusade tirelessly against the forces of evil, particularly the infernal and otherworldly, without regard to personal status, wealth, or gain. Each Templar makes vows of asceticism - never owning any property or deed which is greater than they can personally carry with them again in addition to their vows to protect and uphold the values of Eruanna. It is not an easy life, but it is a rewarding one."

Idriss

"I grew up on the Steppes, my family nomadically herding and living in yurt tabernacles made of thick hides. Baudhs prayer for gold or Gwanwen rain for crops never appealed to me. So I feel this path is my vocational call. The infernal and those who sought knowledge best left hidden have crossed my path. I think Eruanna in her grace is preparing my steps."

Idriss considers Brother Mylos' counsel and asks him about the ideas of Wilhelm regarding the Pinnacle doors and entering the goblin hole again.

"If I may, I would like to study from the book you advertise. I am literate in reading magic but having divine 'Protection from Evil' will certainly aid my steps."

"I can't say I much of the Pinnacles, but what you say of the creatures in this goblin hole are of gravest concern. The truth there must be known... so close to the town, as well," he replies. "You are welcome to study the spellbook, as that form of protection is invaluable against such foes. If you feel this is your calling, then I can take you into the Chambers of the Order for your Trials... you should expect to be sequestered for three days, I'd say."

Are you making your vows and taking the trials to be a Templar? If you are, then you should scribe the scroll after, when it is just the cost of materials. :)

Idriss Pathfinder

"I am not one for competing at festivals, performing a few tricks and saying a few soothes in the cards or palms, busking a song. I will take the Path and see where it leads."

Idriss agrees to Templar training, it should still free him up for leaving after the festival. I have an IC conversation going on with Casper at the inn, so will conclude that as being done before the Trials.

Idriss

Seeks advice from Brother Mylo regarding the invitation from a group of ruffian adventurers to seek out some kobold tower and beyond into some rumoured further civilised ruins beyond.

He expects he may have met this junior cleric of Eruanna whilst going through his trials.

01 June 2021
Idriss emerges from the back room, reclothed and invested as a Templar of Eruanna.

Brother Mylo nods in response to Idriss' inquiry. "Yes, a new cleric came north with the caravan. A carpenter, an honorable trade in our God's eyes. Kobolds concern me less than demons, of course, but it is wise to tred carefully. If you do decide to venture westward, keep a keen eye and report back. There is indication of powerful demonic activity on that horizon, but I know not yet the source. To show its taint from such a distance it is powerful and unafraid."

"I would seek out to confront the source if these 'sniffers' though I am sorely able. There is a willingness amongst these men to further cleanse the goblin hole should they succeed in trying their arm against these kobolds and other denizens. Perhaps journeying to aid them I might uncover more about what is out there and what is in here," he says tapping his heart.

At the mention of his person, Ablesworth the Wayfarer rises from his knees to greet Idriss and Brother Mylo. He is a tall, muscular man with an unkempt beard, wearing well worn clothes. As Brother Mylo indicates, the cleric appears to be a carpenter, as he carries setting maul a heavy mallet and other sundries, but the glint of dwarf-made, mail coat and holy symbol around his neck betray his true vocation. Hello then. You must be the Brother Mylo everyone makes mention of. Good things, of course. And judging by the fresh garb, this one must have fresh ink on his chest still, am I right? There aren't enough that choose the life of a Templar. Pleased to meet you. The name's Ablesworth. I mostly go by Able, though there's folk out there that just call me the Wayfarer on account of me drifting along like a kite in the wind. After being filled in on the tower and the infernal creatures of the deep, Able agrees to keep Idriss company with a trip to the kobold tower, And then we'll head to the depths of hell, as it were!

Part 2, sorry for he double post:

Able asks Brother Mylo if there is a place for him to make a public confession. Nothing like it to let the locals know who's invading their safe space. Just like jumping into a cold pond with both feet. Once the arrangements are made, Able introduces himself, explaining he had lost faith in the people of the southlands, Too many was too corrupt to be able to received Eruanna's gifts. Too many lies, wrapped around everyone like a web, for me to be helpful anymore. And I had found a good bit of coin a few days back and I used it to pay some dwarves for this fine mail tunic. I'll use my body and soul to shield the small folk of the region. Let the Truth be known.

"The truth is known," whispers the assembled penitents as Ableforth finishes his confession.

The service completes and Mylo offers his blessing over the two new companions. "Go forth and shine the light," he admonishes and hands them each a stick of incense. "Usable once, this will emit smoke that will shows the direction towards the nearest source of infernal power."
