Markd suggests they get a night's rest to help aid the wounded, and then visit the upper level and see about this ghost in the morning.

Bandy nods. "That sounds like a great idea."

Bandy prepares to bed down for a much needed rest under the watchful eyes of his friends.

"I suggest we stay on the second floor here... easier to protect the one trapdoor and we have a means of egress out the busted arrow slit there."

Right. I meant the top level of the tower. To face the spectre. I agree with heading to the bowels of the place afterwards if the ghost doesn't have what we want.

Bremen had also been trying to dissect out the venom sacs of a couple of the cention stingers.

Florian approves of a funeral pyre for the brave Neachdainn, its light aiding his ascent to the House of Baudh. The party works together to assemble a suitable bier in the gardens outside the tower. Florian gives a variety of florid speeches and crescendoing prayers as the fires begin to consume the fuel and then the body lying wrapped above.

The party pays their respects to the fallen boy as he is consumed (Feel free to post something) and settles themselves to a restful evening and night. Bremen tries to dissect the Cention anatomy, trying to manage the delicate work of finding their poison glands and extracting them, but he finds his hands shaking, his once-deft movements now clumsy and blunt. He ruptures the glands and fails in his efforts, the nerve damage from his near-death experience with the poison showing its deleterious effects.

As dusk approaches, a pair of hippogriffs appear in the sky, screaming their rage and frustration. They circle above the dead young hippogriff which lies a short distance from the tower in the fields but do not come close to the funeral bonfire or the party members gathered around it. (They're about 150' out. If you act against them, we'll play it out.)

The rest of the night passes uneventfully, leaving you ready to state your plans and open the trapdoor above your heads to enact them. You all feel a bit more hale with a good night's rest. (Natural healing rolls below)

During the process attended ceremony, Captain Bremen speaks up. Never easy to see a companion killed. Neach seemed a nice kid. Would have been nice to get to know him better. He awkwardly adds in that it's nice he gets a proper ceremony, rather than a mass grave on a field of battle.Nice thinking, Brother Florian. Let's avoid another run in with the hippogriffs.

Later, after laying out a seamless string of profanities over his new disability, Captain Bremen sets the remainder of the stingers in a pile with the treasure. He does the same hotel the warhammer when he finds that too difficult to manage, as well. He goes to bed on a foul mood, taking his watch as a chore.

Markd asks each how they might be feeling, and if they are ready for the day. Once everyone is, he'll ask for volunteers to go talk to the specter above.

Bandy Sandybanks

Bandy silently morns the dead hippogriph youth once again and wishes the parents a more favorable future, but he stays close to the bonfire and then quickly goes inside afterwards.

In the morning, feeling a bit better, but still not up to full strength, he asks Florian if he has any further healing he can offer.

Once that is resolved, he turns to Markd and says, "I'm ready to check out the third level of the tower now..."

Bandy and Florian are first up the ladder, cautiously opening the trapdoor above. The room above is an incredibly dusty and cobwebbed library dominated by a large table and chairs in the middle with shelving around all the walls. A translucent knight in platemail armor, the breastplate emblazoned with a white horse running, draws your attention. Despite your caution, he looks dubiously at you as the trapdoor peeps open. He speaks to you in a language you don't understand, but which sounds similar to that of the spectres in the burial mound who you encountered previously.

Lawful:
He challenges your right to be here and demands your identity.

I wasn't sure of HP prior to ascending the ladder. Where is Bremen? At 2 HP, I believe. He would have asked Florian for healing as well. And cautioned that we could wait a day in relative safety so we'd be in better overall health when meeting this thing.

Bremen will volunteer to be in the next up the ladder.

As Florian can only call upon Baudh's blessings so many times, he says that he'd prefer to wait for a more dire need. He'll defer to Markd or Irving's wisdom, though.

HP:
(AC 4) Bandy: 9 / 13
(AC 5) Bremen: 7 / 13
(AC 2) Markd: 19 / 19
(AC 4) Irving: 13 / 15
(AC 8) Florin: 6 / 6
(AC 6) Guaire: 7 / 7

Thanks for that. That's fine to move ahead with. I forgot he cast CLW on Bremen the day before. I just thought he was at 2 HP.

Third on the ladder, Bremen will be ready to try and identify the group to the Spectre. Just let me know if he can see and communicate, otherwise it's up to Florian, IIRC.

Bandy hisses to the others, "I can't understand what he's saying. Someone want to take my place who maybe can? It sounds like those ghosts in the burial mound, though I could only understand one of them there..."

Markd will also attend, though trying to hide his forehead enough that it wont interfere with the silver tongued among them.
He stays in the back where he can listen.

And this is where we need Irving to speak on behalf of the group using his CHA...

While he's no Irving, with a CHA of 15, Bremen isn't too, too bad.

As Bandy and Florian step down, Bremen pops his head through the hole. Understanding the implications of the ghost's message, he climbs through slowly and sits on the lip of the hole and tries speaking and pantomiming for the ghost. Using his 20 gold pieces, he draws the symbol of Baudh in the dust on the floor, then the shape of the relic. He offers the gold to the ghost and tries to communicate the group is peaceful. He also pushes the new warhammer in the ghost's direction - a gift, rescued from ghouls in the Corridor of Strength, which the group survived, below.
Bremen is a ranking soldier (Captain). He and the others are on a quest from Baudh - they are accompanied by a Baudhic cleric. The bishop that sent them had a vision of a relic that they are supposed to retrieve. They are looking for help.
Bremen asks if the group can do anything for the ghost - he is clearly a knight, and therefore higher in the chain of command from Baudh. He tries to explain that they have driven out the centions and kobolds already.
If things remain peaceful, Bremen will ask how it came to be that so many Baudhic priests became ghouls and skeletons.

He attempts to remember if he has ever heard tales of a knight or house with the crest of a running, white horse.

random dice rolls, which I was warned against providing previously... :P
Int 10 vs [1d20] = 8
CHA 15 vs [3d6] = 12
CHA 15 vs [4d6] = 20

Let's just hope that that warhammer and the gold lower the test to 3d6...

(The 4d6 roll stands. :) If you try another, roll 5d6.)

Bremen joins Bandy and Florian above, understanding a bit more of the spectre's intent than the other two. Bremen indicates that they are aligned with the priests of Baudh, showing off Florian and his holy symbol, and then offers a bribe in gold, showing they come looking for holy relics to take home with them.

The spectre frowns deeply, taking offense at the coins and scattering them across the floor with a blow from his translucent sword. He appears to be making his mind up about you and it isn't in your favor.

Lawful:
His dubiousness is shifting to hostility. Your offer of bribery is offensive to his honor as a knight. He holds little regard for priests unproven and he scoffs at Florian's obvious youth and naivety. He seems aware of the fallen priests below and ponders if you are of their ilk.

Any ideas? Bremen isn't the most patient person. He'd be willing to burn the tower down, then sift through the rubble.

Also, I had hoped offering the warhammer would have shifted him to a 3d6 test. Too bad.

Problem with pre-emptive rolls. Trying to downgrade to a 3d6 knowing you rolled and failed on the 4d6... If you already rolled it first, I feel more obligated to keep it.
