Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Earc nods in agreement. "Who knows what we're going to run into down here, Issachar. Happy to have you closer to the front."
Earc shifts to allow Issiachar a spot in line closer to the dwarves.
"It might benefit us to begin mapping. I shall attempt to do so, if nobody minds..."
OOC: How wide is the new hallway past the secret passage entrance?

"Tower be promised to Funil's and Drunil's clan," Olaf tells Earc when the latter starts speaking of taking the tower for himself. "Their ancestors owned it, so it still be theirs by right."
Olaf tries to convince Pony to continue on, clearing the smelly junk out of the hallway ahead if necessary to get the mule to go that way.

Earc shrugs, "That's fine. They can have the tower. I just want what's inside..."
OOC: As soon as we can tell what the hallway width is, I'll post marching order.

Olaf, if you prefer, I can lead Pony. It would let you focus on looking for more secret passages and possible threats. If he acquiesces, she takes the rope and coaxes the Mike through the rubbish, clearing the way as necessary.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
"Aye," agrees Olaf.

Issachar
makes a mental note of the witch needing a broomstick as the path is cleared in the corridor.
"We should move with some trepidation and care for I can call minster divine restoration to our health but once this morning." he says while picking his nails with the scythe blade."Can you shed more light on what we expect to find inside? I have only heard the whispers on the wind and rumours blow back and forth like seasonal scirocco." he asks Earc"we found some evidence of the priest of Baudh, scraps of uniform and tattered regimental codes, but no notes, no diary, no other clues as to their intention when they came here".

The group quickly packs their camp gear, pressing ahead. Issachar moves towards the front, lighting his lantern, while Earc keeps his glowing piece of driftwood. With Olaf's urging, pony the mule makes it down the hallway full of gnoll waste and proceeds into the dungeon with the party.
Beyond the secret door is not a hallway, but a wide room. It extends fifty feet forward and opens up forty feet to the left. An iron door is in the center of the right-hand wall while a plain wooden door is in the far corner of the left-hand wall. The room arches upward with a vaulted ceiling, ornamental buttresses coming down to each of the corners. A large ceremonial anvil, typical for worship of Moradin, rests in the middle of the room, stone benches pushed out of position and now arrayed haphazardly around the room.
Date: 10:20am, 19 July 2021
Light: Earc's glowstick, Issachar's Lantern (until 2:00pm)
Effects: None
Injuries: Issachar (minor injury), Olaf (superficial injury)

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
"Tch, tch, tch," Olaf clucks disapprovingly at the state of the room. He pulls his hammer from his belt and strides up to the altar, ready to strike it in the traditional gesture of honor to Moradin. He stops, hammer in the air, as he realizes that the sound of a full strike might serve as an alarm to the occupants of this tower. So he brings the hammer down more slowly, lightly tapping the anvil. He puts his hammer away and starts moving the stone benches to where they are supposed to be.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Earc motions for Olaf to check the metal door while he examines the wooden one. Then he asks the others. to locate the activation switch for the secret door on this side, so everyone knows where it is in case it gets closed.
Once he gets to the wooden door, he listens at it to see if he can hear anything.

I don't know that we ever decided what we all took with us. Winnie made some recommendations, and Marullus mentioned Pony's encumbrance if everything was loaded.
A load of torches would be a great idea to bring.

Earc sees Halfpint light a torch and says, "I can make your torch a semi-permanent light if you want. Because it's a wooden material, it will likely not last longer than a year. It would be brighter than a torch, but you use it to set anything on fire."

How would it work, then, if we needed to hide the light for a moment?

Winnie is intrigued. Different from your continual light stick, then, because it will actually burn. Is it a permanence spell, or something else? If you don't mind me asking, that is.
Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Failing to decide is a decision itself. You brought the chests and packed the unclaimed weapons/armor, all on the mule, and otherwise left things as-is. If you want to have brought some torches, that's acceptable.Rusty Tincanne wrote:I don't know that we ever decided what we all took with us.
I assume that was a typo.Alethan wrote:Earc sees Halfpint light a torch and says, "I can make your torch a semi-permanent light if you want. Issachar holds his lantern aloft, ensuring there is nothing hazardous in the domed ceiling above. All looks clear and, with the nature of dwarven engineering, quite sturdy. The group is able to locate the hidden switch to this side of the secret door, allowing future access from the chapel to the bathhouse. The iron door is locked. The wooden door doesn't have a lock, and looks openable. Earc listens at the wooden door, but doesn't detect anything on the other side.
Olaf begins arranging the stone benches back around the Moradin altar. About half-way finished, he approaches a group of benches on the far side of the room and shifts them. There is a shrill wailing - a solitary goblin pulls back on the bench, scrambling to hold onto the other end of the bench and also hold aloft a now-loose end of a man-sized winter blanket.

Olaf's sword cleaves the goblin from clavicle to navel, the wail turning into a gurgle as the small creature collapses, still clinging to its grey blanket.

Re: Expedition: Earc/Guhra's Tower - 15 July 2021
Olaf scowls and sighs. Taking over a tower is bloody business. He knows that. So why does he feel bad for slaughtering a goblin? He sheathes his sword and resumes putting Moradin's chapel to right, wondering if he did the right thing.
