Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions l)
Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
Another quick question for clarity:
Avril and Bo were joining Telkis to leave via the shut, eastern door. Now that Telkis isn't opening that door, and is instead exiting through the north door, are you also?
Here's what I have so far:
Fulci, Ingrid could have retrieved the axe from Vodarte's body when she gave last rites. I envisioned him lying in state, in the horse stall, holding his holy axe, sorta like this:
That's Ingrid on the right.
Either way, Ingrid has the axe. Thanks.

Here's what I have so far:
- Avril: eastern door
Bo: eastern door
Grothnak: "any available door"
Hoom: north door
Ingrid: north door
Mouser: south door
Pelias: no door specified... "with the others"
Telkis: north door
- Avril: eastern door

Avril will continue with her plan on exiting via the eastern door; opening it herself if necessary.Inferno wrote:Another quick question for clarity:

Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
I had posted east door.
Horsing around [5d6] = 16
Without the horse I guess. Oops that should have been 4d6.

Your post had you leaving alongside Pelias, who is near the south door currently, and hasn't specified a door.Grognardsw wrote:I had posted east door.

I'll go west.........I mean east!
Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
Thanks.
Avril, Bo and Mouser: You'll find the east door is locked from the outside!
What do you plan to do?
Knock it down? Then, each PC attempting to do so, please roll 1d6 vs. Open Doors.
Something else? Then please let me know now.
Thanks.

Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
Well, I was hoping to save Bo's last two spells for Entangle to cover our escape but, at this rate we might be dead before we even get a chance to escape.
I guess I could try speaking with the horses to see if they can break through the side of the barn that isn't burning? That might take too long.
Otherwise, I have a potion of polymorph that I can use to turn myself into something large enough to crash through the non burning wall. (rhino maybe?) But my guess is that an action like that might bring the burning barn down on top of the rest of the group.
I'm open to any suggestions at this point.

Best I can tell we're screwed whatever we do, so might as well try whatever you've got.
Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
Rhino? You don't get that animal's abilities so pick something that will intimidate the attackers and cause them to flee.OGRE MAGE wrote: Otherwise, I have a potion of polymorph that I can use to turn myself into something large enough to crash through the non burning wall. Explanation/Description: When this spell is cast, the magic-user is able to assume the form of any creature - from as small as a wren to as large as a hippopotomus - and its form of locomotion as well. The spell does not give the other abilities (attack, magic, etc.), nor does it run the risk of changing personality and mentality. No "system shock" check is required. Thus, a magic-user changed to an owl could fly, but his or her vision would be human; a change to a black pudding would enable movement under doors or along halls and ceilings, but not the pudding's offensive or defensive capabilities. Naturally, the strength of the new form must be sufficient to allow normal movement. The spell caster can change his or her form as often as desired, the change requiring only 5 segments. Damage to the polymorphed form is computed as if it were inflicted upon the magic-user, but when the magic-user returns to his or her own form, from 1 to 12 (d12) points of damage are restored.
Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
I'd say that a rhino's size and ability to charge (and thus break a hole in the side of the barn) is part of its form and locomotion, though of course that's up to the DM to decide.

Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
I guess I was thinking more short term. Like, getting us out of the burning building?
I was thinking along the same lines as Zhym. It's not attacking, or using a magical ability, it's just smashing through a wall with its brute force and size.
As I said, I'm open for other suggestions.

OM: Polymorph gives you the rhino's form and movement, so I'll allow a charge that benefits from its massive scale.

Cleric Resist Fire and Remove Fear on the horse come to mind, but if you have two slots the Entangle and Hold seem better. Perhaps Ingrid rides the rhino out and casts Hold or Entangle, Hoom Sleep.

Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
What about those with axe-like weapons hacking a hole in the barn? Given how massive the attacks of the townfolk are, we'll probably need spells to help us in combat...
Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
I'm not sure that Grothnak's halberd is enough like an axe to be useful in chopping open doors. Besides, it would take longer to open a hole than would a charging rhino.
Re: Whispers in the Darkness (ooc and questions)
Ingrid has two level 2 spells slots, Remove Fear, Resist Fire, Hold Person are helpful.
Does the west wall have any opening, boarded-up windows or anything? Any weak spots we can exploit?

Grog: Hoom's spell for the day is already expended. Fyi everyone, at the bottom of each major DM post is your Status, including remaining spell slots.

Ale: Re: "axe-like weapons:" halberds might be unwieldy, but there is Vodarte's enchanted Battle Axe of Obad-Hai. Also, Telkis's magic morningstar, Cranach, could be good at "crashing," as Mouser put it.Inferno wrote: Hoom scans the walls for weakspots from which to escape, but his view is blocked by the horse stalls that shield the walls with wood and shadow....
