Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021

While continuing to hold the door, Able casts Bless on his allies. Once done, he looks over his shoulder and sees the Sniffer-that-was-Idriss lying prone on the ground and shakes his head. He shouts to the Dimly, asking him to convey (to the goblins) a truce against the demons. Then he asks the others to use the holy water against the demons he is holding back.

Silvering the weapons was just a hope that they'd affect the sniffers and other infernal creatures. Able's Bless spell will get you +1 to hit/damage though.

Once we're out of this, we need to find a place to hole up. Maybe back into the woods outside the cave?

Are there any bonuses to damage with silver bolts?

That is an excellent question that you have not explored IC yet. Remember also that if you miss you have a 50% chance of hitting Ablesforth or Dolph because they're in melee.

Neegan holds off his shooting unless the tide of the battle changes.


It is the only weapon that he has that he believes will harm a demon. As his +1 hand axe is burried in the door that Ables forth is holding shut he fears that if pulls it from the door. it may break.

The door already broke - that was the critical fumble result instead of hitting Ablesforth. You can retrieve the axe as an action (without harming the axe), but it puts you in melee targeting range with Dolph and the two half-heads. The door cannot be resealed.

Neegan already rolled to fire his crossbow. We need to keep that action this round.

With Idriss lying in a bloody heap at their feet, the goblins fling wet gobs of burning pitch at the two demonspawn in the room with their slings. They splatter on the walls, leaving little oozing, flaming splotches. One manages to hit one of the demonspawn almost by accident, searing into its flesh. The demonspawn, meanwhile, continue to lunge ferociously at Dolph, sniffing his scent and leering, their mouths watering. The injured one grazes him with its claw (-2) before he swings back around with his mighty sword and hacks deeply into its flesh, sliding its severed body off his blade onto the ground unmoving. With one of the creatures on the floor, he parries the other more easily, keeping it at bay.

Ablesforth chants a prayer, invoking Eruanna's blessings on the party (+1 bonuses). He otherwise blocks the doorway, keeping the clambering mass of demonspawn at bay with his body, which they still have not clawed or maimed. The party hurls vials of holy water, trying to splash through the doorway onto the writhing forms. Dare's vial sails through, splashing upon a creature, which hisses and withdraws from view. Grimble and Neegan both managed to hit Ablesforth's broad back, splattering him with the holy liquid. Pendleton's throw goes wide and splashes on the wall.

Able continues to stand his ground, blocking the demons from crossing the threshold, while swearing about being hit in the back with his own holy water. He asks Rhybek or Dimly again to tell the goblins that, if they try to attack the party, he'll let the sniffers straight through to them. Maybe they could acts as guides for us, even. I got a bit o'coin to pay, tell 'em. Or a vial or two of holy water to use against these things.

Pendleton grapples with a choice he has to make. Help Idriss, who is uncomfortably close to the goblins? Or keep out of danger? He sighs, knowing what a gentleman must do.

He dashes forward to Idriss and binds his wounds, pulling him away from the front line in the process if it looks like it won't hurt him further.

Neegan pulls his axe from the door.

Holding for Dare and Grimble.

Dare advances alongside Pendleton as he recovers Idriss, keeping his bow trained on the goblins. He is prepared to fire should they attempt to move against his comrades.
