That's pretty nifty, I hadn't seen that poster. The one they're showing here (apparently the 'international poster') looks like it could've been inspired by the Star Trek VI poster art, but it isn't a direct copy.

That's a pretty nice poster, until you scroll down enough to see the motorcycle, and then it's goofy as hell.

Yeah… it seems like ever since Mission Impossible 2 in 2000, studio suits think 'giving it a Hollywood makeover' means marketing the movie around the protagonist's cocky stunts on a motorcycle and/or muscle car.

I'm neither here nor there when it comes to the new movies, but the extended trailer for Beyond seemed pretty stale to me. I felt like I had already seen all of about a decade ago, when explosive techno-action movies were finally starting to jump shark and give way to superheroes and gritty Rambo-mercs.

But then, Independence Day just got a sequel, Pacific Rim isn't that old; in hindsight maybe the 90s wave of high-budget, explosive sci-fi hasn't ever actually slowed at all.

The current star trek movie franchise is lost. They don't know what they want to be, or who they want to appeal to.

Maybe the franchise will get more viewers when they come out the Tribble GO app.

That's funny. It makes me think a D&D Go app would be a gamer hit, going through hunting for monsters and rolling online dice to defeat it (or be attacked yourself.) Throw in traps and treasure, etc. Add benefits for playing in a group as a party...

Grogs, you need to get on the horn with WotC right away.

Of course, whereas Pokemon GO has folks walking miles and miles to find their next catch, OSR D&D GO would have people creeping along at a pace of a foot a minute, checking for traps, secret doors, and undetected slopings of the hallway.

What a great idea. I got bored with Pokémon Go after a couple of hours, but I would play a dungeon crawler game that had D&D mechanics in it. That sounds fun. A player could set up an item shop at his house and have all manner of vagrants loitering outside to pick up adventuring gear.

I'd like to see a wargame app that mixes something like Pokémon Go and Risk, or a resource-gathering RTS like WarCraft. The war progresses in real time on the map, and the players build facilities in strategic locations, issue orders to nearby battalions, get notifications when they've stumbled upon enemy troops, and so on.

Hi,
I'm going out of town for two weeks, I don't expect to get online. I'll be back on 8/22.

Please NPC my character if I'm holding things up. Nadix will rush up to the bridge as fast as his three legs will carry him, to help out in the battle. Thanks.

Have a good fortnight, everyone.

By the way, can everyone seen the images in the game thread? Some players are having trouble seeing images in another game of mine, and I'm wondering if it has something to do with linking to images that in private threads.

Does the crew get drunk and make heartfelt confessions to one another?

Just about finished reading this.

It's got high points and low points. I definitely enjoyed the first half of the book the most, which covers Kirk's life up to the point of receiving command of the Enterprise. After that it mostly just covers the big episodes and movies, usually to allow Kirk to show regret through hindsight. All of the details and connections are very well constructed. Overall a fun read.

Yes it has a nostalgic vinyl crackle and the voices aren't the actors, but it was still a fun listen. Kirk and Spock are doing negotiating with a planet to for Federation orbiting rights, in opposition to Klingons negotiating, and... wait, I'm sure there's a better summary online... yes, here: http://www.danhausertrek.com/Records/Story_2.html
