Session 8, Questions.

#1 Post by Rhourk »

After their ordeal in the "Valley of Life" and their harrowing encounter with the "Eyes of God" the party is left with more questions than answers. There are two locations left on Yara's map, and yet they are no closer to understanding the nature of the monumental spell he had woven. Through conversations with the animated skull of the ancient sorcerer Thulsa Doom, they gathered that all the sites are places of great power, tapped through various devices of power to channel that magical energy somewhere? The entire conjuration was covered by a cloaking spell that dissolved after the destruction of Yara's tower in Zamora. And all that hang's on how far they can trust the ancient animated skull of a sorcerer once bent on the subjugation of all humanity.

Without any good information for Arshak, and not really willing to bring the heart of Ahriman into the presence of Zinthos, the party decides to head to the farther away of the last two locations. The map shows a spot in the "Wild Mountains", just east of Brythunia. Brythunia is an agrarian nation of Horse-lords barely settled into city states. They are a traditional enemy of Zamora, but currently are not in open conflict with them. Brythunia's impressive mounted troops usually allow them to defeat the Zamorian army in any field battle, but Zamora's much greater numbers and supply lines usually stop the Brythunian advances short of any noteworthy victories. It is a simple land of horses, sheep and small farms.

Because of this, the party opts to travel directly through Nemedia, cultural jewel of Hyboria, on their way. They will pass through the capitol of Belverus on they way, as great a city as there is in the world, to resupply, shop, study, etc.

####Just let me know any major stops that you intend to make. Small resupplies, food, rope, arrows whatever, you can assume you find easy enough. There are Thieves guild contacts here, and Galius has tremendous merchant contacts here, and a magical mentor. So take 30% off book prices for mundane gear.############

Lycia spends the first hour or two in quiet meditation in an attempt at communion with the Great Mother, then she begins herself a journal, of sorts, in the back of her Book of Shadows (the Patron-supplied book she records the ritual-only spells for her to cast, such as Identify) where she begins recording the whispers of her patron. The first of which, "The death of the future takes root in the past", she keeps to herself... petitioning the entity who watches over her for it's meaning and her direction.
If answered, she will share this information with the party. If her prayers go unanswered, she will keep this to herself for the time being.

After a period of time, she does devote herself to the ritual spellcasting of identification on the recently obtained items. (as noted on the Misc Sheets)

Staff of Healing
Wielder: Aurora
Only usable by Clerics, Bards, or Druids
Damage: 1d6/8(b)
10 charges max – regens d6 +4 charges a day
Cure wounds 1 charge per spell level up to 4th
Lesser restoration 4 charges
Mass cure wounds 5 charges
Expending the last charge can break the staff. Roll a d20, on a 1 it destabilizes and vanishes forever

Sentinel Shield
Wielder: Crazy Wolf
Appearance: Metallic shield with realistic eye painted on the front
History: Discovered next to a dead body outside the Temple of Death, once hidden by Yara
Grants advantage on all Perception checks
Grants advantage on Initiative rolls

Vis has Lycia be his voice for bartering. He sells his nunchuku at one smithy then visits another to purchase a new one since his original one was obviously faulty when it slipped out of his hand in one of the previous fights.... and he can't have that...
Lycia also seeks out those learned in the ways of magic, seeking one or two helpful spells (anything that can be cast as a ritual) to add to her tomb.

Lycia's eyes close and she finds herself among the stars. She feels the presence of the Great Mother and soon feels the warmth of a thousand stars surround her. A great voice from everywhere fills her mind, and pours back out of her own mouth. "You are surrounded on all sides by the dark. It moves with you constantly, though I cannot pierce it. Your world is invaded by darkness, a bridge to the Abyss, it's future lies tortured and burning, a perfect nest for the death of all things that are or ever were to be. There is a great Nexus ahead, a Prime Conjoining of all universes in one. Your answers will be there. Zelata, knows the way, and you will know the time. But first, beware the darkness that I cannot pierce, it is with you, always..."

Galius, after listening, assumes the darkness that is always with Lycia is V!!!!!

Side note:

The magic item sheet has V wearing the frozen gauntlet, and Crazy Wolf wielding the burning longsword, are those accurate, and who is holding the Heart of Ahriman, and how? Just need to clarify for no particular reason.
