Idriss

"Let's save the consumables for another time. We can smoke them out another way.", The arcane Templar reaches into a pocket and withdraws an old boiled egg. He blows on it softly and casts it into the middle of the rats nesting area.

A twenty foot cubic cloud of stinking rotten gases emerges form the egg and covers the distant cave area. Idriss cast Stinking Cloud, the effects will last for about four rounds. Creatures caught in the cloud will be incapacitated even when it clears. Those rats and lizards, whatever that flee the area will be incapacitated for one round so if folk have clubs at the ready we can bash in the defenceless swarm.

The rat swarm may seem harmless but lots of nibbles will eventually bleed you dry so we should take them all out if we can. And store the bodies so that we can feed them to the lizards who nest in the other cavern.

Can't tell what is thought and what is spoken in that post. If it isn't Blue, or you don't explicitly state that it was relatyed to the rest, I don't feel comfortable acting on it. Just a heads up, if you want Ablesforth to follow a plan from/respond to Idriss, I need to know it was spoken and not an internal monologue. :)

Able looks with curiosity at the Templar-Mage, waiting to see what will happen and how he will produce smoke from an egg.

Idriss speaks

"Let's save the consumables for another time. We can smoke them out another way.",

Idriss
casts Stinking Cloud,

Idriss nods at the others to attack any rat fleeing from the cloud.

(Who is carrying torches? Is Rusty tracking torch/lantern inventory?)

Idriss tosses his boiled egg, a a brownish fog billowing out of it and filling the cavern beyond your torchlight. Even on this side of the magical gas, you can catch whiffs of the nauseating stench and it curdles your stomach. In the darkness of the cave depths beyond your sight, you hear a squeaking. It grows louder, and then deafening, as more and more rats join in to the fear, terror, and rattish vomiting.

Then the come. Giant rats, each about three feet long and the size of a large hunting dog, emerging out of the brown fog and into your torchlit circle. They are twitching, terrified, and squealing to a deafening pitch. Wave upon wave upon wave of them, dozens upon dozens... your group is utterly overwhelmed.

Each of you hacks furiously as you are awash in giant furry rat bodies up to your waists (or face to face, for the dwarves). You each dispatch as many as you can while they are consumed by their sickness but there are still so many left, climbing over the bodies of their now-dead brothers, coming at you with their sharp fangs in blind panic and rage.

(You flushed four dozen giant rats from the nests all at once. With seven characters, you killed 28 of them in four rounds of spell effect. Now begin round five with 19 giant rats remaining, swarming your group.)

I will let you re-roll that. Change your macro so that you use [1d8] instead of d6 for the battle axe per house rules.

Idriss

Casts Levitate upon himself and rises up to the ceiling (or 20'ft), out of the range of the giant whiskery nibblers. He looks up checking the ceiling doesn't hide any lizards mind or creepy spiders. From his vantage point he will encourage the group to get stuck in and hopefully the rats will scurry away.

I'll track lighting, but I don't know what folks have. Let's say Dare has Ables's lantern for now.

I can't help but think that if we saw that many rats, Able (or someone else) would have used a flask of oil on them while they were stupefied. And Able would have cast Bless. That would be a lot of retroactive stuff though.. What are your thoughts on that, Marullus? Ables's action will depend on that.

You were swarmed by 47 giant rats. I assumed that not getting bowled over and swatting as many as you could was priority.you didn't have time to pour out oil in advance. You could've cast Bless, but I didn't require rolls for the first 28 deaths. If you change your action, I need to bring some back to life and put them into the pile of attack rolls now. You can just as well cast Bless this round.

Thanks Marullus. That helps.

Able calls to Dare - or anyone, really - suggesting someone douse the mass of rats with oil. He then drops to one knee, hands on his setting maul. Eruanna, I'm asking fer blessings on these folks. Them's what come to do yer bidding. We need to get through these rats. He feels a new sense of confidence fill himself and sees his comrades fight a bit better than they were moments ago.Cast Bless, centering on himself.

Please note:
Bless fills the caster's allies with courage, but does not affect enemies within the affected area of 20' x 20'. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus and +1 on attack and damage rolls.

Pendleton recoils at the disgusting swarm of rats. "How unsanitary," he says. He draws a pinch of sand from a pocket and tosses it while speaking the words, "somnolentus somnolentus."

Sleep: [2d8] = 8

AoE targeting rats outside the melee area, to avoid catching PCs in the spell.

With a nimble flick of his wrists Dare tosses a bottle of oil from his pack and into the crowd of ravenous rats.

Dare tosses a lit flask of oil with deft precision, the fragile glassware splattering flame all over one of the rats. Its screaming takes on a frenzied pitch as it flails on the ground, most other rats giving it wide berth except one. (-1 rat) A second rat is on its way to dive at Dare when it is caught in the oil's overspray, dying with its brother. (crit fumble; -1 rat)

Ablesforth calls the blessing of Eruanna on the party, intoning his prayers, while Pendleton's arcane invocations cause eight rats near the rear of the pack to collapse in enchanted slumber. Idriss lifts himself deftly above the fray, hovering in the cavern above the heads of both the rats and his companions, shouting down encouraging words as the rats bite in frenzy at those who remain.

The rats swarm thickly towards the dwarves, whom they stand eye to eye with. Neegan knocks back three of the massive vermin with his shield, cutting one down with a powerful axe blow. (-1 rat) Three more come at Grimble, but he is less successful. The rats get inside his reach so he cannot effectively swing his heavy pick; two of the rats bowl him over to the ground, savaging him viciously with his teeth until he passes out from the pain. (-2, -2, unconscious, Save vs Poison please)

Dolph steps to the fore, facing two of the furry monsters to protect the group. His massive sword is too unwieldy in this situation, however, and he fails to strike a blow while one of the rats gets through his chainmail and savages his leg before he kicks it loose. (-2hp) Ablesforth fends off an attacking rat's maw with his maul and Pendleton likewise tries to kick away the rat which has chosen his flesh as a prize, but it glancingly bites him through his robes. (-1hp)

Eight rats asleep. Three more slain. Eight rats remaining.

Date: 14 July 2021, 11:26am
Light: Ablesforth's Lantern (until 2:00pm)
Effects: Bless on party (+1 to hit/dam) (12:25); Sleep on 8 rats (until 12:35); Levitation on Idriss (1:05)
Injuries: Grimble (mortally wounded, unconscious), Pendleton (minor wound), Dolph (superficial wound)

"Oh, yuck!" exclaims Pendleton as he skewers a rat with his rapier.

Able swings wildly at the rats, catching nothing but air.

"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6, dmg [1d8+2] = 6+2 = 8 Forgot to add in+1 for Bless, not that it will help much. 7 to hit, 9 to dmg.

Dare flashes his silver dagger and attempts to clear the rats from Grimble.

"How rude! Savage little hecklers!"
