Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021

Neegans continues to work on his crossbow.

Fingers thwacks another arrow into the barrels to further intimidate the kobolds on the second floor while Neegan curses in dwarvish, unjamming his crossbow. Idriss hangs back thoughtfully, letting the assault deal with these stragglers and preserving his potent magics as he contemplates the more difficult battle above.

Ablesforth and Rhybek rush the kobold's hiding place with maul and axe swinging - the cornered kobolds mount what resistance they can. The two spearmen at the front catch Ablesforth (-5) and Rhybek (-1) with their pointed sticks before being cut down by the warriors' merciless blows. (two dead) Ablesforth swats away the spear of the last kobold warrior, while the last slinger dives at Rhybek's boots and tries to chew on his leg. (Only two kobolds remaining.)

Fingers resists the urge to fire into melee. He checks on Sprinkles instead. "How you doing, boy? Okay?" he asks while scratching his dog behind the ear.

Unless there's still one Fingers could fire at without firing into melee?

Unbalanced by the newest spear wound, Ablesforth ineffectively swings his weapon at close range. Stand still, ya mangy beast!

"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7, dmg [1d8+2] = 6+2 = 8


That puts Ablesforth at "barely standing," I believe. Neegan is welcome to charge in... [/hopeful]

[Spearmint]

Idriss continues to contemplate from the safety of the tower basement rooms. He looks at how useful his performance mask may be but he speaks no kobold. He will keep a watchful eye on other activities around the tower, maybe other kobolds or even heaven forbid, the red dragon being drawn to the place with the smoke and cries.

[Marullus]

With a mighty yell and swing of his axe, Rhybek slices cleanly through both of the remaining tiny dog-men. (Critical hit, cleave effect for multiple opponents) The lower tower falls silent as the last of the threat is removed. The trapdoor above to the third floor remains closed, the ladder smashed earlier by Ablesforth.

Neegan finishes loading his now-unjammed crossbow, ready for more action. Idriss keeps an eye out for approaching threats, seeing and hearing little beyond the raucous taunting of the dogmen on the fourth floor. Fingers coaxes Sprinkles out of hiding, the dog's tail thumping apologetically on the floor.

Rhybek turns to Idriss and asks, "How many did you say were on the third floor? If we borrow the ladder from the first floor, we should be able to clear that room if there aren't too many more. And," he adds, looking at Ablesforth, "No more smashing ladders if we're going to climb them, right?"

Fingers, down to about half his supply of arrows, looks for spent arrows he can recover and searches for any arrows the kobolds might have had.

[Marullus]

Fingers finds several bundles of arrows among the crates of purloined human goods on this first floor. He is able to refill his quiver.

Ablesforth shrugs with an apologetic smile. Sure. Didn't know my own strength,
is all. He spends a moment sifting through the rubble on the second level as he talks more. I can ask Eruanna t'freeze a bunch of 'em up 'fore we go up to the top level. That'll make things a bit easier. But a few might try to get out the winder. Idriss 'n' Fingers could cut any ropes they use. Or shoot 'em with their bows. But we've got t'git the last one above us first.
Once all the party is on the second level, Able pulls the ladder up and puts it in place for the next assault. Can't believe these critters wanted to eat us instead of talk. Now it's come t'this.

"I killed one, another was trying to escape the flames and get up to the fourth floor. I think there are maybe half a dozen of them. Sorry had not time to count properly. Maybe if we knock on the trap door they will want to parley, after all we have the advantage and they have no where else to go."

Able continues to search the rubble for anything that might help with their assault, such as shields, smoke bombs, etc.[/wishful thinking]

"Anyone got a plan for getting at the last ones?" asks Fingers. "Let's scout out the rest of this tower. If they left their food down here, maybe we can wait 'em out."

Rhybek takes a moment to calm his heated dwarven blood from the tide of battle and then searches the area, looking for food or supplies or anything that might be useful.

"I imagine when the assault began the larger kobolds took the most valuable and important stuff to the top floor with them."
