Ablesforth swings his maul down and is rewarded with a crunch. Gore splatters his boots.
"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20, dmg [1d8+2] = 8+2 = 10

Are the furry lizards right on us, or in bow range? Or both?
Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
Both. Fingers is at the rear with his bow - he is unlikely to be swarmed if he drops back to the pits. He can safely shoot at least this round. On subsequent rounds it might be firing into melee depending on the ability to target.
Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
"Defend," says Fingers, commanding his dog to remain by his side and engage any attackers. His bow already at the ready, Fingers draws a bead on one of the lizard rats and fires with deadly aim.

Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
The lizard-rats swarm noisily as you wade into their nesting area. Half of the swarm darts in trying to drive you off while the other half hiss and run around pell-mell on the logs.
Finger's arrow picks one of the creatures off the top of the logs, skewering right through the tiny creature's head and flinging it backwards out of sight. (dead) One of the beasts runs at Fingers, but Sprinkles intercepts it, grabbing it by the neck and shaking it until it is dead. (dead) One also runs at Idriss and another at Neegan, both fending off the nimble attackers with missed blows of their own. One comes at Ablesforth who crushes it with his maul. (dead) Two of the beasts charge Rhybek at the front of the line, one of them managing to catch his ankle with its sharp teeth (-2). Two of the rats try to engage but squeal in terror as the other rats topple a log which lands on top of them, ending their cries abruptly. (2 dead) Almost a dozen rats continue to fight, defending their nest.

Rhybek
Rhybek drops his crossbow and takes a swing at one of the furry lizards with his axe...
Battle Axe [1d20+1] = 3+1 = 4 Damage [1d8+1] = 5+1 = 6
But he chops into a log more efficiently than he chops into one of the creatures.

"Good dog," says Fingers. He looks for another rat-lizard thing he can safely skewer with Silmaril.

Ablesforth swings with his maul again.
"Persuader" [1d20+2] = 8+2 = 10, dmg [1d8+2] = 6+2 = 8
Initiative [1d6] = 1 reroll, please!

Initiative re-roll is 2 (will paste it later).

Idriss
The Templar mage will swing his staff at one of the ratzards, trying to knock it down and out.
Attack roll with staff [1d20] = 17 damage [1d6] = 2
apologises for absence, UK free wi-fi tweaked and it knocked out access to gaming blogs for a week

Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
The place is mayhem. Ratzards scurry everywhere, snapping with their jaws to no effect while the group tries to catch their nimble forms with flailing weapons. Axes, mauls, and arrows swing through the air ineffectively. One of the ratzards sprinting about screams as it finds itself under Rhybek's boot, crushed quite by accident, and Idriss smashes another with his staff. (two dead)
The other rats, seeing flailing steel and almost half their number dead, begin squealing in contagious fear. The horde scampers over the logs, disappearing into the grasses beyond.

Rhybek
Rhybek acts as if he completely meant to crush the fuzzy lizard under his hobnail boot.
Then he takes a better look st their surroundings to see if he can spot anything of interest among the logs.

The logging pavilion still has an interesting array of bronze pulleys an winches strung throughout the rafters, which certainly catches the Rhybek's dwarven eye. They are sufficient for managing the massive logs you see stacked around you. (500lbs, equiv. 10,000cp) Ablesforth looks to the logs and finds them almost petrified - they've lain here so long that they're of questionable utility, at best. Behind and underneath the toppled log which the ratzards tumbled loose, you find a fleshless skeleton, long since consumed. It wears a copper disc-shaped amulet with a green patina hung from a golden chain. (Unestimated object.) Next to him is a one-foot cube of solid cast silver; it is too much for a single man or dwarf to lift, given the weight of the pure metal. (400lbs, equiv/ 4,000sp)

Re: Fingers: The Kobold Tower: Part II - 13 June 2021
Ablesforth is tempted to search for any materials that might be useful for building, such as block and tackle, but he won't be distracted from the imminent dangers yet. He uses a small sack to retrieve the necklace without touching it with his hands. If he can do so without dislodging the skull, he does so. Too bad about the logs. Can't be worked proper when they're hard as stone. Maybe we can drag that silver back to town. It'd feed a lot of mouths or pay for an addition to the Infirmary.
what size is the skeleton? Human, Kobold, dwarf? If a PC race, Ablesforth will recommend a burial.

Rhybek
Curious, Rhybek studies the cube of silver carefully, examining it for any signs of marks or symbols or writing on its surface. He tries to estimate its physical dimensions, as well.
"With the pulleys up there, we could always lift it - maybe onto a cart or something - and have Craige here pull it back to town."

"Sounds like a great way to get killed by kobolds," grouses Fingers. "All they'd have to do is come stabby us and arrow us when we're busy trying to load a big block of silver into a cart."
"Leave it," he says. "If we can clear out the tower, there'll be plenty of time to haul away loot. Until then, eyes on the prize. And the prize is the tower. Just so we're clear."

I weren't thinking of writing about it right now. Later. Like you said. Ablesforth gathers up some of the more solid-looking rat-lizard-things, indicating they might use the meat too pacify a few of the kobolds.
