Great idea. But I'm afraid this spell falls under the restricted spell list from the Of Magic and Mysteries house rules.

I didn't list it there because it would have tipped you off to the fact that, yes, the villagers ARE charmed. Nice deduction, Grog.

The whole bodysnatchers/doppelgangers/shapeshifter/changeling thing in horror is scary and fun because of the uncertainty around who is evil and who isn't... and trying to figure out who can you trust. Being able to cast this spell will quickly identify who is "evil" and who isn't across all of Briarsgate, thereby instantly ending the central mystery and the fun (please click the above link for the lengthy rationale). Sorry.

So gamewise, this spell isn't in Ingrid's spell book/list. If you want to cast something else, or take another action, please do so. I'll try to post the next turn tomorrow afternoon or evening.

I even checked the home rules to see whether Detect Charm was restricted...

Of course, given the spirit of that rule, Detect Charm is obviously out of the question, even though it's not listed.

I know this was a joke but honestly, you haven't scratched the surface yet. If Briarsgate was a dungeon instead of a village, with rooms instead of houses, then you've only been inside three rooms so far.
