Still invisible, Winnie sits with the others. My staff, as you know, can provide light. I can also use my songs to to help us discern what magics Nastoreth has left behind.

"Present company excluded, I guess," says Fingers, glancing at Markd's Squad.
I'm not sure what to say as far as a plan of action. How far are we from the tower? Do we know the ways in? Obviously, it would be good to scope it out before barging in, but I don't know if there's any other planning or prep we should do first.

It is about 200 yards down the curtain wall walkway (upper door). Or the lower door is in the King's Estate. Or you can climb in from the top (where some gargoyles are roosting).
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Markd suggests spending an hour this morning (if he didnt do this in the previous evening) getting a complete tour of the tower so they know what they have to come back to in an emergency. (supplies, water, etc.)

They gave you a tour of the whole place last night. There is no food and no stores - the ghosts had no need to eat for the past centuries. They did wash and keep up all the pots and dishes, though. There is a well dug down from within the kitchen - checking it determines that it still accesses fresh water far below - a good resource in a siege.onlyme wrote:Markd suggests spending an hour this morning (if he didnt do this in the previous evening) getting a complete tour of the tower so they know what they have to come back to in an emergency. When pressed, they also reveal a secret door from the kitchen which leads to outside the curtain wall - a well-secured sally port by which the ghosts usually use to roam the countryside without passing through the city.
They also show you the stair down to the basement. There is a functional smithy - the heat from it's constant fires warming up the chill stone rooms of the keep above when they were used. Storage rooms reveal nothing of value - they are picked over and what remains is long-spoiled. There are hand-dug tunnels into the earth beyond which they say are the work of the crazed elf - they don't lead you into them.

well, we are here at these tunnels. or we can go look at the booby trapped estates. I am swamped at work for the foreseeable future, so am struggling to read posts, much less make decisions that affect other pcs.
I think we agreed we need to clear the town of various things, but not sure which one needs clearing first.

We had discussed trying to enter the wizard's tower. We rested and memorized new spells.
I could do whatever, though Winnie is interested in the magic items, mostly, and the undead haven't claimed them. (Markd's ghosts seem to have claimed everything in the building we're already in.) But we think the town is only full of zombies, we might stand a better chance against them. But it promises less reward because there is less trisk.

I've likewise been pretty busy. The recent slower pace of updates in this game is actually working out reasonably well for me that way.
We could go along the top of the curtain wall to the wizard's tower; the biggest risk is probably getting attacked by gargoyles—or Fingers not being able to pick a lock again. Or we could see what's up with the crazy elf; if it's digging tunnels, it doesn't sound like a banshee, at least.

Winnie reflects on what she knows of the crazy elf. It had left poor Aeora locked in that mausoleum for centuries, so it is unlikely he will impress her if he is even alive still. She asks Markd to ask the specters when they last saw the elf. Are we sure he is still alive?

"Yes, we believe so."
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Fingers eventually reaches a decision. "A wizard's tower probably has lots of good loot, but I don't like the idea of fighting swords that don't need people to swing them. The cursed elf, though...well, maybe they'll try to kill us, too, but at least we can try to talk to 'em. Ain't no reasoning with a sword. So I say we go talk to a nutso elf and see if we can remove a curse. At least as a start."

Winnie warms to the idea. Does anyone here speak Elf?

Well, there's a potential snag.Rusty Tincanne wrote:Does anyone here speak Elf?
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
Winnie recalls that she, herself, does in fact speak elf. Her best friend is Bianca, after all, and they whispered to each other in that tongue through most of their past adventures.

Winnie blushes invisibly.
Re: Expedition: Fingers/Treasure of Yoldessi Plains- 30 Aug
I hate when I say "We'll do the thing" and instead of having us do the thing, the DM asks how we do the thing. Not because the DM is being unfair or anything, but because it sometimes means there's something deadly that the DM is giving us a last chance to avoid.
So, yeah. Is there anything we need to do other than just head down to the tunnels where the mad elf is supposed to be and start exploring?

It's really too bad I can't preemptively cast Cure Light Wounds on people. You know, just in case we run into something nasty.
