Well, why didn'tcha just say so? ;)

I'm not saying you need to wait for everyone to post before every move. But in situations where someone could get injured—combat, where there are traps, wandering into the dark, etc.—the game seems more fair if the DM doesn't move forward the action that causes that injury until everyone has a chance to post or at least a full day has gone by.

And, look, the game just flows better if players can state standing orders like, "If my PC has a light source and he's about to walk into the dark, he uses that light source." But if you want the game to be SimLantern, hey, it's your game.

Fingers looks askance at the sarcophagus. "Might be full of magic. Probably full of something that wants to kill us. Long as it ain't coming out on its own, I'm fine not bothering it."

He waits while Hengist investigates the bone tubes. "Bones as bottles. Yuck."

I can't remember whether there's any writing on the sarcophagus. Or anywhere else in here that's non-magical. But Fingers will try to read it if so.

Zhym, please just stop.

Read languages (80) [1d100] = 40

For Fingers:
Written on the Sarcophagus:
Here lies Kudul-Haddoth, formerly apprentice of exalted Dreadlord Nystoraeth.
Failed in life and executed by beheading by the Dreadlord's hand,
This date, the first day of the fifth month of the 157th year of the Dreadlord's rule.

The writing on the door and tables is magical, not translatable.

Markd heads toward the door.

There is nothing worth seeing in this room, and staying here waiting for something bad to happen doesnt seem too smart. I'd say we should go on and check this thing out.

Bandy grabs 10 of the bone tubes and secures them by wrapping them in one of the large sacks before putting them back in his backpack.

(Inventory updated: 10 bone tubes of powdered metal)

Then he moves behind Markd... about 10' behind... and waits for him to open the door.

does that candle have enough juice, or does Markd need to do a lantern yet?

It's a special candlestick. Candles last same as a torch, but mostly provides light just for the holder.

Hengist looks at the inscriptions on the tables and at the bone tubes and shakes his head. "I do not know what purpose these serve. I agree with Markd that for now we should press on."

Sorry, guys, Detect Magic is not one of this morning's spells.

Okay, still holding until tomorrow for 48 hours... Zhym, do you have a post as party leader?
We now have Bandy's special candlestick and Markd's lantern.
Markd is opening the door that Bandy inspected earlier and Bandy is 10' behind.
Anything else in this room?

Fingers translates the writing on the sarcophagus aloud. "I dunno if he's gone all undead, but any loot he's got is probably evil. I ain't looking to find out. Let's move on."

He moves to the door that Bandy inspected and checks for traps. Assuming he finds none, he turns to the others. "Who wants to be our door opener?"

Bandy subtly points at Markd while rubbing his nose with the palm of his hand.

Fingers looks at the sigils on the door. It is obvious to him that it is mystically trapped in some way. He may be able to disarm it by scratching out the right symbols, but would be more difficult than simpler mechanisms.

Actions?

Date: 8:50am, 24 July 2021

"Crap," says Fingers. "I hate magical traps. Anybody else think they can do something about it?"

If this isn't too meta: does failure to disarm the trap automatically set it off?

...maybe. It's always a risk, but depends on the trap.

Okay. Being that magical traps are firmly in the list of things that can kill you dead, I'm inclined to leave this door alone unless we have some other way of getting past it or learning more about the trap. At the very least, we should come back when someone has Detect Magic prepared.

Question for the party: back to the rooms we've already seen? Is there any other writing we want to decipher?

OOC: I have no preference, either. Just remember to be on your guard when we get into the Hearing room; there might be a wight or some such thing wandering about. In the Nautilus room, there are lots of unexplored areas. Maybe better to get the wight out of the way. Or turned and destroyed.

No real preferences from me, but since we will probably have to deal with the Wight sooner or later let's do it now while we're fresh.
