rredmond wrote:FYI all, I have some RL stuff going on, which is why I've been absent. My apologies. My job is laying me off come 6/30, so I've been working to set things up so they don't fall apart when I leave, as well as trying to find a new job. Ah, if it were only my wife and me, but we have four young daughters, so.... pouding the pavement I go!
As for standing orders, the Engineering dept will continue their search for the source, reporting to me any progress. As well as continue to figure out ways to protect the ship and not allow the drain to occur

Gareb is searching and attempting to pinpoint the source of the drain as well on the ride down.
Once down he gets his phaser and science stuff (tricorder I'm assuming) ready to disembark.
Sorry to hear about the job. Getting laid off when it's just you and a spouse is hard enough, but with four kids to take care of… yikes. Hope you can find your new job without too much trouble.

Everyone, my apologies for being silent. I was on a stay-cation last week to spend time with my daughter and new-born granddaughter. I figured I would be able to post regularly but my wife had other plans for us. I'm back to work and a regular posting schedule.

Wow, how cool! I am enjoying being a daddy of four little girls so much - daughter and granddaughter, you must've been pride-bustin'! :)

Anyway, my apologies as well. Work is a bit settled, it's going well, and I'm slowly working my way back into the swing of things here. I'll get there though eventually. Thanks for your patience everyone!

Yes, I am very happy. I just wish she had been more careful. She's only 19 but the baby is a blessing and you can not plan out blessings. She is both my wife's an my first grandchild. I have an older step-son whom I thought would be the first one to have children and a younger son.

My parents got their first grandchildren in a similar way when my brother had them quite young. It was certainly unexpected, but they've grown up to be great kids.

I'll be away from Saturday the 4th to Saturday the 11th, and probably won't be able to post before I get back.

In the meantime, let's hear from our corporate sponsors! NBC's Star Trek is brought to you by RCA Victor, Polaroid, Pepsi Cola, and fast-acting Geritol.

For no particular reason I've trawled Youtube and thrown together a small 9-10 minute playlist for us to enjoy, featuring commercials that were shown on Star Trek's original run, and the promo for the returning 1968 season: Star Trek Commercial Break.

Definitely check out the video called 'NBC Week 1967'. Man, what a line-up!

These are great. I want to be a Viceroy man and smoke while laying pipe. Just think if you combine that with Aqua Velvet.

Look what I found at my local used book store. No sure if it's the same system as the one we are playing.

No; that's a module by FASA for a Star Trek RPG they made in the 80s…..I have a few of their products; but I've never played the system. The skills are all percentile scores….which I'm not the biggest fan of; but some of the products they produced were pretty cool. I always really liked their idea of "The Triangle"; basically a sector of space that lies at the juncture of the neutral zones between the Klingons, the Federation and the Romulans…..so the area was kind of a neutral/carved up mini-war/crime/corporation exploitation area with all kinds of races (Humans, Romulans, Klingons, Orions, etc.); and various factions such as groups that had launched and failed at coup attempts in the various nations, etc.

Me too. Cold war Berlin in space. Or Casablanca.
Nice find, Dads!

Hey, nice find! I've got several FASA Trek stuff, but not that module.

The FASA game was the Star Trek RPG after this one, and actually was the first one to get any amount of decent support (and it got a whole lot of it). It's still my favourite Star Trek RPG, being the best at incorporating all of the different things you'd want to do with Star Trek: the core book is designed around landing party adventures, the various sourcebooks cover material for running different kinds of campaigns (political, military, exploration, rogue trading), and their starship miniatures wargame was designed as an add-on to the RPG, so you can run detailed bridge crew scenarios.

A friend of mine had a FASA Star Trek club in college back in the 90s, where they would split up into different bridge crews with 4-7 players per bridge, one as the captain and the rest running the different bridge consoles, in separate corners of the hall, with runners going back and forth to relay messages and update the map in the middle. I'd love to do something like that someday.

Are you sure? It looked like the correct action for a red shirt at this particular moment. Meet alien, red shirt is overly aggressive, red shirt dies. It fits the red shirt's M.O.
Plus it will give me the chance to finally give the "He's dead, Captain" line.

I don't think he'd break a direct order the captain gave.
