Old Bones.

#1 Post by Rhourk »

The sailor quietly scans the graveyard and the ruins on the hill above it. He doesn't know if he'll be able to detect the shadow creatures at night, or what worse may lurk in this area so infused with necromancy, but the party won't risk staying the night, so he searches. The moon peeks out from the clouds for the briefest moment, and silver light plays across the landscape. Deep pools of black roll back, and ominous shapes clarify into trees, rocks and one startled deer. As quickly as it appeared, the moon vanishes again. The sailor heads back.

The party moves quickly to the horse and wagon. The second encounter with the shadow's can't be coincidental, and they are weary of a third. The horse is eager to leave this place behind as well. Soon they have a mile behind them, and they breath easier. Another and they actually relax enough to speak to one another. The theme is common enough, "what have we gotten ourselves into this time?"

They discuss the events of the last few weeks, almost forgetting the ancient sorcerer among them in his stillness. They are unsure if he is some phantom of the past, nothing more than an echo of a life long ended, or indeed the soul of the most fearsome sorcerer of the Thurian Age, somehow still bound to his bones for countless centuries. Galius and Lycia spin theory after theory, each becoming more grand than the others. It becomes apparent to the others that they are not so much drawing on their mystic knowledge as trying to "one up" each other. The conversation quickly becomes tiresome, and even the skeleton, unmoved for hours, appears to nod off.

Aurora turns the conversation back to the task at hand. The next area is on the coast of Shem. A southern kingdom bounded on the west by the Western Ocean, on the east by the Eastern Desert, and on the south by Stygia. Traveling through Shem should be easy enough. The Kingdom is dominated by fertile grasslands and farms. The party will pass close to the city of Kyros, home of the greatest Vinyards in the Western World, a beautiful and civilized city, surrounded by the estates of very wealthy wine merchants and the nobility. And also, close to Asgalun, a city sate now fallen to corruption and decay, home to pirates and smugglers.

After such a deep conversation, Lycia secludes herself in the back of the wagon to attempt ritual spellcastings of Identify on the found items.

"This flaming long sword we wrestled from the enemies aflame is quite something. Currently, it will sear with every swing... but I sense that it could grow in power as it's wielder grows in experience wielding it. We should most definitely re-examine it periodically!

These four malachite with red veins running through them are just radiating magic. Interesting. If my senses don't deceive me, I believe we can use these as thrown weapons like solid fireballs hurled at our enemies...
"
Flaming Longsword: normal 1d8/10(s) of a longsword, but does 1d6 additional fire
Gems: Throw (assuming ranged spell attack?) for 2d6 fire in a 10' radius
