Travix takes the time to bind the hands and feet of the charmed orc, not sure that the magic will hold once it awakens to see its friends all slaughterd. He then ties a gag tightly around its mouth and head. He leaves the thug sleep next to the fire pit for now.

Moving back to the east door, the mage tries the handle to see if it is locked. If not, he cracks it open just far enough for a peek inside.

The east door is unlocked. Peering through the cracked door, Travix sees a passage that proceeds 20 feet before it turns left. There is a slight, smooth decline to the floor. The smell is one of dried meats and mustiness. A lit torch on the wall illuminates this short hall for the wizard but it does not look like the light continues past the corner.

Travix makes a mental note of what he sees and then goes to the next door to check it as well.

"Lets try to make a rough map of what we see in here before we go any further."

If nobody else is equipped with writing materials, the wizard begins a crude drawing of the place so far.

The north door is locked.

"Did any of the bodies we checked have a key?" Graela asks.

Manred looks blankly at Graela as if to say, "Well of course we couldn't think of that until after we tossed them down the chute, could we?" and then slips down into the tunnel to pat the bodies down for keys or other interesting items.

Travix reminds the elf that he had already checked over the dead orcs and found nothing.

"Can you simply kick it in Graela? Or perhaps Salty has some skill at opening a lock? I heard nothing from beyond the portal."

Graela shrugs at Travix's suggestion, and then lays into the door with her shoulder.

Force door: [1d20+1] = 19+1 = 20

Manred throws his hands into the air, clearly having second thoughts about this whole adventuring business, and takes his place behind Graela, wielding his spear from the second rank.

The dwarf's brawny shoulder heaves into the door and forces it slamming open against the wall. The group looks down a hallway 20 feet that then descends by stairs to end in a curtain closed over a doorway.

Salt Peter wipes some sleep crumbs out of his eyes as he starts out of his daze. "Hahr? Whazzah? Oh, ay, I've me lockpick right 'ere." Salt Peter unholsters his hand axe. "'S a bit loud, mind ye."

"Ain't no louder'n me busting tha door open we my shoulder!" Graela says with a smile, rubbing her arm. "Keep tha axe handy, Salty, we might need it here directly."

She then heads through the door and down the hallway, stopping at the top of the stairs.

There is a torch at the top of the stairs to illuminate the hallway and the stairs down to the curtained doorway. You can tell from here there is light on the other side of the curtain but no sounds other than the guttering torch beside you.

Travix fears that there is no right way to take. He wonders about acquiring some help from their slumbering orc friend. He looks to Manred as he climbs back up from below.

"Do you think it pays to wake up your buddy there and see if we can get a layout of this place from him? I don't like blindly walking around in here with all these hallways and stairways behind us that we haven't checked out yet. If we get trapped in here, it might be the last mistake we make."

Ok, thanks. I remember that now. Well, I guess it will have to be a case of "talk or die" then?

"Any way ta check for traps on the stairs before we go?" Graela asks looking back and forth between Salt Peter and Manred.

Salt Peter: "Roll a orc down 'em."

Great idea!!!

Travix grabs ahold of the tied orc and pushes him to the edge of the hole leading down, making sure he sees all of his dead friends below. Then he pushes him to the top step of the stairs and whispers into its disgusting ear, feigning that he is about to push him down the steps.

"If you want to live, tell us what we will find at the bottom of these steps."

If the orc doesn't understand common, he looks to the elf for a simple translation.

The orc understands common. His eyes widen, fear overcoming the anger when he realizes where he is. We're not allowed down here, only Madame! She does terrible things to rulebreakers! I never come down here! He twists and contorts, struggling to break free from his bonds.
