Expedition - Foxy: Bounty On The Goblin HQ - 02 June 2021

"Could have charmed one at least and got some labour out of him, pointless killing otherwise, especially for 13 ep. What goodies where they sneaking away?" Foxy searches the barrows looking for better goodies, lotions and potions.

"Nice knife you have there Miss Grizzly, seem to radiate a special quality with it." Foxy comments regarding the dispelling of the entangling roots of Clays' spell.

[Marullus]

Foxy double checks their meager and grimy goods, finding goblin-made housewares and clothing, ill-preserved food, and other items of import to a goblin fleeing its home but of no value in returning to the human settlement.

Halfpint will look for any arrows they might have had, so she can restock her supplies.

[Marullus]

Half-pint finds ten goblin made arrows with black Raven fletchings.

Finding his digging claws ineffective, Clay pauses. He balks at the idea of using his teeth to tear at the goblins' throats. Though he looks it, he is not a badger yet. He wonders what this means for future conflicts. Will he need to resort to biting his enemies one day? Certainly he did so as a child against his siblings, but now?

Halfpint restores her arrow count and continues on, knowing they need to get back to town as soon as possible.

The Grizzly Woman looks at her knife confused. She tries swiping at a bush and guffaws loudly as it cowers away from the iron blade. "Well would you know something like that. This is about as good a bushwacker as any cutlass I have seen. I bet you could walk through a briar patch straight and good like on an open plain with this Knife! Har har!"

She returns to gather the treasure and continues to march through the day with the party, though she keeps getting distracted by the Good Knife and trying it out on different plants they pass by.

You trudge onward, your slow pace seeming even slower amidst the rain and mud as the weather turns worse around you. Heavy rain pours all afternoon with thunder and lightning flashing and booming overhead. You haul your travois up and down each of the rolling foothills, hoping for the plains to level out, indicating you are at the outskirts of Gaul's farmland.

You have travelled the rest of the day, evening now closing in, the showers still pouring on the land. You crest a hill and look forward - you see the red dragon on the hill before you, preening its neck scales as the rain falls, steaming where it hits the heat of the creature's back. It stretches its impossibly-large wings, catching the rain experimentally and then pouring it onto the hillside. It doesn't seem to notice your noise amid the thunderclaps. Besides the ridgeline, you feel exposed - there's no trees nearby just now.

Baxtaw- Seeing the Dragon moves slowly back below the ridge line. Let us stash our goods and move quickly downwind of the dragon and warn the people of Gaul.

Clay also moves down hill, keeping it of sight of the dragon. You risk it if you want to,
Baxtaw, but whether Gaul has advance warning or not makes little difference if a dragon is involved. I will hide here until it passes.He digs furiously into the soil, burrowing deep, allowing the others to move in behind him. If it seems possible, he will go far enough to allow the travois in as well, suggesting the wolf pelts be left toward the entrance to cover their scent.

The Grizzly Woman backs down the ridge and tries to hide. Figuring that there won't be time for Clay to dig a hole big enough for everyone, she simply tries to get the bear to roll around on the hillside, and then does the same herself. She hopes to bury themselves beneath a thick layer of mud, like people burying themselves in the sand at the beach. If they can bury themselves near or beneath a large bush, the would be even better.

"Well if it is one side of the hill and we the other and it is heading away from us we should be okay if down wind. Enough time to put out a message in rocks on the hillside."

Foxy can tell by the stares that the lack of giant pebbles coming her way is a sign that folk think she might have got that 'thousand yard stare' visage. Feeling the shaking head disdain of others, Foxy will follow Baxtaw away from the dragon.
"Let us get off the hillside and skirt around the ridge, maybe aiming for Tombley's farm rather than going through the Farrows farm, might be closer to home."

Clay does not think it wise to stay out in the open with the dragon so near and tells Foxy so. We are moving at a snail's pace and it is already 7 in the evening. I'll stay here until it passes.

Halfpint slowly retreats and attempts to disappear wherever she might can.

[Dram]

Baxtaw- The village must be warned. At least give them a fighting chance. Baxtaw moves cautiously as he can towards the Tombley farm. Yes lets head towards the farm.

[Marullus]

Foxy: make the call. Do you sneak off now and risk being seen, or do you spend the time and hide first?

[Stirling]

have less risk of being seen by moving now than digging a giant hole and hoping the dragon, famished from dwarf flesh decides to burrow for his evening supper. Its' raining, we are on the other ridge out of view and should be able to move quickly enough.

[Marullus]

Under Foxy's direction, the group begins dragging their travois slowly through the mud and rain on this treeless ridge, Clay and Grizzly Woman coming only under protest.

Their hope of not being noticed is soon dashed. After a short while, the dragon flaps its wings to ascend and easily spies the group, slow as they are and only a few score yards from where they began. The dragon circles once then alights about 60' ahead of them on the crest of the ridge. Half-pint disappears into the brush before anyone notices.

The dragon rumbles internally, then speaks, it's tone bemused. "Turtles. You must be turtles, yes?
I thought you men! Two days and you are barely a wing flap from my fortress." The dragon tsks, or hisses, or both. It twines it's sinewy long neck to look askance with it's eye. "Do you not fear being eaten enough to hurry? Your dwarf friend was a bit... Loamy. Not pleasant. Do you not fear joining him?" it slides around, peering with it's other eye. "Do you not wish to hurry and warn them of my coming?"

Halfpint freezes and watches, trying to listen to what is being said. She is glad they weren't immediately eaten. That is a good sign. She knows she must wait it out, in case she is the only one to get to town to warn the citizens.
