Tips for using the forum

#1 Post by ToniXX »

I wanted to share a few simple things that can help you use this forum more efficiently.

1. Put links to your PCs in your signature. A lot of us have put the names and campaigns of our characters in our signatures, and you can make them a clickable link (see my sig :) ) To do this, follow these steps:

- Click 'User Control Panel' in the upper-right of ANY page on the forums
- On the left, under options, click 'Profile'
- Then, under profile, click 'edit signature'
- Open a new browser window or a new tab in your browser. Navigate to your PCs character sheet.
- At the top of your PC character sheet post, you'll see "Post Subject" and then the subject will be a link.
- Right-click on this link and select 'Copy Link Location' (or something similar, depending on your browser)
- Go to the previous tab where you're editing your signature
- Enter the following BBCode: (square brackets replaced by curly ones, use square brackets!)
{url=viewtopic.php?f=20&t=244#p3586}Bruard Torbury, 4th level Cleric, Legacy of the Unknown{/url}
Right after "url=", paste the link you copied from your PC character sheet (shown in red above). The other text will be the text of the link, and can be anything you want... I use the players name, level and class, and then the campaign name.
- Do this for any other players you have in other games.
- Finally, make sure that the checkbox for "Disable BBCode" (below the signature box) is NOT CHECKED Thanks to Alethan for pointing this out
- Save your signature, and all of your posts will be updated.

2. Use multiple tabs in your browser window. Now, to quickly access your PC sheets, just find any of your posts. Instead of left-clicking the link in your sig, right-click it and select 'Open in new tab' (or something similar, depending on your browser). The new tab will jump right to your character for quick reference. You can then quickly switch between tabs in the browser window by pressing CTRL-TAB.

You can open multiple tabs if you'd like. Sometimes I have one open for the action thread, one for my character sheet, and a third showing my PM inbox.

Heh don't forget the fourth open for the die roller!!
:) I'm the same way.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

I never thought to do that, but this is a good idea and I just updated my signature accordingly.

Cool. This also helps other players if they need to look at your PC sheet based on your most recent post, or for whatever reason.

Or the right-click Open in new tab for the DM quick check.

I believe the format changed a bit at some point.

If you navigate to a character sheet, at the top of that page is the code you need to use to paste your character sheet into a forum post.
Dragon foot. Bamboo pole. Little mouse. Tiny boy.

Hi! I'm the post subject!

This is on the forums, not on the roller. At the top of EVERY post in EVERY thread, there's a line that says 'Post Subject' followed by the title of that particular post. Look at if for this post. It says 'Hi! I'm the post subject!' That post title is a link, and that's what you're looking for.

Sorry, didn't properly read through it all as I should have... trying to do too many things at once today.
