Salt Peter backs out with Travix, walking carefully backwards to keep his arrow pointed in the direction of the room. When Travix calls to Hennoth, he adds, "Yer gods kin get rid o' haints 'n speerits, aye?!"

Hennoth hustles down the steps and joins Travix and Tip. He puts a cap on his head and prepares to cast light on it. Mace in hand he is about to step into the room, eye wide and an intense expression on his face. Two steps and he pauses awkwardly. I'm not sure what a haint is but I'll do my best, and then he strides into the erratic shadow room.

I want to hear from Graela and Tip before I post again for Hennoth to make sure everyone is on the same page and Hennoth is not interfering with anyone's actions.

This is what I posted a few days ago. Did this occur? If not, this is what Graela does.

Tip:

The young halfling is relieved to see Hennoth arrive, as he has heard tales that priests can hold sway over the undead. "Master Hennoth, please help to expose what evil lies within this darkness!"

Hennoth blinks in the face of all the rapidly shifting light and shadow. Seeing the slowly advancing corpse he holds up his hammered metal sun amulet and begins a prayer to Pelor and His light, his mace held aloft in the other hand as plan B.

[2d6] = 6

The thing cringes for a second but then continues to advance on the boy. A throaty chuckles issues from the back of the room at this development. Hennoth falters a moment and then steps forward to swing his mace at the dead bandit.

Hennoth mace attack- to hit [1d20+1] = 17+1 = 18 damage [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

A devastating crush into the side of the thing's head almost topples it. It advances again though slower now. Hennoth backs up a few steps and begins an incantation as he touches the cap on his head. He ends with Pelor, give me Your sight and a pure white light shines forth from the lad's cap and boldly illuminates the entire room. Hissing can be heard from the depths of the now brightly lit room.

Travix smiles at the hissing noises, glad that they got the boy down here after all.

He rushes back into the room to see what he can see. He stays clear of the fighting, leaving the zombie for the others. He instead concentrates on whatever the things are cowering at the back of the room. He prepares to send them a jolt from one of his spells if he can see what they are up against.

Salt Peter looks for anything that would be improved by the addition of an arrow.

Bow: [1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18; Damage [1d6] = 2

Graela's spear goes sailing past the shambling bandit corpse and slides among the refuse on the floor, disappearing from sight, as a well-placed arrow from Salt Peter thunks into the bandit's head. The thing topples into the trash unmoving.

While the erratic shadows suddenly cease, the rolling sound from several places under the refuse resumes, this time converging at the back right corner of the room. Hennoth slowly advances on this corner with mace upraised. But Travix just barely spots some small tail disappearing into the trash at that back left corner again.

The goblin releases his desperate hug on Tip and instead shifts to cower behind the halfling. It always has tricks. You can't trust it, he hisses.

"Can't trust what?" Graela says to the goblin as she hoists a footman's pick. She advances cautiously alongside Hennoth to retrieve her spear. Once back in her hands, she stows her pick and pushes and pokes the rubbish aside with her spear, searching for the source of the eerie voice.

Travix is flummoxed by the rolling noises. He thinks he sees a rats tail.

If its rats, don't kill them. I want to try to communicate with them.

He waits to see what Graela finds in the rubbish.

Tip turns to the quaking goblin, "Calm yourself Mallet. What is it that you can tell us of this...thing? What do you mean it has tricks? What is 'It'?"

It's things he makes and sends out to spy for him, the goblin mutters. And they confuse and scare us with magic.

Hennoth and Graela suddenly feel many small things colliding with their feet to go along with the rolling sounds. While it is not painful, it is disconcerting because it is difficult to tell what it is through the strewn trash all over the floor. A second later something scurries out of the trash and up the lefthand wall, making for the exit to the room. In the clearer light shining from Hennoth's cap it at first looks like a misshapen opossum with extra body parts.

Kill it!!! Travix shouts out to the others.

He unleashes his magicks upon the creature, hoping to take it down before it can escape.

Magic Missile

I don't have any books with me at the moment. Is that a d4 +1 like in 1E?
You can roll damage if it will save time.
Thanks!

Tip:

Tip keeps a firm grip on Flower Mallet, and tries to to stay clear of any loosened projectiles. He struggles to maintain an outward appearance of calmness and asks of the goblin, "Who is 'He'? What is it that 'He' wants?"

[1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

A glowing projectile shoots from Travix's finger and strikes the center mass of the aberration scurrying across the wall. The smell of charred fur fills the air as the thing falls limp down into the trash.

Flower Mallet had been trying to answer Tip's question: the Bone King...he wants the magic in the mountain...
but when the thing falls off the wall he squeaks in alarm and rushes to that spot and begins stomping where the thing seemed to fall. Gesturing frantically, he seems to be urging the rest of you to join him. Quickly! The eyes sometimes live longer and can report!

Graela follows the goblin and heeds its urgent words, attempting to stab the misshapen creature through its eyes and head.
Spear attack: [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16, [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3

Travix blows the smoke from his finger when he sees the thing fall.

How many of them things are in here Mallet?

He keeps a close eye on the floor and walls as the others stomp out the things everlasting eyeballs.

The thing’s eyes are quickly ground to paste and mixed in with the crushed bone, brain, and blood that used to be its head, the spear head making short work of it. The little corpse looks like it used to be an opossum but with extra limbs of the same animal sewn to the side and and an extra long naked opossum tail. More disturbingly there look to be the long legs of a spider attached to the side as well and there is no indication how these came to be there- they almost look natural, as if born there.

The room is quiet, the stink of charred fur still in the air, and the torch light flickers as it should now against the wall though more faintly discernible with the strong clear light issuing from Hennoth’s cap. The boy leans over and reaches into the trash. He stands back up holding one of Travix’s ball bearings in his hand and lightly kicks another near his foot. This is what was running into us.

Flower Mallet seems relieved the thing is now dead and returns to being nervous about being down in this eerie place’s cellar. He seems to be trying to stay close to your party and a wall simultaneously. You never know with him but I never seen or heard of more than one in a place. They move alone.
