Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 2021
Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 2021
On the morning of July 23rd, Fingers leads his group out of the city gates towards Frogmorton Ford a second time. They cross the river after lunchtime using the Ford, notifying the guardsmen that their intended purpose is to further explore the barrowdowns located a few miles on... entering the barrows this time.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
OOC: Were we going to bring some mounts/pack animals with us this time? If so, I still think we'd need an attendant or two...

Markd waits for his fellow adventurers to do their negotiations, knowing he aint much use for getting a good deal.

Bandy has a pack animal. We need two more if we're going to be able to carry the silver back, let alone anything else we find. Fingers can buy one. Does anyone else want a mount?
The new MU PC would be great.

"He's not?" asks Fingers, peering in confusion at Bandy's pony. "Then, uh...what?"
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
"E's a bleedin' pony, not a mule!" Bandy sighs. "But he'll help us carry stuff..."

"But if he can carry stuff, isn't he a"—starts Fingers. He decides it's not worth it and shrugs. "Okay, whatever. Anybody else got not-pack-animals that can carry stuff?"

There is my mule, Buttercup, named him after the flowers he keeps trying to snack on. He might be persuaded to carry some stuff if we ask him politely, or just strap it to his pack saddle and not give him a vote in the matter.

With fresh armor and the addition of both a pony and a mule, the party sets out across the Ford once more and heads east towards the crypts. Miraculously, it is not raining on you today - the skies are clear and blue with only tufts of puffy clouds drifting by. A cool summer morning (52 degrees) as warmed into the low 60s as you walk, crossing the fields of tall summer grass along the river.
You are about a mile from the river when you notice something off to your left - on the high-ground of a hill you spy some suspicious foliage about 200 yards away. As you pass it, you realize it is a constructed blind, looking back west towards the river ford. Behind it, you spot six orcs. There is an awkward moment as you both look at each other, both groups knowing you've been seen.

I think we are still awaiting Finger's attempts to secure mount watchers before we begin.

Sorry about that delay. Still pretty busy here, so if there's any way to expedite the RP on trying to find mount watchers, I'd really appreciate it.

Backdated Scene:
Sorry, didn't realize you were attempting that.
Fingers recruiting [2d6+1] = 7+1 = 8 [2d6+1] = 5+1 = 6 [2d6+1] = 7+1 = 8
Fingers recruiting [2d6+1] = 3+1 = 4 [2d6+1] = 6+1 = 7 [2d6+1] = 8+1 = 9

(Fingers can attempt to recruit three. He gets one.)
Fingers visits the Mercenary Camp to find any willing to venture across the river for the promise of certain reclamation of silver and possible death by gargoyles or loss of your soul to ghosts. One man is willing to come, accepting the duty of mule-tender as long as the others are handling the spooks and terrors.
Franken is a gruff man-at-arms, equipped with his own chainmail, shield, and longsword. You pay his weekly fee up front (-4gp, please), and agree that he'll get a half-share of treasure if his duties require more danger than expected.
You may now resume your normal adventuring.

Fingers readies his bow but tries to remain hidden. He waits before firing, however, to see if the orcs decide to flee or parley. If they're smart, they won't try tangling with a group that can kill gargoyles.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Ghostly Trial - Part II - 23 July 20
Markd, who left his newly acquired horse, Owen, to stable at the inn, takes his bow, crouches, and prepares to fire . But, he waits till the others fire first, not wanting to cause the battle.
If others fire, from either side, he will let loose a wild shot.

Bandy likewise readies his bow but does not fire.
"Does anyone speak orc?" he asks the rest of the group in a hushed tone.

Franken scratches the stubble on his square jaw dubiously. "Not that I'm wanting to step in, at all, but... You all know they're spyin' on the soldiers at the Ford, right?"
