Ablesforth passes his maul to Grimble, who takes the silver-plated weapon. With three of the half-headed demonspawn frozen in place and only one amongst the group, things are looking hopeful. It snarls and lunges at Neegan, who dodges backwards. Neegan's axe catches air while Grimble's first attempt to swing the setting maul is equally embarrassing. Dare slides in behind the creature and hits with his silver dagger (-3), gratified to see that it doesn't appear to be immediately healing.

Ablesforth calls upon Eruanna to freeze the sniffers currently outside the room as well as Idriss tries to bar their passage bodily. One of the creatures freezes, to but to his horror, the other three slam bodily into the wooden door and knock Idriss out of the way! The three other demonspawn charge into the room, hungry for carnage. One claws Dare (-2) while the other two also gang up on Neegan, their filthy claws raking at the air as he brings up his shield and keeps them at bay -- they are so virulent in their hate that one claws the spawn next to him in his haste to get at Neegan (Fumble, -3).

I thought Idriss, Able and Dolph we're using our bodies to block the doors without the wooden doors there (so they could force their way in). Whoops. Now to rethink our strategy.

Pendleton considers an experiment to determine whether these things can be put to sleep. Then he realizes that the demonspawn and the party members are intermixed. If the demonspawn cannot be put to sleep, he might put his own people to sleep. That would not be good.

So he hangs back, hoping his ring will protect him.

However you want to color it. The method isn't foolproof, and while they can't harm you, a pile of them shoving each other forward can still knock you out of the way (with or without the door for leverage). I've done STR checks every round that you were blocking doorways. Ablesforth, Idriss, and Dolph are all currently blocking the three room entrances (excepting that Idriss just got bowled over).

I wasn't disputing your mechanics, though I appreciate the explanation. Not noticing the strength rolls, I thought if they couldn't touch us, they couldn't pass by at all.
Anyhow, it seems like we need to fight these things now. If Able pours a bit of holy water on his mallet-that-counts-as-a-mace, can he attack the same turn? If so, can you add that into this action, please?


Seeing the odds worsen considerably, Able pulls out his mace and wades into the fray, freely giving up his holy protection to try and save the rest. He does not ask Dolph to do the same, but hopes the warrior will.

Ablesforth would know that dipping a weapon in holy water would have insufficient effect.

I just noticed Dare's THAC0 is posted as 13. Is that accurate? It seems really low for a 2nd/3rd level thief.

The demons remain fixed to their purpose - one going after Dare and the other three teaming up on Neegan. Idriss remains in his doorway, chanting his incantations with a flourish. As Dare dodges backwards away from his foe the party is surprised to see a second Dare joining the fray! The two Dares throw off the demonspawn enough that it misses them both.

Neegan faces the other three - Grimble and Ablesforth try to come to his aid but to no avail. Neegan is swift enough to bring his axe around just as the first sniffer comes at him, burying it in the creature's hot, moist flesh (-8), Dolph then roars forward, tossing his torch on the floor and drawing his massive zweihander to cut the demon down and drop it to the floor (-8). The creature twitches on the stone floor as its wounds begin to visibly knit. The other two sniffers dodge around the large templar and overbear Neegan to the ground, tackling the dwarf bodily under their weight (Crit: -6hp)(Crit: -1hp, tackle)

Able let's the others handle the fighting, instead focusing on the fallen sniffer. He kneels and pours a flask of holy water into the knitting wounds. He speaks in an unintelligible language, Yer time here's over. Each of you is gonna die.

Seeing Able reach for a flask, invisible Pendleton nudges him with the hilt of his silver dagger. "Save your holy water. This should work just as well to finish the sniffer off for good."

Able reminds Pendleton that he cannot use pointed weapons. He offers to switch, letting Pendleton finish the sniffer's life while Ablesforth bludgeons the rest. Or casts Bless on Dolph' weapon.
