The ArchDuke mulls over these answers. Sir Albrecht shifts uncomfortably in the silence, watching you. There is a general murmuring among the few courtiers in the room.

"Very well. You have brought this dragon to us and served as its courier. What now do you intend to do about it? Or do you intend that I serve up the children of our realm to its appetite?"

In describing the horn and its effects, do you mention the Blackhelm dwarves and their deaths?

Yes...
She will not mention the duel or the arguments. Just that they came to the horn, they heard of the goblin raid. They volunteered along with some orgres. Unfortunately all of them were killed.

(she doesnt realize the impact that admission might have on her own reputation around town.)

Halfpint takes a step back.
Miss Foxy was the one with all the answers, until the dragon tied her tongue. I just knew we needed to warn everyone that a dragon was loose nearby. How does one defeat a dragon? I assume we need to get the whole town together to fight it?

The Archduke smiles thinly, then motions to Sir Albrecht. "Then for your sake and for Gaul's, I suggest you untie her tongue." The Captain approaches and hands you a small sack half-full of clinking coins. This sack is your reward - the hundred platinum pieces promised for those who broke the goblin problem. You've discovered the lair, provided detail as to its interior as a dwarven ruin, and provided the Goblin King's head... I will honor that promise, despite the misfortune that you've brought a dragon to our door. It should be more than enough for that Pierpont fellow, unless you have other means."

He directs that the oversized goblin head be cleaned up and disposed of.

Foxy O'Hare

draws with her gloss lipstick on the tiled floor some childish pictures ... bear eating a jar of honey, a butterfly that breaths fire, a dancing dwarf with red hair, a badger holding some bluebells, ...

Any final comment or action by Baxtaw and Halfpint? If not, then that concludes their visit on June 10th. I'll convert this thread to serve as the Court Discussions leading up to whether they post a flag or not on June 15th.

Halfpint graciously accepts their reward...

"Thank you very much on behalf of Miss Foxy and the rest of our poor team. Hopefully the last few make it back. I am sure she is sorry for any harm she may have caused, whether from butterflies or a honey bee badgering a dwarf.?.?.

Once escorted out, she will subtly work with Baxtaw to properly account for the share.

June 11-14, 2021: The ArchDuke's Hall

As the Heralds spread across the town to spread the news of the dragon, the Archduke opens his hall to those who wish to discuss this existential threat to the existence of all in Gaul. The guardsmen filter the panicked rabble at the door, allowing through those adventurers who are more likely to have ideas to present.

Archduke Gaul and Sir Albrecht sit in the dais at the room's far end, deep in conversation with those that have come in.

Any PCs in town on this date are welcome to enter here and discuss the options that the city has before the deadline for the crimson flag to be raised on June 15th for the full moon. At this time:
  • Bremen is in a cell (until hearing on 18 June)
  • Grizzly Woman and Clay Weatherwax are still afield (return unknown)
  • Fingers McGraw, Rhybek Baerdrum, Neegan Battleworx, Ablesforth, and Idriss are at the Kobold Tower (returning 18 June)
  • Blackjack Amistad and Earc Orctongue are at Frogmorton Ford, so do receive word and can come into town if they wish.
  • Everyone else is free to act in this scene retroactively.

A dragon living in a dwarven ruin threatens the town? That's all Olaf Olafsonsson, son of Olaf Olafson, needs to hear. He presents himself at the keep, ready to help in any way he can.

Pendleton Kettleworth is fascinated be the prospect of conversing with a dragon. He studied the language, of course, but opportunities to practice conversational dragon are limited—and often, in the literal sense of the word, singular.

"You.... speak dragon?" remarks Sir Albrecht to Pendleton. "So you've had experience, then?"

"I fear in this case," adds the ArchDuke, "The dragon is quite conversant in our own tongue, but also curious and loquacious. it has twice stopped to speak with those it found rather than doing the normal roasting and eating; this is how it communicated its demands that we tie our maidens to a stake outside the northern gate each new moon. I hope," he regards Pendleton, "this character trait can be exploited to renegotiate its demands by one who can exploit its desire for conversation."

"Does anyone have ideas for how this dragon could be dealt with that will allow us to not acquiesce to its demands and sacrifice anyone?" asks Sir Albrecht as an open question, turning to Olaf and the others gathering as well.

"Not experience as such," admits Pendleton. "Dragons are not common in the south, and conversations with them often end in being eaten. Practical dragon linguists are therefore quite rare. But I have studied dragons and their language extensively, practicing as best I can with other students of dragonlore. My dialect may be somewhat formal and stilted, but the language of dragons is itself extremely archaic and formalistic. I have no doubt that I could converse with this dragon in its own tongue, if doing so would be to the town's benefit."

"Erm...maybe if we dinna have any virgins, the dragon would lose interest?" offers Olaf uncertainly.

'Blackjack' Amistad

"My family live in Gaul. I will defend my young sister from the demands of this fiend. The spirit of my ancestors will watch over me."

Amistad reports to the town guards and tavern to discuss options.

Sir Albrecht nods to Amistad. "You have that reputation, Mr. Amistad; hunting trolls, overpowering Giants. But a dragon is a different matter, is it not?
Perhaps remain here and aid in a plan that can better use your bravery than a frontal assault."

Baxtaw-Walks back in the Archduke hall. How good is our smithy here in Gaul. I say build some them giant crossbow thingies. What will be hard to find is a strong tip of the bolt. I would be willing to donate my platinum to make bolt tip if you think it would be strong enough.

Onlyme are we waiting to split the platinum with the others in the group?

Learning of the dragon and its plans to set the city ablaze if the Duke does not hoist a red flag, Captain Bremen politely requests his captivity be completed elsewhere. He points out that he surrendered willingly (mostly), and that he has a case to prepare for, noting it wpuld be easier to concentrate in a safer location. He states that, should the dragon come, he will do what he can to help defend the Duke, town, and its maidens.

Bremen also suggests he be allowed to lead some men back to the tower to retrieve the cention tails. He acknowledges that using poison is not honorable, but also points out that facing a dragon is its own level of desperate, and that cention venom is crippling at best, deadly at worst. He shows off his own. Nerve-deadened hands as evidence of both the venom's power, and his own strength at resisting it.

Hearing about the coming of the dragon, Casper White returns to his rooms and searches his tomes and collected writings for any information on this creature named Scatha. Whether he finds anything or not, he prepares himself for aiding the Duke and Gaul. He is certain of this to be Gwanwen's will. After all, she welcomes the shedding of blood, for it is only in that crimson flow where forgiveness and discovery shall be found.
Winter is coming...
