Um, I'm not one to boast but....

Aslaan summoned and commanded a powerful green dragon and she arrived and did exactly as he commanded. So yeah, Aslaan is was pretty bad-ass. ;)

Aslaan IS indeed bad-ass and so is Ioriston.
And...thanks to the reminder by Ogre Mage, they may not be quite dead...just mostly dead. (Cue the Princess Bride scene  ).
Checking the death saving throw rules as we speak...er...type!

Critical Update:

According to the 5E rules on Dropping to 0 Hit Points, "Massive damage can kill you instantly. When damage reduces you to 0 hit points and there is damage remaining, you die if the remaining damage equals or exceeds your hit point maximum."

Ioriston's max hp is 22, so he is only mostly dead...and can still be saved.
Aslaan's max hp is 48, so he is merely dead...and can still be saved.

Technically, by the rules, "if damage reduces you to 0 hit points and fails to kill you, you fall unconscious. This unconsciousness ends if you regain any hit points."

Now, onto the death saving throw: "Whenever you start your turn with 0 hit points, you must make a special saving throw, called a death saving throw, to determine whether you creep closer to death or hang onto life. Unlike other saving throws, this one isn't tied to any ability score. You are in the hands of fate now, aided only by spells and features that improve your chances of succeeding on a saving throw.
Roll a d20. If the roll is 10 or higher, you succeed. Otherwise, you fail. A success or failure has no effect by itself. On your third success, you become stable. On your third failure, you die. The successes and failures don't need to be consecutive; keep track of both until you collect three of a kind. The number of both is reset to zero when you regain any hit points or become stable."

Rolling 1 or 20:
When you make a death saving throw and roll a 1 on the d20, it counts as two failures. If you
roll a 20 on the d20, you regain 1 hit point.

Damage at 0 Hit Points:
If you take any damage while you have 0 hit points, you suffer a death saving throw failure. If the damage is from a critical hit, you suffer two failures instead. If the damage equals or exceeds
your hit point maximum, you suffer instant death.

So, in short, both Aslaan and Ioriston are still alive...barely and need to make a death saving throw for this round. Good luck!

I figured Aslaan and Ioriston had really low rolls for the HP leveling up, and then figured that while Jack knew they were dead (sic), Uilon would just think they're unconscious.

I really wanted Uilon to stay in bear shape because the bear had (with spell burns) a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 53 HP, but because level 3 druids can't cast (e.g. cure) while in beast form, Uilon had to shape back into normal form. Then I see that my only prepared cure spell must be cast using a bonus action, but it takes a bonus action to unshape - aargh! So, Uilon used his action to try and move at least one of them away from getting hit with area affect attacks (thinking they were just unconscious and bleeding out).

So it's good that I didn't metagame, and got Uilon ready to try and cure them eventho Jack thought Uilon would just waste the spell because Uilon didn't know they were dead.

And Uilon acted on instinct...and that probably saved Aslaan, and might save Ioriston too.

Gerland (20) and Uilon (12) are before Aslaan (11) and Ioriston (6) in initiative, so for round 6 I think G&U's cure spells mean A&I don't have to make death saving throws unless enemies attack A&I before (11) and (6) respectively and again take them below 0 HP. Evenso they're then back to 0 death saving successes and failures.

Alrighty fellers > that's the game...for now.

I'll be glad to post in your private threads should you want to tie up any loose ends. You do have a dragon's egg to do something with after all. ;)

Very glad for your posts and keeping up with the game, as well as keeping me going. All of you are a great group of players.

Back at you soon.

Many thanks hedge. Loved the pictures, loved the surprise of finding out that Haeredeth could potentially be a big bad, and her surprising end!

The upcoming xp post has me confused. So you mean the game is just on hiatus? I was thinking the announcement was that the game was ending altogether. Either way, thank you for a great game.

And if this is just a hiatus then I look forward to the next chapter.

Happy Friday, fellers!
Just posted the epilogue with accompanying map. Feel free to respond there if you'd like or in your private threads.

Also posted XP > update your sheets if you advanced a level ;)

Someone asked why post xp if we don't plan to continue the game. Well, I do plan to come back to the game some time in the future; likely toward year's end. If you're still around and would like to continue, I'd love for all of you to be there.
You are great players and it's been a real pleasure learning 5E and gaming with you!

Thanks Rob > I wish I could add more of each.
My meager illustrations and photos pale in comparison to the likes of Inferno and Grog!
