Chapter 3: La Muerta Espara

Bruno the thief
Image
finds the spikes come out of their holes with a sturdy pull and twist. He spends some time clearing the area. Kitchi the ranger then joins Bruno at the bottom. The thief-acrobat turns his attention to the door. He observes no traps. He applies his picks and deft fingers to unlock the door.

Inside is a disturbing sight:

Calto the Druid:

Standing at the rim of the pit in anticipation, Calto watches as the nimble gnome successfully picks the lock on the door. He then anxiously calls down to his companion, "Bruno, what is it that you see?"

The little burglar-acrobat recoils somewhat and shouts up to his comrades, describing the scene to those above.
Can he see any other exits in the room?

Siavel shudders at the gnomes description.

A room full of skulls and bones? How lovely.

Does the room continue on or are there other doors?

The elven wizard contemplates eating another eyeball from his sack, just to see what happens.

A torch is handed down for Bruno and Kitchi to better see by, for infravision reveals only the most basic outline in the cold room. They peer more carefully into the chamber of bones. It has no other exits. It is roughly circular and 30' in diameter. They see scratch marks along the floor from the doorway into the first 10' that are indicative of something being dragged in. Closer inspection reveals dark stains in the area.

'Blade Rain' shifts the unconscious form of his companion on his shoulder and does his best to keep an alert eye and ear out as his companions examine the room full of skulls for items of interest, doors, etc.

Kitchi- Watches the room for any movement or noises. I don't think we should enter this room. It looks like this room may contain something evil.

If he finds no traps the gnome will nod in agreement. "Perhaps a test," he says indicating he will reach in, lift a skull and chuck it into the centre of the room, ready to slam the door if horrors erupt.

Grindhelm the Dwarf

The ginger warrior looks about the room, curious as to what all the bones are about. "Hey... you think there are more magic doo-dads going on in here? The dark and twisted kind, perhaps?" he inspects the stonework, attempting to find anything that would allow for more information

Bruno steps on, over and around bones as he searches for traps. He finds none but realizes there is a 10' diameter depression in the middle of the floor. The bones approaching that area are soft.

The gnome pauses, stands stock still, listens... is that the faintest of sucking sounds from the middle?

The gnome sees it break through the pile...

It rises from the middle of the chamber as Bruno starts to scamper back.

At the pit doorway, Kitchi the ranger also sees the thing.
