ha... I kinda feel like I do playing captains choice golf, where I hit a gimme 2 foot putt first, so the team finally uses one of my shots.

my initiative rolls have generally sucked.

Sorry for the confusion, Zhym. You won initiative so will change places and it is a moot point, otherwise I would have redacted.

I'm going to wait for Hengist for whether he's attempting to turn them.

For Allmond, I didn't assume you wanted them turned - do you want to destroy them, or make them run away? If you make them flee then you wasted your oil, but I'll have him act to turn them if you request him to (and Hengist doesn't).

Turning them doesn't do us much good, unless there are too many to fight at once. And we want them bunched up in the fire. So unless flaming skeletons pose a risk to us, I'd say we leave them unturned and bash them.

I am curious, however, whether holy water prevents them from reforming. That might be something to try after they're defeated, though, so we don't waste holy water on attacks that miss.

I think the concensus is I should bash them, so I'll go with that.

Mace to hit (adjusted for second rank -1, STR +1) [1d20] = 19 damage [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5
Playing: At the Forest's Edge: Desmond Halfling Vagabond
The Northern Marches: Hengist Cleric of Baudh

The party's plan works astoundingly well. Fingers darts behind Bandy before the skeletons arrive and everyone is ready to strike as the skeletons methodically advance. Markd and Bandy strike down the first two, crumbling them to bone fragments on the floor before they can swing their swords, then Fingers and Hengist smash the next two, the skeletons continuing forward to an organized destruction.

Behind them, the ranks of skeletons continue forward - the oil fire intensifies and two of the skeletons crumble to dust in the doorway as fire disintegrates their leg bones, never making it to the hall. Two others, one heavily damaged by fire and the other mostly intact, now face the party. The last four are progressing through the firey barrier behind them.

(Next round, two skeletons this side of the fire)

Fingers keeps on smashing dem bones.

Longsword +1 (THAC0 18) [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12 [1d8+2] = 7+2 = 9
Does not include -1 for attacking from second rank.

Bandy continues swinging his longsword, both hands wrapped around the hilt in an interlocking grip...

Penderyn Longsword THAC016 [1d20+2] = 15+2 = 17 Dam [1d8+2] = 1+2 = 3
Dragon foot. Bamboo pole. Little mouse. Tiny boy.

Hengist has trouble finding a clear space for his strike: Mace to hit (adjusted for second rank -1, STR +1) [1d20] = 5 damage [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7
Playing: At the Forest's Edge: Desmond Halfling Vagabond
The Northern Marches: Hengist Cleric of Baudh

Bandy and Markd easily take down the two advancing skeletons before Hengist and Markd get a chance to reach them from the rear rank. The pile of bones on the floor continues to grow.

The last four skeletons advance through the flames, their dry bones again inflicted by the heat of the blaze. One collapses into the fire as its legs give out, two others are unstable as they advance due to the cracking in their lower limbs, the last still sturdy, its sword raised as they all methodically advance towards you in the hallway.

Round 3!

Fingers continues attacking with the sword taken from the top of the mound, many feet above him.

Longsword +1 (THAC0 18) [1d20+2] = 12+2 = 14 [1d8+2] = 1+2 = 3
As usual, someone else roll initiative, please.

Bandy smiles as his sword connects for a third time. But he also glances over at Markd as he does, wondering how the human can so easily swing twice as often as he can...

The party again steps forward before the mindless automotons can reach their effective range and swing their blades - the party intercepts and utterly shatters the dry bleach-white bones of each of the skeletal figures, the hallway floor now littered with the broken remains of their forms.

With no more foes emerging, you spend several minutes loitering and waiting for your oil fire to die down. Sprinkles whines plaintively, not wanting to step in amongst the bone fragments. Allmond shrugs. "Thought that'd be tougher, honestly." He leans on his knotted walking stick and spits into the floor debris.

When the oil has died down, you can step up and peer through the doorway, seeing as much as illuminated by the dimmed candleabras in the hallway behind you. You are at the end of a long room. The far wall is about 30 feet ahead, a door upon it mirroring the one you stand in. The room stretching to the right, well beyond the limit of the faint light. Within the room are several stone tables, each engraved with strange sigils across their surface.
