Round 1 (surprise)
As Stantz;s shot is rewarded by a high pitched yelp, Bremen smiles. Then shrugs as his crossbow's firing mechanism jams. Nice shot Stantz! He drops the crossbow to the ground and draws his long sword. Too bad. I was going to spit that alpha male through the eye. Stay together, men. Protect the horses. The six men-at-arms form ranks with him, swords drawn.
Heavy Crossbow (THACO 17): [1d20+2] = 1+2 = 3, damage [1d8] = 7
Stantz, Long Bow (THAC0 17): [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20, dmg [1d8] = 4
Ridiculous. When Bremen was heading to the White Tower, Stantz couldn't hit the broad side of the barn, leaving Bremen to save his life with a bow. This is a total roll reversal from that.
Round 2
As Stantz fires another beautiful shot, Bremen smiles, knowing his tutelage is the cause. He and his mounted men allow the beasts attack.
Initiative (modified for DEX) [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 (reroll if you want to Dram)
Stantz, Long Bow (THAC0 17): [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20, dmg [1d8] = 4
If needed
Long Sword (THACO 17): [1d20+1] = 7+1 = 8, damage [1d8+1] = 4+1 = 5
Father Clauson, whip of hopelessness (THAC0 19): [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11, dmg [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 guessing on the damage there
[1d20] = 8, [1d20] = 5, [1d20] = 5, [1d20] = 20, [1d20] = 14, [1d20] = 17
[1d8] = 3, [1d8] = 8, [1d8] = 4, [1d8] = 7, [1d8] = 6, [1d8] = 4
Geez. I feel like I'm playing a tabletop mini game like WFB, with a fist full of dice! I'll let Marullus roll for the horses because I need to make dinner right now. And because I'm not completely sure if each hoof gets it's own To Hit roll.

Piers lets fly with his sling...and shakes his head in disgust as his shot flies wide.

Osuna will close in to hurl a dart at the nearest beast. "Fly, my fury!" she shouts while trying to look as impressive as one can whilst flinging little darts.

"The only good warg or wolf is a dead one," opines Lord Commander Bremen, and it seems everyone agrees. The group sets upon the napping canines at range - Baxtaw elicits a yelp as he shoots a warg (-4), while Stantz and Osana slay the smallest wolf with their well-placed arrow (-4) and dart (-3). Bremen's crossbow jams utterly, failing to shoot rather embarrassingly (Critical fumble).

Lug leads the charge with his massive sword, cleaving deep into the side of the second massive warg. The wolves leap to its aid, but achieve no success against the massive human besides worrying the leather straps on his greaves with their teeth. Then Bremen sends in his riders, who take to the task with almost a vicious glee - their mounts charge around and past Lug, their swords efficiently slicing down the two wargs. The three remaining wolves, facing a half-dozen mounted riders and without their alphas, turn tail and flee down the mountainside.

Date: 6:02pm, 25 July 2021
Light: Sunlight
Effects: None
Injuries: None

(Reminder: when you send in a military unit to do the job, it nullifies XP gain but accomplishes the objective. If they're guarding the horses, you're fine. If you recruit them to come in with you, it adds an additional six half-shares to the XP division.)

He and his mounted men allow the beasts attack.
The intent was to let the wolves charge into the group. A defend action.

In that case, I'll roll for the NPCs if it is necessary. If you roll, you're committing them to act. In this case, I'll amend to extend the combat.

Wait for the new post.

Rowine and Crowgar also launch arrows into the mix - Rowine deftly targets the lead warg, sinking two shafts into its hide behind Baxtaw's (-6, -4). Three feathered fletchings stick from its hide, but it still stands. Stantz's second shaft hits the second warg, giving it a moment of pause as Lug runs its direction. Baxtaw's second shaft hits one of the wolves in the flank, eliciting a snarl. Piers and Osana try again, but their second volley is to no avail.

Lug leads the charge with his massive sword, cleaving deep into the side of the second massive warg. The wolves leap to its aid, but achieve no success against the massive human besides worrying the leather straps on his greaves with their teeth. The wounded lead warg turns on the warrior and bites his forearm. (-2) Bremen charges in on his warhorse with Father Clauson at his side behind Lug -- They cause confusion in the melee but neither of their weapons connect. They keep the wolves teeth away from them and their mounts.

One warg and two wolves remaining, they are bolstered by the drawing of blood and redouble their efforts against the men and horses who have charged willingly into their jaws. The six mounted men remain back, an effective wall to protect the archers for a charge that doesn't come.

Gotcha. Much easier for me. Thanks!
In cc, the warhorses get attacks, right? Is that a separate attack roll for each hoof? If Stantz charges in, his horse doesn't get attacks this round, correct?
And can Bremen use his Warhammer while riding a horse? I was thinking not, but it's magical, from a temple of knights that ride horses, so I thought I'd ask.

Yes, ONLY a warhorse gets attacks. You can roll a [1d20] [1d20] [1d6] [1d6], against one foe. It makes sense that you the horse can't attack on a round it has charged. [Edit: This is explicit on page 82.] It also makes sense that you can't use two-handed weapons from horseback. I'll add them to house rules.

"Ha ha!" Lug laughs heartily, actually saying the words "ha." To the casual eye, it might look like a fight between animals as Lug, draped in his dire wolf cloak, fights the warg. But wolves don't tend to have goofy grins when they fight.

"'Bout time we had a good fight!" he laughs.

"Reason" (2-handed sword) (THAC0 18): [1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21 [1d10+2] = 6+2 = 8

Lord Commander Bremen, his horse, Stantz and Father Clauson all make fools of themselves while offering up some tasty looking horses to the canines.

Dear god... The roller hates me today!

Piers waits with his hammer at the ready, but the brains that Baudh gave him tell him not to take the chance of throwing it into melee. If the fight starts going horribly wrong, or a wolf tries to attack him, then he may change his mind. But he's content to watch and wait for now.

No. You got a surprise round and a normal round. Only fighters of level 5+ get more attacks.

Dorbeck doesn't have a ranged weapon. He's waiting with the group, holding Thundred's axe.

Clauson dramatically lashes his braided back bullwhip above his head, but as his horse shies sideways, he gets hopelessly tangled (critical fumble: disarm) -- the remaining warg, seeing his weakness, leaps at him and savages his arm (-2hp). Baxtaw's arrow flies in and punctures the beast just in time, though, and the warg collapses to the earth (-4hp).

The two remaining wolves also choose to leap at the riders and their horsemeat. One bites Bremen's leather-clad leg (-4hp) before Lug wades in with eminent glee and cuts it in half with his massive sword. The last remaining wolf misses Bremen and crouches defensively, snarling at the group amidst the bodies of his slain packmates.

Piers, Osana, and the mounted knights hang back, letting the others dispatch the canine problem.

"Aw, man," groans Lug as he slashes at the remaining wolf, "I wanted to kill the warg! Plain old boring wolves are too easy. And I think Xavro might be sad that I had to kill them."

"G'won!" he shouts at the crouching wolf. "Shoo! Shoo! Git, or I'll hafta kill you!"

If he has to kill it:
"Reason" (2-handed sword) (THAC0 18): [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20 [1d10+2] = 5+2 = 7

Grim faced, Captain Bremen and Stantz move in from either side, slashing with their swords and allowing their horses to pummel the wolf into a pulpy mess with their hooves. The wolf would only join another pack and try for us later.

Initiative (modified for DEX) [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4

[1d20] = 17, [1d20] = 14, [1d6] = 5, [1d6] = 1I forgot Clauson has a riding horse and cannot attack.
