Chapter 3 > Redbrand Hideout

#1 Post by hedgeknight »

From the nearly overgrown tunnel in the woods, you follow a rough-hewn passage approximately 100 feet until it finally opens into a large natural cavern. A crevasse divides the cavern and is flanked by two rough stone columns that support the twenty-foot-high ceiling. Two arched wooden bridges span the chasm. A cool breeze blows through the cavern bringing with it the scents of mold, dank earth, and decaying flesh.

Need actions and a marching order.
Still haven't heard from the spellcasters about spells. I have my own solution for that.
Working on a map >if anyone can recommend a simple program for Mac Pro I'm all ears. EazyDraw sucks.

Edit: Found a pic of the crevasse. The group is at the mouth of the passage at the bottom of the map, right of the "N"

Edit 2:
Ceilings: Passages and chambers are 10 feet high unless otherwise indicated.
Doors: All doors are made of wood with iron handles, hinges, and built-in locks.
Light: Most areas are brightly lit by oil lamps in wall sconces.
Winter is coming...

I have my usual spells (Lvl. 1 are Sleep and Magic Missile) because I wasn't able to find a magic user to teach me anything else.

Ioriston whispers:
Perhaps I should stay near the back because I am not nearly as durable as the rest of you.
PC History:

Ioriston Erudleaf - Level Three Elven Wizard, Hedge's Adventures in the Realms (5e)
Loche - Level Three Pict Thief, The Lost City of the Pharaohs (1e)

Ok Lori, I got ya whispers Kael as he takes the lead. He then drops to a crouch and hugs the wall to the West to peer down the hallway. If clear he will then move to the rock by the South bridge to use it for cover. He tries his best to move quietly and will stop if he sees any Redbrands.

Once by the bridge he will take a look about before visually examining the bridge for defects or noticeable traps.

Actually, you're coming in at the BOTTOM of the map just right of the letter "N"; there is a bridge and a stone pillar just ahead of you though and passageways leading off to the east and west.

Aslaan

As Kael investigates nearby, Aslaan has arrow nocked and is carefully scanning the further end of the cavern, especially the far tunnel exits.

Whispering Somebody want to take a glance in that tunnel to the left here?

The corridor to the east seems to turn after a few feet, and the western corridor runs about 15 feet and then there are descending steps. Kael makes a mental note of both these corridors as he sidles up beside the stone pillar and examines the bridge, looking for defects or traps. While looking, he hears the sound of skittering or scratching on the other side of the huge pillar...
Kael > Roll a Investigation check (Intelligence).

Aslaan covers him, arrow ready, scanning the far end of the cavern. He sees nothing down there, but suddenly his eyes catch movement along the side of the pillar Kael is crouched against. About twenty feet up, claws holding it against the side of the pillar, a strange creature is looking at him.

The bridge is made of wooden planks and has no rails, but other than that, it looks solid enough to use, at least in your opinion.

As long as you come far enough out of the tunnel to see the cavern, yes, you do. It is hanging off the side of the pillar, just looking at all of you, curiously.
For Ioriston >
In your mind, you hear a slight cackle followed by a whisper, "Oh my, one of the fair folk! Have you come to (giggle) bring me something to eat?"

Spells posted on character sheet

Entering the cavern, Gerland stays to the back of the party. Having come far to close to leaving this plane for that of his god, Gerland knows how fragile life is. He keeps his crossbow and and loaded.

Aslaan

That large eye smells of ominous potential so gaze is averted just enough to not be direct but to be able to notice any change in position.

Bow is not quite pointed directly at the creature so as not to be too provocative. Holding still.

deception roll (Cha)-deception (Cha) [1d20-1] = 1-1 = 0

A stunningly bad performance right out of the gate! Yee-haw!

Ioriston's attempt to identify Eye-Spy over there:

Kelton also enters the chamber quietly. He hugs the west wall until he notices the creature on the pillar. He then whispers to Kael.

Pssssst! Look up.

Everyone who looks at the creature, needs to roll a Deception check (vs. Charisma).

Gerland looks at the strange one-eyed creature and then gasps in surprise.
"Another of the pointy-eared folk, eh?" it titters and giggles. "And a priest too. You come to save me, priest?" And Gerland is even more surprised when he realizes, the thing is speaking to him telepathically!
Ioriston's brain has been churning ever since he laid eyes on the strange creature. And now, he thinks he knows what it is...
It's a Nothic > once wizards who unlocked powerful magics their minds could not handle > Nothics are attracted to magical residues.

Deception Check: [1d20-1] = 3-1 = 2

Ioriston narrows his eyes and whispers:"I know this creature. The Redbrand wizard is either powerful or foolhardy."
