Fingers snorts—partly from derision, but mostly because his nose was stopped up. He spits a greenish gobbet at the ground and clears his throat.

"More Sdubok crap," he says. "Fear Sdubok, tremble before Sdubok, blah blah blah Sdubok Sdubok Sdubok. I guess you could use this as a scroll to scare people if you were a goblin cleric. Doesn't do us much good, though. I'd throw it in the fire but I might need to wipe my butt later."

He takes a sour-faced look in the direction the last goblin ran off to. "I don't see why we'd want to stay anywhere near this camp. Let's get a good ways away, or at least out of sight."

"So is Stew-Bocck some sort of god? If its something a cleric could use, we might be able to sell it to one of those churches in Gaul. There's a friggin' nuff of them, one of them might pay us something."

Any better ideas then the secluded vale to the east, let me know. Its late and we'll need rest soon, unless we want to hazard marching through the night.

Fingers raises his arms in an exaggerated shrug. "Search me! Maybe? Or one of them god-kings? A chieftain that figures it's easier to rule if his gobs think he's a god?"

"What church in Gaul is going to want a goblin scroll? I didn't see a church of Sdubok anywhere."

"And I liked my TP idea," he mopes.

Baxtaw - Heads back with the others coming out of the darkness. We showed them gobbies. We best be moving out one got away. He will be bringing back friends.

I hate to retreat,but we know where a camping site is back yonder. We aint sure where one would be no matter how far we walk.

Silent wipes his blade clean, and prepares to leave, his face blank.

He smirks briefly at Fingers' antics with the scroll.

Everyone agrees it is time to move. They discuss this agreement, waiting for someone to make a decision and move.

"Well, come on," whines Fingers. He starts off toward the site across the stream and over the ridge, with Sprinkles right behind.

Markd likewise grabs his gear and follows, hoping the ones with better night vision will lead the procession to the known camping site.

Quiet does it. We know goblins are around. We may accidentally run into their friends.

Baxtaw- Begins to the last campsite they know of.Yes lets be off. If we run into some more baddies we best be ready.

Prior camp description:

They realize that the wagons are on the hilltop about 100 yards above the stream, and would provide a suitable place to watch the beer, cover from the elements, and firepits already prepared.

Up the bank to the east of the stream about 100 yards (the opposite side from the wagons), they find some stone outcroppings on the ridgeline. These will provide some cover while still allowing overwatch of the barrels. Darkness is quickly falling, however, and there isn't enough cover to count as shelter. A fire could be lit, but would reveal the location.

If they continue into the vale on the far side of the ridgeline about 80 yards downhill to the east, they will be more sheltered from the elements and have a more secluded spot for a fire, but will not be able to observe the barrels. A shift system on the ridgeline would be necessary if that were desired.

The group moves through the pitch dark as quiet as they can, following Baxtaw and his sharp elven vision. They descend through the stream valley, ford the small waterway, then up to the ridgeline beyond. Getting past the ridgeline to the grove where they think they might be more discreet, they set a quick camp with their gear, feeling the cold bite of the night on their wet feet.

What's the effect of not lighting a campfire—other than it being darker, of course?

Corbin wishes for the comfort of a fire against the cold night. But he likes the thought of not waking to a goblin's spear at his throat even more.
"We'll play it safe tonight. No fire. Can't afford men on the ridge either, at least not all night. We'll need men on watch here while we catch some rest."

If there is some greater disadvantage to camp without fire, I may change my mind. But this seems like the safer route.

Baxtaw is our infravision, so I would like him as a floater. Maybe watch from the ridge if he wants, or patrol every few hours.

Well, it is dark, so that is -4 penalty. Spellcasters only can memorize with eight hours of sleep, but that only applies to Carchannoi and Baxtaw. Without a fire, cold and wet, you all go unrested which could apply a -1 to rolls tomorrow.

What's the penalty for no rest? Maybe we might as well keep walking.

The penalty for no rest is similar. The real danger is wandering alone, tired, in the hills, in the dark. You have better-than-even odds of getting lost and having no idea where you are, and when you get jumped it is at -4 to -6.

Markd will take whatever watch he is needed, knowing others need their sleep in more organized shifts.
