Brevos will draw Brood and Charge in beside Grothnak trying to bust their line so can't get leverage on us. Like a gunner trying to bust the wedge on a kickoff. (which ever number is the middle of their line)

[1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21
[1d8+1] = 5+1 = 6

Telkis braces himself against the onrush as best he can: Seeing Mouser getting overwhelmed, he grabs the thief’s belt with one hand, braces, and tries to pop one of the cultists in the mouth with the butt of Cranach:

Bo is just about to go into his long schpeel about not killing innocent townsfolk, even if they are hooded like some kind of evil cultists. But when he sees that some of his mates are already taking care not to kill these people, he keeps his mouth shut for once.

He spins his spear around like a martial artist and tries to smash the butt into the side of the head of the closest marauder. C1

But he only gets into the way of the real fighters.

Spear Attack [1d20] = 4 Damage [1d6] = 3

Pelias cannot bear to permanently harm the robed figures. What if the Gades are under those robes? he wonders.

He swings at a robed figure with the flat of his blade, hoping to send him/her into a deep sleep, but is distracted by his guilt at failing to protect Felicity and her family.

Subdue with long sword +1 (THAC0 18) [1d20+1] = 6+1 = 7, damage [1d8+1] = 3+1 = 4

If Pelias says that out loud—and Grothnak can hear him—the half-orc turns the flat of his blade, ashamed of his blood lust.

Urdur begins a quick incantation, targeting any of the cultists still advancing on them.

Casts Hypnotism on as many cultists as he can target.

At the end of his incantation, he says to the cultists, "Aren't you weary from all this activity? Sleep now on the soft earth!"

The Rushmoors, Gran March, Greyhawk
Day Ten. Early Afternoon. Tuesday, October 25th, 576 CY
Cloudy, damp, cold, foggy

Beneath the earth...

Image

...far from the sight of their gods, the heroes are pressed by the vicious crush of fanatical hooded enemies... "INTO THE PIT!"

Jolted back hard, Mouser loses his balance at the edge of the cliff!

Pip is too far away to help! Telkis tries to hold back the charging throng and reach behind himself to save Mouser, but can't grab him!

Mouser falls into the maw! He desperately tries to hit the jutting ledge 12 feet below! (Mouser please Save vs Dex on 1d20 to succeed!)

Above him, Pelias tempers his wrath, wondering, "What if the Gades are under those robes?"

Suddenly Brevos and Grothnak rend asunder two of their deadly adversaries (C2 and C1), merciless blades reaping a ghastly harvest of blood and entrails.

Despite the carnage to their insidious brethren, the relentless cultists drive forward without hesitation or fear! "KILL THE INFIDELS!"
Pelias is pushed back again (by C3), slamming into Urdur, disrupting his bewitching, hypnotic sorcery!
Small of frame, Telkis is shoved right over the edge (by C4)! The gnome warrior tries to twist his body to hit the ledge below! (Telkis please Save vs Dex on 1d20 to succeed!)
Grothnak is driven back (by C6), crashing into Brevos, pushing him to the precipice.
Unable to retreat south, Hoom is forced to the edge of the sheer drop (by C7). (Hoom please Save vs Dex on 1d20 to avoid falling in!)

Ingrid devoutly abjures Trithereon for divine aid in this dark hour of need. Her prayers are answered and one of the ferocious acolytes (C4) is suddenly frozen stock still, mid-cry!

Bo and Pelias fail to humanely subdue one ruthless hellion (C3).
But Grothnak's fearsome blade splits a skull, along with the hood that shrouds it, revealing the dead face of Hulbar Onfre, constable of Briarsgate.

Image

Brevos slashes wide around another enemy (C7) and slips in the mud at the threshold of the maw. (Crit fumble. Brevos, please Save vs Dex on 1d20 to avoid falling)

Pip, at the edge himself, puts one hand on Urdur's back and one on Ingrid's, to help them maintain their footing, and catch them if they fall.

Hoom Feethos:

Hoom move forward away from the edge of the cliff to the dangling rope. He grips the rope in his off hand and wraps his leg of the same side around the rope so when pushed he will swing.

Dex 19 [1d20] = 14

As the cultist pushes into Hoom, Hoom grabs onto the cultists clothing and using its own momentum against it, pulls him towards the edge of the cliff in which Hoom is now swing towards. As the rope swing hits it apex Hoom lets go of the cultist to allow him fall below.

Grapple [1d20] = 17

Bo calls out to his friends as the scrum rages on.

"We didn't slog through that shite for the last 2 days just to be pushed to our deaths into this damn pit!"

Inept at close quarters combat, he knows he must get to a place where he can use his spells without them being interrupted. The druid tries to use his size and current position to his advantage, while also preventing any of the hooded cultists from running back into the passage that they came from to warn any others of his groups arrival.

He grasps his spear with both hands and holds it out horizontally at arms length in front of him. He tries to push through in between the muddy wall of the cavern and the enemy. C3 Using his spear to keep them at bay, he tries to use the cultists pushing momentum to his advantage, attempting to aid them with their forward movement, he slips in behind them, blocking their retreat.

Let me know if you need certain rolls for this action. Or, go ahead and make them yourself if a delay here will hold up your next post. Thanks!

Seeing only three standing, Pelias tries to brain one with the flat of his sword again.

Subdue with long sword +1 (THAC0 18) [1d20+1] = 11+1 = 12, damage [1d8+1] = 8+1 = 9

Urdur know that it is folly to attempt to melee with these dread cultists, but his back is against the wall here. Rather than retreat, he lunges forward to attack the nearest cultist (C3) with his dagger.

To hit with dagger [1d20] = 20

BOOM! :D :D

Damage with dagger [1d4] = 2

"This one is for Mittens, you bastard!" he shouts in gnomish as he stabs the unfortunate cultist.

The Rushmoors, Gran March, Greyhawk
Day Ten. Early Afternoon. Tuesday, October 25th, 576 CY
Cloudy, damp, cold, foggy

Mouser and Telkis plummet down the sinkhole shaft and crash hard onto the muddy ledge below (-6hp and -1hp respectively). Still alive, they stagger to their feet (at 1).
Here too blossoms eerie phosphorescent fungi. Strange black weeds dangle from the ceiling.

Image

Twelve feet above them, a life and death battle rages on!

Hoom grabs hold of the knotted rope as Brevos slips and falls in the mud at the edge of the bottomless pit! The doom-laden ranger grimly pulls himself back to his feet.

The hooded cultists (C3, C5) are out of position to drive Pelias westward to the pit. They savagely strike at the paladin and the druid with their quarterstaves, blocking Bo's escape. Pelias' blessed shield turns away a hammering strike, but the grey druid is cracked hard across the jaw! (-6hp)

Another maniac (C7) slams into Hoom, pushing the elf right into the ravenous maw! Riding the rope, Hoom swings out over the pit, taking the surprised cultist with him! As the rope arc reaches it apex, Hoom lets go of the cultist and he plunges, flailing wildly, down into the sinkhole until he is swallowed up by the black shadows below, never to be seen again!

Pip of Hochoch braces Urdur and Ingrid to keep them from toppling backwards to their deaths.

Urdur steps forward and drives his dagger to the hilt into the shrouded face of a fierce marauder (C5). A dark red blotch grows from the grievous wound until it engulfs the front of the white hood and suddenly the cultist collapses to the ground, dead.

Grothnak and Pelias descend upon the last man standing (C3). Grothnak's overhead swing is fouled by the muddy stalactites of the tight channel. But Pelias delivers a fell handed blow. There is the sickening, wet crunch of splintering bone as the last enemy is thrown to the ground, broken and beaten.

This fight is over. But the desperate raid on the sinister forces that plague Briarsgate is only just beginning.

Pelias examines the bodies. He says nothing, but shakes his head at the number of dead.

Are they all dead except one?

He cuts off enough rope to bind the hands of any surviving cultist, and unmasks them all, living and dead, with some hesitation.

"It would be wise to charm at least one that remains alive. Knowledge of this place could be very useful. I will have to keep my distance, however. I cannot pretend to worship the blasphemous deity responsible for this pit."
