Bremen lights another torch, handing it to Baxtaw to hold. If asked about it, he will point out that his hands are full of ancient farming equipment being is to detect traps. Listening to the distant goblins from the portcullis, he mentions that it's amazing the goblins would be content to stay in a mountain that also houses a dragon. When Lug raises the portcullis, Bremen slips beneath with Stantz, the two of them standing guard for the others. Lug, he says,I've got no love forf goblins, but when we get to the dragon, I'd prefer it if we were whole.
We don't need to fight them, is all.

Torch deducted.

"You sure the goblins know that?" retorts Lug cheerily.

Bremen shrugs in a not-so-very-Lord-Commanderly-way. True enough. I'm just don't want to draw so much attention that they chase us out before we can do what we came here to do. If Lug presses the issue and attacks, Bremen won't stop the giant man.

Osuna steps forward. "I can speak their tongue, though it has been ages since practice," the seer says with some reservation. "How shall I present our argument?"

"Baudh's Dictums Of Life advise us to Speak well to folk, but keep a weapon close by!" intones Piers. "The Lord Commander makes an astute point: why are they here? Perhaps they work for the dragon now? If we can't get their assistance without a fight, at least try to capture one for interrogation."

The party contemplates the goblin's life choices while Bremen strikes a new torch and hands it to Baxtaw. Lug hefts the portcullis, which turns out to be no match for his beefy muscles. The metal bars retract into an alcove in the ceiling above with a loud bang and the sound of rattling chain echoing through the stone from the mechanisms here and below. There is a pause in the goblin clamor, then a change in its tempo. The sounds of their raucous daily life now replaced with scurrying and whispers.

"HELLO, GOBLINS!" calls out Lug. "DO YOU WANNA HELP US DEFEAT YOUR EVIL OVERLORD, OR DO YOU WANNA FIGHT?"

Sorry, folks. Occasionally I need to role-play Lug's wisdom. :D

Bremen smiles. He is starting to like this priest. At Lug's outburst, he finds a dark corner to retreat to, wrapping his cloak around him. He keeps one hand on his crossbow, the other on his warhammer. He indicates to Stantz and Father clauson that they should find a defensible position im case the goblins charge.

"Crowager, watch our rear. Rowine, stand here with me. If we fight, and you can get a clear shot, take it. Otherwise be ready to assist Crowager. We don't want to hit someone in the back".

Piers is ready to talk to the goblins if he gets a chance. But he hefts his throwing hammer just in case, ready to provide support to the front line fighters.

There are no "dark corners" in the narrow, spiral stair in which the party now prepares for combat. Bremen ducks backwards, which provides a convenient opportunity for the excited Lug to step forward to the front rank. Piers shouts orders and also shifts the order before the goblins can arrive, calling Rowine up with him, which also moves Osuna towards the back and puts Stantz up into melee range.

"HELLO, GOBLINS!" calls out Lug. "DO YOU WANNA HELP US DEFEAT YOUR EVIL OVERLORD, OR DO YOU WANNA FIGHT?"

Five goblins in dwarven chainmail, each with a short sword on their belt and a shortbow in their hands, pump each other up with encouragement in their goblin tongue and make their way forward in the stair. They creep up to the edge of your torchlight, which is also the furthest bend of the hallway at which they can get a clear shot.

"YEAAAHHHH!" cries Lug as he runs headlong into the goblins, Reason held high.

"Reason" (2-handed sword) (THAC0 18): [1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19 [1d10+2] = 4+2 = 6

I can never remember—do LL or the house rules have the rule that fighters get multiple attacks against opponents with less than 1 HD?

No, but house rules give you two-attacks per round at level 5 as a fighter.

Baxtaw charges in with Lug. Hoping that one of the recognize as the killer of their goblin king.

Dragon Tooth S. Sword tohit[1d20+3] = 17+3 = 20, vs Dragons [1d20+5] = 14+5 = 19, todam[1d6+3] = 2+3 = 5vs dragons[1d6+5] = 1+5 = 6

OCC- I do not if the for "Dragons Tooth" was written up correctly?

Seeing their meatshields run into battle, Bremen and Stantz fire arrows at the second rank of goblins, hoping to this their numbers before melee ensues.

Heavy Crossbow (THACO 17): [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16, damage [1d8] = 7
Stantz, Long Bow (THAC0 17): [1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17, dmg [1d8] = 1
Initiative (modified for DEX) [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 Dram's choice whether to reroll initiative.

Bremen's crossbow bolt twangs, flying deftly through his companions and grazing a goblin as it pokes out it's head to shoot (-1). The goblin arrows clatter in the stone stairwell, one grazing Baxtaw as he rushes forward (-1).

Baxtaw and Lig both charge forward, their powerful blows dicing the front to goblins into pieces. The other three exploratory creatures turn and flee as fast as they can back down the stairs, screaming a warning as they go.

(parting shots or make chase?)
