Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021

Idriss

assists in piling the bodies up and the search. Kobolds are not noted book readers but didn't one cast some sort of spell earlier. So he will try to pick out any parchments and books. With everything finished, it might be wise to rest up, so he will make sure the first entrance door is bolted secure, perhaps we can house the animals inside for the rest of the night.

[Marullus]

Idriss notes the two scrolls found with the elvish garments. One is intelligible - a Ward vs Undead scroll. The other is in elvish magical writings. Idriss can read it, and the other scrolls he found earlier, once he has time to rest and memorize a Read Magic spell.

[Zhym]

"Ooooh!" says Fingers, suddenly interested. He takes a closer look at the cloak, poking around with his spear. If nothing jumps at him, he picks up the cloak and tries it on.

[Marullus]

Fingers picks up the elven cloak, which is easily large enough to envelope his teenage frame. He swings it over his shoulders...



...and blends effectively with the scenery behind him.

"Suh-WEEEET!" cheers Fingers. He moves around the room finding things to blend into: wall, barrels of fish, his dog. "Hey! I wonder if Sprinkles could wear it? It'd be great for keeping him from getting hurt when we're fighting people!"

"Can I keep it?" he asks plaintively.

Rhybek

Rhybek holds up the dwarven hand axe, "If you have no problems with me keeping this. It's good dwarven make, should go in the hands of one likely to use it properly and not for chopping wood, I think." He glances around, taking in the fact that he is likely one of the few who could even wield it in the first place.

[Zhym]

"Fine with me!" says a window that turns out to be Fingers.

"I wonder if that fancy headdress is worth anything," he says as he begins searching for hidden compartments again. "What kind of feathers do you think those are? And is this our tower now? What should we call it?"

[Marullus]

Fingers searches once more, but finds no secret compartments in the utilitarian watchtower.

[Zhym]

Fingers takes position at a window, Silmaril in hand. "Might as well settle in until Able comes around," he says.

[Rusty Tincanne]

Able responds to Fingers (and the rest of the group) with a comatose silence. He intends no offense, he just doesn't have much to say right now.

Rhybek

Rhybek travels down to the main level, retrieves his mule, makes sure he is safely secured in the tower on the main floor, then secures the doorway while the party rests a while.

[Zhym]

"Whadda you want to do after Able's good to go?" asks Fingers as he keeps watch out of the window. "Lug a bunch of fish and silver back to town for, what 38 gold pieces each? Clean this place up and make a claim to it? Are there any outbuildings we haven't checked out yet? The grounds are probably still lousy with traps. Or should we go adventure somewhere else?"

[Marullus]

The party chats while they rest. As dusk falls, your lookout spies a large winged draconic form silhouetted against the clouds above. It appears to have come from the southwest and it takes its time making wide circles over your tower for a while before returning whence it came. It seems your stone walls have kept you safe for the moment.

A day passes in the tower, the party all feeling better after a good rest. Fingers, Idriss, Sprinkles and Craige the Mule all seem to be back to their normal vigor after a good night's sleep and changing of bandages. Rhybek and Neegan still suffer from some worse injuries, while Ablesforth groggily regains consciousness the following afternoon.

Deduct one ration each, plus feed for the mule who is safe inside.

"Seems like we should take another day of rest to heal up some."

If it isn't too taxing, Rhybek would like to see if there is any sort of cart that is available or can be fashioned from barrel lids and loose boards. Then he will look for a way to lift the block of silver onto it.

Ablesforth finds it difficult to pray with his 2nd degree burns, but manages after a time. He listens intently to the sorry if the end of the battle, praising the others bravery in the face of such double-dealing dogs. He offers some deep, emotional truths and is rewarded with healing for the confessions.

Afterwards, he feels ready to take a look through the yard. He casts Locate Traps and notes the results to the others. Let's either trigger or mark them so's we don't get caught unawares. He helps in the construction of a wagon or sledge, as parts allow. He asks if Fingers is going up after those eggs with his cloak.

Part of Able's truths are that he doesn't have any interest in continuing adventuring here.
He wants to head to the goblin dungeons. He doesn't have any interest in owning this tower, though he'd help fix it up for the others. He plans to take his Templar vows.
He isn't really interested in the cloak (though Idriss might be) or the axe. He has detect magic memorized though, so we can check other stuff in the yard.
Can Fingers and the dwarf shoot the creatures on/in the barn from here? It would make procuring the treasure a bit easier.

Neegan- Looks over any items that may be of value. How far are from the village. We can clear this area and make it way station or outpost for Gaul.

I believe we're two days out from Gaul, walking. Maybe a bit less if you was to go straight. He reminds Neegan that Beth's Watch was one day, then we walked another. This area ain't so populated now though. That farmer Gus was gonna move here, and then there's the Trombley farm a day or two's walk north-and-east. But for the right person - a knight, or somesuch - you could make a case for a garrison to protect newcomers. Then he reminds them off the Giants, dragons, giant bees, etc. Not an easy life, to be sure.

Idriss takes himself when he can to a quiet room and goes through his Templar absolutions and casts Read Magic to be able to scribe the spells if he can learn them in his book.

For Idriss, he has taken a vow so will not stake a claim for ownership or 'salvage rights' of the tower or property nearby. However he will support the tenancies of folk who agree to build study and library rooms where those interested in faith and knowledge may come and mediate and study freely. He has acquisition of the spell scrolls and will be happy to transcribe a volume for a new founded tower or place of study.

Ablesforth, we can both commit to a Eruanna waystation, maybe restoring part of the chicken/lizard lodge for travellers and pilgrims who head to and fro the expanding frontier.

Before we go back to Gaul is would be prudent to actually map and note the surrounding building and land more accurately. The knowledge gained may be worth the trouble to do so and we have food and water for a few more days so use the time before we go back.

Rhybek isn't really interested in taking control of the tower and settling down any, though certainly it might be of interest to someone else. He would like to try and retrieve the block of solid silver and rest for a few days in town and then find a new adventure to tackle.

OOC: Goblin dungeons? I thought this venture was specifically to find this kobold tower. Or was the original original venture to find goblin dungeons?? It's been so long now...

We're going to go there but I wanted Able at a higher level before delving. Able wants to head to town and take his vows. Mr. Kent has a new character (Templar) ready to go.
