Ablesforth and Neegan are only down 1hp each.
I do not think we are all good.

Are you saying you are down more than just one HP? Or are you saying that even just one hit point of damage is bad?Dram wrote:Ablesforth and Neegan are only down 1hp each.

Following the direction of Fingers as the expedition leader, the group waits until the following dawn to head out, ensuring that everyone is now completely hale.Zhym wrote:Fingers continues to keep watch out of a tower window. "We've got plenty of food. Let's get everyone healthy before we go looking for more trouble."
The rain begins overnight and continues steadily as the dim light of the dawn filters through the overcast skies. It is a sodden day with no sign that the rain will lighten up. Ablesforth emerges with the early morning light, using his divine sight to find and mark the traps in the yard. There are a plentiful amount - pit traps artfully disguised, much like those you found at the pavilion - and he marks each with sticks and rocks to keep the others from harm, casting it twice and working until it expires.Rusty Tincanne wrote:Ablesforth starts by walking slowly around the grounds, always keeping an eye out for enemies as well as the traps. He marks the traps with sticks, being careful not to trigger them. Once the yard is fully marked, he moves slowly toward the small, shed-like structures adjacent to the tower. He listens carefully as he approaches. He hopes the others are ready with missile weapons.

Neegan
I understood it as we both only had 1Hp each. Did I missunderstand?

Yes, you misunderstood. You were only missing 1hp.Dram wrote:I understood it as we both only had 1Hp each. Did I missunderstand?
After the second night's rest, everyone is healed.
Please deduct two days rations each. If you open a barrel of fish, it has 50 days preserved rations but is then unsellable.

2days deducted.
Able will lead an expedition to look at the sheds; north first, then the Eastern one. I am assuming he would have detected a trap on them with his spells, so he will just open them carefully, standing behind the doors as he does so. He will ask the others to stand back a distance, missile weapons ready.
what did Able find with detect magic on all the treasure found? Clearly the cloak is magical.
Anything else?

Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
buying a load of sheep to run them over all the traps might not please the Gwanwen followers but it is an effective method for ridding us of the dangers. Would have tried it in the goblin cave only we didn't have enough gold to buy them. Still we need to set the traps off until the detect traps spell works no more.
Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
Having checked the area thoroughly for traps, Ablesforth lifts the bar on the door of the north shed and swings it open. He is met by a chorus of deep-throated gorilla-like bellows -- within the room are ten creatures with short bluish gray quill-fur and bodies shaped like a hedgehog's but the size of a small dog. Their faces resemble that of a gorilla and eyes remind you of a cat's. Each creature has a pair of short horns, which it lowers as it charges at your group through the doorway as soon as it is opened.

Ablesforth rushes to close the door.
don't know if this is right. He gets a +2 for strength, so I figured it would work on a 1-4
Close the Door! (1-4) [1d6] = 1

If that doesn't work, Rhybek swings his axe like a great big baseball bat club, swiping at the hedgeapes.
Battle Axe [1d20+1] = 10+1 = 11 Damage [1d8+1] = 3+1 = 4
"Who the hell is breeding all of these weird creatures," he asks as he swings.

Fingers takes Sprinkles to a (non-trapped) spot around the side of the building, away from the combat, and commands him to stay. Then he lurks, waiting for an opportunity to strike one of the hedgeapes from behind.
I'm guessing with all that, Fingers won't actually get an attack this round?

Idriss
It certainly looks a centre for such beings. Chicken-lizards, golden egg laying beasts now these. Never saw any milk giving Cowbolds though or swamp Koads. Maybe we can round a few of these up and sell them in Gaul?

At least we haven't run into any Centaurpedes. (They kick up a lot of dust, I hear.)
Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
The ten spikey-furred, gorilla-faced, goat-horned creatures barrel through the doorway to freedom, making it out before Ablesforth has time to collect himself and slam the door - the wooden portal is slammed shut just as the last one passes through. Neegan looses a crossbow bolt, but it flies wide; Rhybek swings his axe at the dog-sized creatures, managing to keep them all at bay.
Fingers and his dog Sprinkles disappear as soon as the creatures are sighted, heading around the side of the tower, but otherwise out of immediate concern of the charging beasts. The creatures turn aggressive as they get free, taking out their rage on the party by trying to head-butt you with their horns. Three smack into Ablesforth as he tries to handle the door, but his armor negates the effect of their horn's impact. Idriss hangs back by Neegan, contemplating the nature of their strange appearance - two of the creatures catch him flat-footed and hit him hard in the shins, interrupting his moment of reverie. (-1, -2hp)

Rhybek again swats at the odd creatures with his battle axe...
Battle Axe [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21 Damage [1d8+1] = 1+1 = 2
And he tees off with a proper low swing, normally intended to take a foe out at the knees.

With his back to the door, Ablesforth brings his mail around with deadly force.
"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 11+2 = 13, dmg [1d8+2] = 8+2 = 10

Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
Fingers considers staying hidden. Maybe the little beasties would run off if not attacked? Too late for that, though. He attacks one from behind when he has a chance.
Spear +1 (melee) (THAC0 18): [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12, [1d6+2] = 3+2 = 5
+4 attack bonus, double damage not included.

Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
Fingers steps out of the shadows behind the running ape-hog herd, plunging his spear through the largest one. Its roar turns to a pathetic whine as it twitches and then falls still. (-10hp, dead)
The bulk of the herd directs towards Idriss, seeing the effective bites of their previous efforts. Four of the beasts plow into him, rushing right through his attempt at short sword defense and overbear him to the ground, biting his unarmored flesh. (-4, -4, -3, -1) Neegan tries hurriedly to reload his crossbow, but one of the creatures leaps into the air, head-butting him squarely in the chest. He loses his footing as well and lands on the ground, crossbow still unloaded. (Critical hit, -3hp, knockdown effect)
One unfortunate creature rushes at Ablesforth, its tiny, pointed teeth bared, but it is crushed into a boneless mass by his maul before it can bite him. (-10hp, dead) Three of them come at Rhybek, but their teeth are unable to find a chink in his banded mail, chewing ineffectively on its plates and straps. He brings his axe around in an effective low swing, cleaving one of the beasts clear in half with his blow. (Critical hit, -9hp, max damage)
With three of their number so brutally massacred, a wave of panic runs through the herd. The gorilla-like roars are now replaced by frightened hedgehog-like bleating. They pivot, trying to flee northward towards the forest's edge.
