Re: Chapter 13: Hell Mouth of the Dark Mother
Long Bo was already stowing his sling when he hears the words of the paladin. He is disgusted that he cant really help from his position, but doesn't want to injure any of his friends in the process.
He is content to wait out the battle in the back, keeping an eye on the shaft behind him in case any other unfriendly's try to enter the fight.

Urdur keeps his torch ready, wishing he we're more useful in a fight.
How do we know you're not a donkey-brained man?
Re: Chapter 13: Hell Mouth of the Dark Mother
Within the Hell Mouth, the Rushmoors, Gran March, Greyhawk
Day Ten. Afternoon. Tuesday, October 25th, 576 CY
Cloudy, damp, cold, foggy
Brevos, Grothnak, Pelias and Telkis seem powerless to stop the unliving victims of heinous, unspeakable rites.
The other heroes are trapped behind them in the claustrophobic tunnel, unable to aid in the fierce battle!
Frantic, grasping claws of the dead reach for the brave warriors.
Telkis' morningstar batters away two hungry, clutching hands (Z4).
Defiant, Grothnak snarls into the dead face of a defiled sufferer (Z6) as it slowly strangles him to death. (-1hp)
Another debased innocent (Z7), diabolically profaned by the sinister powers of Briarsgate, seizes Pelias by the throat. Then she nearly snaps the neck of her would-be savior (-10hp, Pelias)!
Actions?!
Map:
One square = 10 feet. Z = the undead.
Cutaway View:
West is left. East is right.
PCs' front rank is near the red "X." The undead are at "U." The oozing horror is at "O." A dead cultist is at "C."
Rolls and Rulings (non-required reading):

Grothnak chokes up on his halberd to compensate for the close quarters. The squish of his blade into rotting flesh is satisfying.
Vadok (Halberd +1) (THAC0 18): [1d20+2] = 17+2 = 19, Dmg [1d10+4] = 5+4 = 9 (S/M) [2d6+4] = 8+4 = 12 (L)

Mouser, with no opportunity to help, resorts to cheering on his comrades in battle, "You can finish these bastards! There are only 3 left! You got this!"
Re: Chapter 13: Hell Mouth of the Dark Mother
Hoom Feethos:
Hoom watches the undead creature continue its grip around Grothnak neck wondering quietly in the back about blackberry tarts. "I wonder if blackberries are in season yet?" he says quizzically to himself.

Pip punches ineffectively at the debased being strangling Pelias, hoping to free him.
Pip Fist Attack (ThAC0 20) [1d20] = 7 Damage [1d4] = 4
I don't see Pelias' opponent near me, but I figure it's got to be by Pelias, yes?

Re: Chapter 13: Hell Mouth of the Dark Mother
Pelias thrusts to clarify, with his SWORD at the zombie with great force...but little accuracy.
Attack with long sword +1 (THAC0 18) [1d20+1] = 7+1 = 8, damage [1d8+1] = 8+1 = 9

Re: Chapter 13: Hell Mouth of the Dark Mother
Telkis, seeing Pelias throttled nearly to death by the undead woman, loses his... composure. Bringing Cranach up and over his head two-handed, he slams it full force into the thing’s chin with a wild shriek:
Re: Chapter 13: Hell Mouth of the Dark Mother
letting out a scream of rage and frustration Brevos takes a looping overhand strike at the zombie Z7
[1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17
[1d8+1] = 8+1 = 9
[1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17
[1d8+1] = 8+1 = 9

Bo is glad to see that the fighters are extracting their revenge upon the unfortunate undead with great vigor.
He keeps one eye on the hole behind them and the other on Hoom, who seems to be babbling something about fruit of all things.

The cleric keeps a careful eye on her companions, judging their wounds to see if she needs to use her final bit of healing magic. Fortunately, nobody seems to be in that dire of a strait quite yet.

Urdur watches helplessly from the back. He continues to keep his torch ready, but knows it would be suicide to try to attack one of the remaining undead with it. He hopes the fight ends soon.

Within the Hell Mouth, the Rushmoors, Gran March, Greyhawk
Day Ten. Afternoon. Tuesday, October 25th, 576 CY
Cloudy, damp, cold, foggy
As they weep in anguish and despair, the excruciated, mangled horrors toil to choke Grothnak and Pelias to death.
Pelias' sword arm goes numb. He feels his life force being strangled out of him. Swimming black shapes occlude his sight. Gasping for air, the holy warrior cannot strike true.
In rage and fury, Brevos, Grothnak, Pip and Telkis attack the last three sobbing undead victims of the Cult.
Pip cannot land a blow but Grothnak brutally cleaves apart the monstrous creature choking him (Z6) in a gruesome harvest of rotting brains, gore and bone.
With a fiery blue blur, Brevos' blade savagely dismembers the maimed woman strangling Pelias (Z7), freeing the paladin of Hookhill from her deadly embrace.
Telkis attacks the last thing standing with his morningstar (Z4), imploding the skull of Avril Hollysword's kin with a sickening crunch.
The heinous tortured thralls are dead. Their shattered severed forms lie splayed at the heroes' feet.
Suddenly, the alien music can be heard again. The eerie piping must have resumed at some point during the shocking fray. It echoes once more from all directions...
...beckoning...
Actions?
Map:
One square = 10 feet. Z = the undead. C5 = Pelias' unconscious, bound captive.
Cutaway View:
West is left. East is right.
PCs' front rank is near the red "X." The oozing horror is at "O." A dead cultist is at "C."

Re: Chapter 13: Hell Mouth of the Dark Mother
Already waving around a sprig of dried mistletoe, Long Bo seeks out Telkis, who he deems to be the most injured of the party.
In this hellish place however, the druids natural herbal healing does little to help the brave yet diminutive fighter.
CLW [1d8] = 2
"That eerie music again? I take that as a good sign. It might mean that they think we've fled off into the swamp. We should press on, as carefully and quietly as possible."
Bo looks around for any reasonable spot to quickly stash the dead bodies.

"Thanks, druid," says Telkis, working a kink out of his neck. "I'll take whatever I can get."
As he absentmindedly wipes zombie filth from his morningstar, he examines the walls, floor and ceiling in their immediate surroundings looking for signs of imminent collapse or other immediate danger. "This is a real bunghole of a den, I'll tell you. Can't figure why anyone would want to live in here. Guess it helps if you're brainwashed. Or a mindless zombie."

The cleric quickly examines each of the fighters, deciding that nobody looks particularly worse for wear in relation to the others. She chooses not to ask for the glory of Tritherion's blessings at this time.
