The few remaining enemies on the South Side seems to be getting closer. Griffo decides that he should have time for one more volley of arrows before they will engage in melee. He fires 2 more arrows at the enemies furthest from the last spot that he say the Half-orc. He then plans to put his bow away and draw his sword and shield.

To hit with short bow (1-50 feet) [1d20+7] = 8+7 = 15, Damage [1d6+2] = 4+2 = 6

To hit with short bow (1-50 feet) [1d20+7] = 17+7 = 24, Damage [1d6+2] = 6+2 = 8

Day 1: Coast Trail (TOD: just after midnight)

Round 4

~ The faint reddish glow outlining the thing in the swirling fog fades away, yet the beast can still be seen by the now almost-expired light from the elf’s wand. It begins to slowly, lethargically spin around to face whatever struck it from behind, all the while still shaking its head in an apparent continued attempt to shrug off the effects of the blast from the elf’s staff.

The small dark humanoids of the southern line continue to stare at the beast until another rallying cry comes from the darkness behind them. They snap out of their stare with a renewed zest and charge towards the trail. The humanoids of the northern line were a bit quicker to react, as their focus was mostly garnered by the armored warrior now among them and cutting them down with his whirling axe. Six of them surround and attack the warrior as the others begin to charge towards the trail just like their southern counterparts. The injured humanoid archer draws back its bow with eyes wide and lets an arrow fly towards Caelvanna. The jet-black shaft misses the Wild elf’s neck by mere inches.

~ The elf mage with the funny hat fires off another red blast from the staff and it impacts the creature square in the right side with a dull but perceivable thud. From behind the beast in the middle of the trail, another reddish flash and piercing crackle erupt upon the creature’s left flank. Again the faint red glow instantly envelops the beast and those looking upon it see its grotesque, unnatural body more from the side now. Another rumble, much deeper this time, shakes the ground and echoes throughout the trees.

Both Caelvanna and Griffo continue to fire away at their targets. The halfling archer takes practiced aim and competently drops two more warriors in their tracks on the far left side of the ever-shrinking skirmish line. The Wild elf responds to the somehow still-standing archer with arrow through its neck by way of letting fly with two arrows of her own. They both hit, the first in the left shoulder and the other in the middle of the chest. Again the inhuman humanoid does not drop but smiles as it reaches back for another arrow.

The hooded half-elf just behind the archer duo quickly spins about and moves back toward the trail where the armored warrior was holding station over their young noble charge. He fires off two quick arrows at the approaching humanoids of the northern skirmish line and drops both of them. The burly guard near the rear stands up and fires off a single arrow, missing his target. He throws down the longbow and draws his longsword in preparation of eminent melee. The old man that had been kneeling down by the other, fallen burly guard, is now slumped over him.

The cousins Rachstaad, working as a well-oiled team, pull the unconscious Gentleman Billy back and away from the beast on the trail, coming to rest just short of the spot where the half-elf is firing arrows. They lie him down and both apply their clerical ministrations as Sheba jumps around in nervous anticipation. Although wounded, the armored soldier among the northern humanoid line continues to swing his axe with unnatural speed. Three of the six humanoid warriors surrounding him are killed and another injured.

Emm, continuing to hold station near the old man and young child hiding in the bushes, takes a more defensive posture and begins looking around her. She starts swinging her spear in a circle and looking for an apparent assailant. The two gnomes with the large packs move over to where the old man is slumped over the fallen burly guard and kneel down beside them.

There’s still no sign of Bog, Thalion, Lauranna, the older knight that flew through the air and hit the tree, the armored dwarf with the massive 2-handed war hammer or the cloaked halfling. The older half-elf couple continue to crouch down unmoving in a large fern opposite the hidden young nobleman.

Caelvanna's admiration quickly turns to frustration. "This is now how I imagined things playing out" she thinks to herself as she quickly slides her bow over her shoulder and, in a prepared motion, slides her short sword out from its scabbard on her belt.

"I'll deal with you now --" she says, slicing at the onrushing warrior --

"-- but don't think I've forgotten about you." she finishes, quickly glancing in the direction of her seemingly impenetrable foe.

To hit with short sword [1d20+1] = 3+1 = 4

She curses loudly as her preoccupation serves as enough of a distraction to prevent her from quickly dispatching of her newly arriving, and most definitely unwanted foe.

"Stupid melee." she mutters in obvious contempt, realizing she may need to survive without her trusted bow for longer than anticipated.

With practiced ease Griffo quickly shoulders his bow and draws his Long Sword and shield. Preparing for the dark skinned humanoid's approach. As soon as he gets in range Griffo Attacks with his sword. Wishing not for the last time that he was as skilled with the blade as he was with his bow.

To hit with Long Sword [1d20] = 7 Damage with Long Sword [1d8] = 3

Sorry, obviously I wasn't supposed to post in the main thread yet...
Bog suddenly appears further south of the formation of creatures. He silently rushes one of them that is set apart from the others. He swings once with his charge...

(not yet sure of the results of that attack...)

Then he attacks the creature with a flurry of blows...

To Hit, Longsword [1d20+2] = 1+2 = 3

To Hit, Longsword [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7

My actions haven't been anything that someone looking her way wouldn't be able to tell. If Caelvanna is going to perform any secret actions, I'll submit that via PM, but I figure if it's just a normal attack, I'll just post it here.

With the success Elwita has had in the Slaver's module (up until losing a level, that is), maybe the roller prefers dwarves and has a thing against half-orcs?

With one last glance down at Billy, Hartnid gestures for his cousin toward the warriors approaching the wizard. Taking up his flail, he quickly makes his way back to the strangely-garbed elf's side, intending to defend him from attackers. He'll strike out with his flail at whichever fighter approaches first.

Attack with flail: [1d20] = 3 to-hit, [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2 damage

Day 1: Coast Trail (TOD: just after midnight)

Round 5

~ As the unworldly creature in the swirling fog continues to try and turn upon the obvious yet unknown threat behind it, the elven mage hits it again in the right rear flank with another blast of reddish energy from his angry staff. He also reaches for something at his beltline but does not avert his eyes. From beyond the beast, yet another brilliant reddish flash and piercing crackle impacts it on its left side, this time noticeably stronger. The reddish glow from the discharge again envelops the beast and those looking upon it now unfortunately see even more detail and definition to its hideous, demonic-like form. The impact is followed by the deepest rumble and harshest shaking of the ground felt till present. The beast suddenly stops shaking its head and quickly snaps its attention to whatever struck it on the trail beyond. A large green orb of energy begins to form where its gazed is focused.

Meanwhile, the remaining small, dark-skinned humanoids close to melee range with those on or near the trail, affording a close up look for the first time. Despite their small size, they move surprisingly quick. They are between 40"-48" tall, with thin but muscular builds. They wear a strange kind of light leather armor and their weapons appear made of rough black stone. Their exposed skin is either black or colored so, with strange swirling reddish tattoo-like designs in many places. Their hair is long but matted with something that keeps it held together. Their glowing yellow eyes are wide as they snarl in anticipation.

The first ones reach Caelvanna and Griffo. The halfling archer meets his opponent with longsword and shield ready, slashing out but missing. The humanoid warrior swings its hand axe at Griffo determinedly, and also misses. Caelvanna is apparently still focused on her archer nemesis and suffers for the indiscretion, taking a piercing hit from her spear-wielding opponent. She lashes out with her short sword but cuts only air in response.

The half-elf archer just behind them, glowing short sword and matching dagger now to hand, engages his three humanoid opponents. Both of the warriors from the northern line miss with their spear attacks but the one from the southern line sticks him square in the back with its spear. The half-elf swings the glowing weapons masterfully in retort, dropping both northern enemies with deadly precision and turning to face the last one. The remaining burly guard meets his two opponents with a battle cry. The humanoid with the spear sticks him firmly but the one with a hand axe misses. His longsword swings mightily and the one’s head that injured him flies from its shoulders.

Hartnid and Ulrich, leaving the still-unconscious Gentleman Billy to the care of the older half-elf couple that came from the bushes to help, move to meet the four humanoid warriors approaching the elf mage battling the beast. The armored soldier, again with unnatural speed, runs down this group from behind and fells two of their number with his thirsty axe. Seeing the two dwarves move to intercept, he stops and turns his attention back northeast toward the six entangled humanoids just in time to receive a black arrow to the chest that penetrates deep. The dwarven cleric duo, holy symbols still-glowing red and weapons ready, meet the remaining two humanoid warriors before they can reach the elf. Both cousins miss with their hurried attacks and of the two humanoid warriors facing them, one manages to score a slight hit on Hartnid with its hand axe.

Crouching down behind her shield and facing behind them, Emm appears to utter some words and glances back towards her companions further west on the trail. The two wide-eyed gnomes appear to be offering their ministrations to the old man slumped over the fallen burly guard.

There’s still no sign of Bog, Thalion, Lauranna, the older knight that hit the tree, the armored dwarf or the cloaked halfling. The older half-elf couple are crouching down next to Billy and Sheba and the young nobleman is still hidden in the bushes and out of sight.

Caelvanna: 4 points of weapon damage
Hartnid: 1 point of weapon damage
Armored soldier: 21 points of weapon damage*

*************

Gentleman Billy: lying unconscious but stabilized; status unknown

Caelvanna flinches as her opponents spear pierces her. "That stings!" she growls. With a new determination, she slashes at her spear-wielding opponent with her short sword.

To hit with short sword [1d20+1] = 6+1 = 7

She watches her slashing attempt miss its mark; impressed with the nimbleness of the humanoid in front of her.

"I really need to get out of melee" she thinks to herself.

The gash left by the warrior's axe suddenly snaps Hartnid into focus. The world around him fades away as he becomes subsumed by his battle instincts, long since driven into him by relentless, constant military training. Almost imperceptibly, he digs his rear heel into the earth, adjusting his stance in coordination with the movements of his opponent. As if guided by Moradin himself, his flail begins to descend in a perfect arc against the axe-wielding figure.

Attack with flail: [1d20] = 20 to-hit, [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7 damage
