'Blackjack' Amistad

Where are the dwarves when you need them?

Poor creatures, did they pluck or scratch their own eyes out? Aware that even blinded dragons can hear and smell us, (especially the ogre), Amistad will invoke the power of his totem and leap ( as per 'Jump' spell) to attack the untangled dragon.

"We must slay them quickly, concentrate on this free one" he shouts as he moves forward.

Axe melee [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20 Axe damage [1d8+2] = 7+2 = 9

Clay would prefer to avoid conflict with the dragons. He is just about to call Entangle on the other dragon when Amistad leaps into battle. Placing a restraining paw on Morr, he decides to stand idle and watch.

The slithering serpents maintain their distance, but begin a rhythmic, keening hiss, first one and then the other. Willow touches the earth, calling upon the power of Beith to wake the plants from their slumber. The vines and brambles, the tree branches themselves, awaken with wrathful purpose, trying to grab the dragon that lies forward along your path. To her surprise, however, the brambles around her own party also awaken, lashing out at her and her companions! Willow and Kreek fire off a crossbow bolt and a heavy spear respectively, but both missing the dragon as their legs get snared and the tree limbs grasp their arms and torsos. Morrs yelps near Clay and also is tied down by a blackberry nettle. Both Chocolate and Craige neigh in terror as they, too, are bound in place. (Save vs Spells for Willow and Clay as well.)

Amistad grasps his family's ancestral totem and leaps forward towards the second dragon - his axe is unerring and he buries it squarely between the shoulder blades of the beast! (-18) The beast collapses to the earth as he stands over it, but he realizes his armor has grown uncomfortably warm - as he turns and looks back at his mired companions and the dragon slithering out of the writhing bushes towards them, he realizes his armor will soon be blisteringly painful to wear.

Save vs. Spell (14) [1d20] = 4

Nope.

Willow pulls her sling from her belt loop and fires a stone at the green dragon.

Sling Stone THAC020 [1d20] = 5 Damage [1d4] = 2

Which also doesn't work...

'Blackjack' Amistad

aw fuck, I'm going to cook. Amistad had oft wondered how Foxy felt when the Scatha dragon breathed his fiery breath on her as they charged in the joust. Now he is going to slow boil himself instead of microwave roast. Okay, as we are close to the riverbank Amistad is going to hedge his bets and determines to strike on the living dragon and save his compatriots and if he survives then will run for the cooling waters of the river. (How long to actually take off his banded armour? More rounds than taking one to run and bathe?).

I look at the rolls and think that the dragon made its saving throw vs the entangle spell? and therefore can move, albeit at half speed away from the entangling roots. Amistad invokes the second and last 'lion pounces' of the totem 'Jump' spell and swipes at the blinded green dragon as it approaches the noisy struggling party.

Axe melee [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22 Axe damage [1d8+2] = 5+2 = 7 A blistering attack from a blistering man!

Holding for Clay's save (and if he passes, his action.)

I'll only charge it as one action to don/remove armor, so one round. After that, though, you're fighting armorless. It'll take longer than that to run to the river.

You're correct - the dragon is visibly emerging from the entangled area.

Clay gnaws at the vines entwining his legs and torso, but the move too quickly. He is stuck fast, wondering if he will die again.

Save vs Spell (12) [1d20+1] = 3+1 = 4

The entire party immobilized and the green dragon closing in, Blackjack Amistad lets out a mighty roar and leaps - his momentum carrying him through the air once more with frightening speed, logging axe in both hands. The dragon hisses and turns its head, catching his incoming form in its jaws, crushing through the now-hot bands of his armored abdomen (-11) as his brings down the axe in a terrifying arc and severs the dragon's neck cleanly from its body (Critical hit: double damage, -28hp), ignoring the searing pain in his flesh from the hot metal as he does so (-1hp).

The rest of the party bound helpless by the vines, Amistad then strips from his armor as quickly as possible, but the scorching metal has already started its work, raising massive blisters and horrid burns over most of his torso (-7). He stands in his underwear, armor wilting the leaves where it lies on the ground glowing with heat. Amistad is perilously wounded from a single dragon's bite and the horrid burns, blisters already beginning to burst on his flesh.

Yet, he stands victorious. Two dragons, each slain by a single blow in as many minutes. When the vines and plants once again become quiescent seven minutes later, Kreek needs nothing further to convince him of Amistad's worth and prowess. The ogre is practically gushing with adulation towards the lumberjack. "Dragonslayer!" he pants breathlessly among other sayings in ogrish. "Dragons... real dragons. With your axe! FLYING MAN!" the ogre continues to gush and ramble, pantomiming the axe blow. "WHAM! Like that!"

Clay tears himself and Morr free of the slackening plants, then rushes over to Amistad, thanking him. That was really amazing. He gathers up mud from Earth and presses it into the lumberjack's wounds, praying as he does so, pleased to see the wounds close up. He admits that that is all the healing he can perform today.

What happened to these dragons that their eyes are burnt out? he asks Clarabelle to help remove the dragons' teeth. He mentions to Amistad that dragon hide supposedly makes fine armor, which would replace the armor he just lost.

Cure Light Wounds [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6
Cure Light Wounds [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4

How.many suits of armor could we make from two juvenile dragons? That would almost be worth ending the adventure right there.

Willow rushes to Amistad's side along with the oversized badger and likewise aids in healing him.

Cure Light Wounds on Amistad [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

"That was... quite amazing," she murmurs quietly as she tends his wounds.

Amistad only lost 12 HP, so one of our CLWs want needed.

Clay looks around the area and suggests making camp nearby. He acknowledges it is still early, but points out it would allow them to strip the dragons of the good stuff.

He lost 19hp, so with the three CLW he is still -3.

Willow asks Amistad, "These are the two green dragons you had to deal with on an earlier expedition? The ones that magi blinded with the light spell, yes? Interesting how they adapted to the Magic," she begins muttering to herself as she examines the nearest dragon corpse, paying close attention to the eyes.

That encounter isn't mentioned in the tavern tales. I assumed it wasn't common knowledge for PCs. Is it? Then again, we know about the dryad, so maybe we do know about the dragons.

OOC: There was enough mention of the two dragons and them escaping but being worse off that it seemed ok to think that more details might have come out.

For some reason the tavern tales thread hadn't completed loading earlier so I didn't see the story at all. I agree that the rest of the tale was likely public knowledge eventually.

The ministrations of the clerics bind and heal the dragon's fang marks on his side, his skin still tender from the burns inflicted by his armor. Clay the badger suggests they the group make camp and that the dragons be dissected... by someone who has hands.

Willow inspects the dragons eyes - which is to say, the eye sockets. The eyes themselves are cleanly removed, only tiny bits of flesh where the eye would have previously connected. The soft flesh of the eyeballs themselves is completely disintegrated.

Clay judges the size and condition of the two juvenile dragons - they're about 15' in length, half of that being tail. You could get at most two human sized sets of armor from each [2d2 total]. The young dragon hide is extremely supple, but still strong. (Armor would count as leather armor but with AC 4.)
