Sounds great, the audio sample got me hooked. Written by Alan Dean Foster, as well.

Rain check: I have to wrap up editing the last of my dissertation and will be putting my GMed games on hold until next Friday (the 2nd).

Live long and prosper.

On this day in 1966 it all began with the first episode. Lots of media coverage out there.

Happy birthday to the show that started it all.

Take some time out today and watch The Man Trap, The Cage or Where No Man Has Gone Before.

Ensigns Barry and Ensign Costello are tossed from their chairs, shielding their eyes from the burning heat. Those who quickly rush to their aid find their faces burnt and lifeless, dead before they hit the ground.
Alright, a two-for-one!

Star,
What's standard procedure for this emergency, please? Does the Captain take Navigation until help can get up here?

If yes, should Nadix take the helm? He has none of the skills you listed. Is he better than an empty chair?

Or is someone else on the bridge designated to take the helm in this situation?

Thanks.

Hey,
I'm travelling for work this coming week and don't expect to get online. I'll be back by October 3rd.

Please NPC my character if I'm slowing things down. Nadix will help out in whatever way he can, as per my above OOC post.

Thanks. Have a great week, everyone.

Nadix would naturally run to the helm, and the Captain would take Navigation. De Mattio would stay at the science station since she's already there. The Captain will order up replacements. As usually happens in the show, the nearest unoccupied crew would probably rush to fill an empty bridge station until an NPC replacement can be called up.

As officers you've all received basic training and have plenty of experience being rotated through various departments as ensigns and lieutenants, so you can operate any station moderately well even without the necessary skill. "Specialist" tasks might be more difficult if you are operating across departments and without the appropriate skill (3d6 checks become 4d6 checks).*

*The precedent for this is the often unexplained casting changes in TOS. In the early episodes Lieutenant Sulu showed up variously in blue as head of astrophysics, in gold as chief helmsman, and in blue again in the botany lab (although it was never established whether he was a botany officer or just there for fun).

MeTV is now running Star Trek The Animated Series on weekends.

With the original voice cast, minus Chekov, and writers like David Gerrold, D.C. Fontana and Larry Niven, it's a hint at what season 4 could have been like.

Plus, those wonderful Edosians! :D

The Animated Series is overlooked. Classic Filmation drawing, plus some great scripts and incidental music.

I always catch MeTV whenever we're back in the U.S. I'm glad there's a channel to fill the gap left by Nick at Nite and the Sci-Fi Channel after they abandoned their original formats.

I happened to recently visit my alma mater B.U. where at their special collections library they collect 20th century literary, acting and popular culture figures' papers. Leonard Nimoy's papers reside there and they had an exhibit...

What a great exhibit. I hadn't realized Nimoy did a stint at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Thanks for the heads up, DA. I've just signed up for the playtest on the U.S.S. Lexington (TOS era).

Thanks for being patient, everyone. Just got back from my trip, which has been complicated at either end with pets chewing through the internet cables and dealing with hospital visits for the sick wife. Things have slowed down now, and I should be updating everything by tomorrow.
