Late afternoon; October 3rd, 1937; the island of Sipora, Sumatra

The three pilots deftly avoid the beam of sunlight angling down into the sloping passage and they continue on through an archway and into a grand, rectangular chamber. There can be little doubt that THIS is the tomb of Tapatamani as a stone throne at the far end of the chamber has a skeleton still seated in it. In a depression on the right arm of the throne sits an immense, dusty green jewel….without question this is the Emerald 'Jewel of Sumatra' they had heard about from Doctor Manning and which the Nazi's were trying to get thier mitts on.

While none of the pilots knew that much about gemstones; this emerald was about the size of a closed fist; so they were guessing it would certainly fetch a LOT of dough if they could retrieve it and bring it back to Manning….

"Greetings, oh great and mighty Tapatamani!" Murdoch proclaims to the skeleton, speaking in whatever language he thinks that Tapatamani spoke in life, (Polynesian/Malay/Indonesian?). "In homage to your realm and your leadership, we wish to take this jewel to a new land so that your fame may spread far and wide! It is indeed a prestigious gift, which I am sure you must humbly accept!"

Murdoch repeats what he said in the other languages (just to be safe) as he approaches the throne to have a better look at it and the jewel.

I am sure it will not be as easy as picking the jewel from the throne and walk away. Murdoch! Please don't touch!

Jean-Claude will also approach the throne, studying the emerald and its current location closely. He keeps his hands behind him, trying not to trigger anything.

Max: given that Jean-Claude is a master mechanic and scrounger, will he get any bonuses while searching for the traps?

Jean-Claude Oulette studies the gem, the throne and the floor and eventually notices that a large rectangular section immediately in the front of the throne and extending some 20 feet out from the seat and almost the width of the room can be discerned in the dust. He's pretty sure it's the outline of a trap door, probably activated by some kind of lever in the throne's arm when the gem is lifted. He points it out to his fellow pilots and the quickly move to the sides of the room, off of the rectangular area.

At that point, Murdoch says; "Well, good job mon capitaine! Now let's grab this and go!", as he picks up the massive emerald. Sure enough, as he lifts it up, the arm of the chair moves and with a deep groan, the trap doors open and dust collapses into the deep, deep pit. While Jean-Claude and Nikolai scold an oblivious Murdoch, they suddenly start to hear the sound of stone grinding on stone and looking around, they notice the throne starting to sink down into the floor of the chamber....and then more alarmingly, they notice that the temple itself is starting to shake and vibrate....

Jean-Claude controls his temper. When we are safe, I will kick your ass.

We can't go back the way we came. What is on the throne side of the pit? If there is a visible opening or a wall that looks climbable, Jean-Claude heads for it, yelling for the others to follow.

OOC: No, there's no visible means of entry/exit on your side of the throne....there are narrow side spaces to either side of the trap....about a foot and a half wide on each side and then the room is fully open on the far side of the pit.......after the narrow, sloping tunnel with the sunlight there is the room with the dart traps and circular floor where you came down....with built in steps/hand-holds in the shaft leading up that could be climbed back up

Nikolai looks at the retreating Murdoch, then at Jean-Claude.

"I think he has the right idea, for once."

Nikolai will shimmy along the edge and go after Murdoch.

Sorry- I misread the description, so my previous post is wonky.

Jean-Claude follows the others, trying to move quickly AND carefully.

Late afternoon; October 3rd, 1937; the island of Sipora, Sumatra

The three pilots rushed through the shaking and crumbling temple; Murdoch stumbling a bit on his wounded leg as they ran through and up the sloping passage. The pilot with questionable sanity accidentally through and arm out into the beam of sunlight as he stumbled and caught himself on the ground. Ironically, the move saved him from a terrible wound as with the sound of a spring being released, a massive mounted blade snapped out and sliced through the space he would have occupied had he been standing straight and tall.

Jean-Claude and Nikolai were narrowly missed as well, but as they were out of the blade's range; they could only pop their eyes open in shocked surprise after the fact. Without missing a beat, Murdoch rose back up and took off again as bits and pieces of the ceiling and walls continued to rain down as the temple slowly shook apart. "Don't just stand there, HURRY UP!"; the American pilot cheerfully called out to his companions. Oulette turned his head and locked eyes with his fellow pilot from Russia. "If we get out of here; let's kill him and tell Chalifoux he just didn't make it through the temple". With that, they both took off after Murdoch....

The three men scrambled up the 'steps' and from there to the outside world as the temple finished collapsing behind them; covering all of them in a cloud of dust and and the echoes of the stones crashing down on top of each other; leaving the 3 gasping for air, coughing and laughing in relief of being alive. As the dust cleared, that's when they noticed......
