Olaf would like to use the glowy bastard sword if no one minds.

Funil and Drunil dutifully move the corpses as directed, including dredging the drowned gnolls out of the warm tub and wrapping the dead pups in the gnoll's discarded clothing to conceal them and not have to touch them directly.

I'm confused as to where the body-pile is. In the nursery room with the dry fountain, or in the hot tub room?

Oh, sorry, hot tub room. I thought the hot tub also had a fountain.

Winnie shrugs at the pile of gear, knowing none of it suits her. If Halfpint is fine for weaponry, I would be interested in your short sword, Earc. I only have a dagger and a handful of darts. I will, of course, return it when we return to town.

She admits she has no idea about traps or picking locks. She suggests turning the chests around when opening them, perhaps using a bed to or the large should to protect whomever plans to open them. (Two are unlocked, at any rate)

"Opening a chest be easy," says Olaf, hefting his pick. "Not busting the stuff in it, or not getting hit with trap, that be the trick."

Halfpint rolls her eyes and attempts to find a way to open the lock. She will look for traps if she can see anything that would be suspicious to an impulsive hobbit.

Earc gives Winnie his sword. "Got it from a troll's lair. That wasn't an easy fight," he recalls with a frown. "It's magical to the first order(+1). And you can have it, Winnie."

As he lays it in her hands, he adds, "And I sincerely hope you never have to use it."

While the others fuss with the two locked chests, Earc examines one of the three without locks. If it isn't even latched, he turns the chest so that it faces a wall, then stands to one side and uses his new sword to lift open the lid of the chest.

Halfpint examines the two Elurian chests, looking for anything suspicious. The most suspicious thing is that you can't even ascertain how the boxes were constructed. They are made masterfully, with perfect seams where the lid meets the box and no apparent joining on any other corner or side. The keyhole denotes the lock, who's mechanisms are internal to the box, but the rest is a mystery to you. The boxes are marred and scratched recently around the lock and seams, but without apparent success.

Earc turns a Southron lockbox around towards the wall and lifts the lid with his sword. He finds it is filled with gold coins of various southern denominations. He estimates it is about 700gp.

Bianca

She steps out from the shadows wearing the chainmail which fits surprisingly well and gives off a familiar tingle of magic. Assuming no one protest, she will also pick up the round heater and the longsword with the blue dragonscale wraps.

Earc smiles and nods his approval before turning his attention back to the chests of what Earc hopes is more coin.

Issachar

dutifully strips and changes into the banded mail and checks the quality and balance of the flail with a few golf swings against the gnoll skulls."Fine and dandy, 'Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy"he quotes from some obscure Gwanwen proverbs.

"Let me also do a final ministration for the restoration of our souls and body. May the cleansing flow of sacrificed blood remove the smears and blemishes of our tainted souls and bodies." the cleric says in religious chant. Using the last of the pups as an offering he enhances his Cure Light Wounds and lays hands on the injured Olaf (if the Moradin worshipping heathen will humbly grant to such a boon being bestowed upon him) .

Issachar casts Cure Light Wounds [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 +2 from the blood donor =6hp

Issachar holds the last pup for Olaf's return, ritually slaughtering it while intoning prayers, laying hands on Olaf's injured head. (+6hp)A bit of the gnoll blood splatters onto the dwarf in the process.

Bianca dons her new chainmail under her cloak, choosing the matching shield and then a fine looking longsword to equip herself while Earc nods his approval. Issachar dons the banded mail and tries out the heavy flail. The gnoll skull splits open with a sickening crack, splattering brains across the hot tub room floor.

Earc inspects the other two southron small chests. He finds a second also laden with gold. The third is filled with polished gemstones embedded in a protective case for shipment, likely a jeweler's order:
7 polished opal rondels
7 golden brown tiger eyes
8 deep blue azurites

The small chests weigh 75lbs, 75lbs, and 20lbs, respectively.

Date: 2:50pm, 18 July 2021
Light: Torchlight in sconces
Effects: None
Injuries: Issachar (minor injury), Olaf (superficial injury)

Olaf accepts Issachar's healing, though he grimaces at the price Gwanwen demands. The priests who just want you to tell them a truth—those are much easier. Olaf always tells the truth.

Hearing no objections, Olaf takes custody of the glowing bastard sword, wondering whose ancestors it belonged to. He gives it a few more swings to futher assess its capabilities, sparring with someone if possible.

"Leave the chests," he advises. "There be time to take them after we cleared out the tower." To make his point, he steps up to the next door, waiting until the group is ready to continue with their mission.

Winnie's feelings about the slaughter of the pup in the name of the goddess Gwanwen remain checked, though it causes her to wonder at the nature of mankind, that they would prefer bloodletting for their healing, rather than just serve the natural order of the world. She nods at Earc's recommendations to avoid conflict. She proves his words by sparring with Olaf, trying to get a feel for using a short sword. She quickly gives up and, instead, marvels at the chainmail, sword and shield her elf-sister has donned. That's pretty amazing stuff! You look like something from a storybook, Bianca! Try the sword with Olaf. I'm no good at that stuff, you know.

While Olaf continues to test his sword, Winnie leads Pony into the room and helps load him up with treasure, wondering if the others will think to just head back to Gaul due to having so much treasure that further delving will be slowed. She still wants to seek out the spell books.

Probably not enough here for anyone to level up yet, but it is something to keep an eye on...

Earc carefully transfers the contents of the third chest into his backpack. He can easily take the extra weight of the gems, especially without the chest.

Then he slides the chests over to one side, along with the two Ellurian chests, and prepares to move on.

Added the following to Earc's inventory:
7 polished opal rondels
7 golden brown tiger eyes
8 deep blue azurites
Dragon foot. Bamboo pole. Little mouse. Tiny boy.

Olaf is so busy testing the glowy sword that he almost misses the gems. "Oooh!" he says, spying the gems as he spars with Bianca. Distracted, he drops his guard and lets a ringing hit on his armor through. He rushes over to Earc. "Do ye mind?" he asks, holding out his hand.

If Earc obliges, Olaf looks through the gems. He hands the rondels back immediately. "Might 's well carry platinum," he says dismissively. "Tiger eyes be nothing special. Azurites are kind of nice for azurites, though. Whole lot's worth a little less than that big pile o' gold over there," he concludes, handing the rest of the gems back to Earc.

"Everyone who wants shiny new-old weapons and armor got shiny new-old weapons and armor?" he asks. He considers the workmanship of the Ellurian armor and weapons. He wishes he could learn the secret ways the ancients used to forge such fine steel. He would never give up his father's father's armor, of course, but the Ellurian items fascinate him as pieces of fine workmanship.

He resumes sparring—then realizes something. And he's pissed. "Fecking dung-sucking son of a slurry salesman!" he shouts. "This silt-shifting slag of a sword be cursed!"

"I be a hobgob's boy toy if I'm gonna try to take a tower with a cursed sword. Let's go back to town so I can be rid of this thing."

Value of coins:
Rondels: 10 gp each
Tiger eyes: 25 gp each
Azurites: 50 gp each
645 total

OOC: I'm fine with going back to town. We can grab the chests and the armour/weapons, rest and recover spells, and then get rid on the cursed sword.

Earc sighs, but shows concern that the primary fighter of his group is currently wielding a cursed weapon. "Ok... yeah, it does us no good to have you wielding a cursed weapon, Olaf. Let's load the chests up on the mule, gather the weapons and armour, and go back. We will try and leave without drawing any attention to ourselves; maybe if we can make it back in two days, we can still keep the element of surprise."

If nobody disagrees, Earc helps load the chests and armour and weapons onto the mule before heading back out the tunnel.
